About Us
Edison Nation is the leading online community and resource dedicated to inventors.
Edison Nation is brought to you by the same people who created
Everyday Edisons, the invention television series that airs on PBS stations nationwide.
How it all Started
Every year, the Everyday Edisons team holds casting calls around the country in search of the most innovative ideas. We see thousands of great inventions every year (we’re currently holding casting calls for Season 3). Those who are selected for the show will see their ideas taken from whatever stage of development they are in to the store shelf. The inventor pays nothing to participate but is rewarded personally and financially based on the success of their product.
Unfortunately, we can only select around a dozen inventions each season to take to market as part of the show. For every product that we select for the show, there are hundreds that were not selected. It is not uncommon to find a product that is almost certainly a home run but just isn’t right for the show. Maybe it’s in an industry that our television viewing audience isn’t interested in. Maybe our team of engineers isn’t experienced enough in a particular field to do it justice… or maybe we just can’t develop the product in a single season. Whatever the reason, turning down an idea is the hardest part of the process – for both us and the inventor. We developed Edison Nation with those inventors in mind.

Your Product Development Journey Made Easier
Edison Nation is a platform that enables inventors to keep pushing forward with their inventions. Inventors helping inventors – that’s what it’s all about. The inventor community is extremely helpful. Most inventors realize they need to band together for support and to make sure they don’t fall for the common traps in the product development process. That’s where Edison Nation fits in.
Inventors Helping Inventors
Fellow Edison Nation inventors can help you identify resources and answer questions about your product development process such as:
- I’ve got an idea, what do I do now?
- Who can help me with market research?
- Where can I find a reliable engineer or industrial designer?
- Who can help me make a prototype?
- Should I manufacture my product in the U.S. or overseas?
- Who can help me with a logo, brand identity and packaging?
- What reputable patent attorneys and agents are in my area?
- Who can help me build a Web site for my product?
- Where is the nearest UIA-accredited Inventor Network Group?
- What key innovation events are coming up?
- How can I commercialize my product once it’s manufactured?
- How can I get in front of a particular retailer with an idea?
Exclusive Educational Content
We are always creating and adding new educational content to Edison Nation. We’re especially excited about our latest feature, Learn from the Pros, which features exclusive one-on-one video interviews with worldwide leaders in innovation. Just a few of our latest interviews include:
- Jeff Bezos, Founder & CEO of Amazon.com
- James Dyson, Founder & CEO of Dyson, Inc.
- John Doll, Commissioner for Patents of the USPTO
- Doug Hall, Founder of Eureka Ranch
- Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, Founder of the Innovation America Foundation
Product & Idea Commercialization Opportunities
The most difficult part of being an inventor is usually finding a path to actually making money with your invention. We have developed two programs to help you commercialize your ideas.
The first is appropriately called “Commercialize My Product” and it is for inventors who are in the late stage of development with a factory-quality prototype. This feature allows you to submit your product to Edison Nation for commercialization consideration. If you are selected, we invest all of the financial and expert resources to get your product into the market. In exchange, you enter into an agreement that far exceeds the national average.
Is your idea still just a sketch on a napkin? Soon, we will accept ideas at all levels of development for an upcoming feature currently code-named “Innovation Station.” In this feature, you will be able to respond to calls for innovation from major retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond, The Sharper Image, PetSmart, Staples and others. If your idea is selected for commercialization, you will enter into an agreement under which payments can far exceed the national average.
Weekly Site Updates (We Believe in Innovation, Too)
We update Edison Nation with improvements and new site features weekly (usually multiple times per week) so there’s always something new in store for you.
