Don't give up....Cowbells and Pumpkins :)

Since joining Edison Nation, I have been very fortunate…I have been on the receiving end of advice from many great inventors who post in the forums. The people here are a wealth of information, motivation, and education… enter just about any subject in the search box and start reading….

Anyway, I thought it may be a good time to share my (abbreviated) story in hopes that someone out there, with a similar circumstance, someone ready to quit, to throw in the towel….someone who is beginning to wonder if their ideas REALLY have any potential……someone beginnning to question their sanity….will read this and realize they are not alone….that this process is filled with potholes and setbacks and frustrations, but also brings the potential for great success…..do not quit….keep on submitting to the searches and if you see a red “x” anywhere in the process, consider ways to tweak it, revise it…..and submit it again…..if you believe in it…do not give up…..

You are only EVER one set of eyes away from your idea going from sketch to shelf…..transforming you from
“goofy inventor with files full of worthless ideas”
to
“paid inventor with files full of quarterly check stubs”

Here is my story…..you won’t find any fusion generators here….no nano-tech breakthroughs….but you will find a guy who learned a lesson or two…

And by the way, I could use your help! Please let me know if you have any ideas :)

Thank you,
http://pumpkinidea.blogspot.com/

I am also a Halloween kid (well, born within a few days, so I always claimed it!) – and I love your idea. I told my husband all about this and we will be on the lookout. Great way to hang in there and reach out to the right people who can help you make this a reality.

Go Cowbell!!!

Greg, it was a pleasure working with you on this project and see it end successfully. You kept going when a lot of other Inventors would have quit and given up. You certainly learned a lot goingthrough the process and they seemed to throw every obstacle you could think of in front of us, but you were willing to be flexible and open to my suggestions, no matter how off the wall they may have sounded atthe time.
I hate it took so long, but that part is behind you now and you can look forward to seeing your product on store shelves. Getting a check isn’t to bad either. LOL

The product is great Greg. I like the process as well if not better. A lot of people think the inventing process is easy. That you didn’t give up is the answer to me.

The tucking your ego and taking an out of the box try again and again until you suceeded is what it takes in my opinion. It took 2 full years for one of my products to be accepted in test store markets and now I am going to several companies with it. I am sure there will be even more changes to come. I am looking forward to getting an agreement, I will be okay with EN or a private company taking it.

Very cool Greg!

I remember only a few months ago you suggested you had something potentially big in the works…and this is pretty good turnaround! It is very professionally put together. I can’t wait to watch it “grow up”!

…like Greg B. pointed out this is EN bonus material! And Greg B., one other inventor with a slightly similar story (moving forward independently with an EN idea) is Jason. He has the 2 Spencers items.

Wowee…We always need lots of “cowbell” around here at EN, Greg!!! Great inspirational stories like this!

Love how this idea all worked out! Just ordered some of those scratch-thingies for my daughter (from that Scholastic mag they send home from school). Loved doing these when I was young and she has never seen them!

Hope to see/buy your product in Walgreen’s, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. this Halloween for sure!! Our family has done those carvings in the past, and it was always the very intricate ones that our kids chose for us to do…Hours of work and sore fingers!! This will be so cool and a bit easier!! (Boy, my daughter would love an Angry Birds set!? Better not add the slingshots, though! hehe)

Huge Congrats to you!!! Keep On Inventing!!!

Greg!!
Yours is a quintessential E.N. story. You are what makes E.N. real to me. You are the one that got away and yet you are extolling their virtues and sharing your extra-E.N. story on their forum. It’s a win win win win…
Edison Nation is the only inventor-centric environment I’ve stumbled upon and, the proof is in the fact that you are here sharing this with us in the wake of an R8. Your gain is our gain.
Way to go!

Great Idea Greg! and inspiring story.
Eric, EN didn’t turn it down. G7 means they liked it and presented it. R8 means the searching company turned it down.

Hey neighbor! A big fat triple AWESOME is in order here! Way to go bro! It’s this type of re-enforcement that keeps the dream alive! This as well has to have a few folks at EN thinking maybe we shouldn’t have let this one slip away! Brilliant!

Congratulations Greg, what a lovely family you have, they must be so proud of you. The video is not only so well done but the music is over the top perfect . You did a superb jun putting it all together and your " Little Stars" were adorable and precious. Hope they weren’t charging you full Actors Guild wages haha!

Your product and idea is just awesome. I think you hit the Pumpkin on the Head and will have everybody who see’s it saying " Why Didn’t I Think of It " ……. Yes, I agree you addressed the most dreaded safety concerns parents have and made something so fun even that much better with a personal, creative and versatile twist. I could actually see a darling picture of the kids dressed up in their Halloween’s best pictured on the front of one of your pumpkins .. maybe a way to download special photo’s ?? .. Love the "Scratch off " concept could there possibly be Pumpkin Spice scent added or perhaps a secret ghoulish concoction to create some Sniffing fun !!

Thank you so much for sharing your story Greg … it is not only inspirational and brings it on home as we’re all family here but also
wonderful to hear about each others journeys on and off the forum as well.. By sharing all aspects including the challenges and the successes it makes it real and our bond even tighter …

Make sure to keep us all in the loop …. can’t wait to hear more …

Greg,

Great idea! Thanks so much for sharing your story. One of the details I would love to hear is how you made your initial contact with the company and what your conversation was like. So happy for you and can’t wait to see them in stores!

Great idea. I’m now wondering if you could make something like pumpkin TV. Maybe some kind of LCD panel you stick in the hole. Don’t know, something cheaper maybe. Nevermind.
