EN tweaking the design of a submission

I read that EN can tweak the design of a submission in Stage 4. Do they share these designs with the submitter? Can the submitter view it in the attachment/notes?

Since I preach about the search button all the time, I feel much better. Thanks for pointing it out, Margaret, and for reporting it.

Thanks Matt!

That sorting is wonderful.

Search should be working again. As a bonus, the results should also now display with the most recent matches on top so you don’t have to scroll to the far end of a search that returns several pages of results.

John, I think that is brilliant! Of course, I have had one vodka on the rocks so my judgement might be a little ‘off’.

BUT, getting the newbies to find it and then use it might be a challenge unless it is handled like the threads which are locked into the top of the list of forums. (Gee, that was pretty succinct for someone with a buzzzzz….)

JM .02 here but there are 2 or 3 official topics “locked” to the top of the first page in the forums. What if one was started and “locked” on the first page with a title that encourages newbies to ask questions there. We, as the community, can look and see when things are posted and if we feel we can help we give them our 2 cents. Maybe title it " Newbies, for quickest response post questions here" IDK, maybe that would help a little…

I just sent them a tech support request to bring it to their attention.

Wow! Margaret, I also got 40 pages and the first page and last page show msgs. from a year ago. Very strange. I still believe in searching for topics but I now understand how a newbie might have problems: just wish they wouldn’t start a new thread for every little comment – maybe save up their questions and start a thread about questions……….

I hope that EN will get it fixed………..

The search button glitch seems to have started around the time EN was reconfiguring after the spam attacks… before that you could search AND find post that were just made. Who knows, but it would be a nice feature to have back.

I agree the search option has been helpful and encourage newbies to use it to ward off redundancy, but also agree it needs to be improved in it’s sorting capabilities. With the remarkable growth of the audience at En site, there appears to be a need for more user information at one’s aka newbie’s fingertips thus eliminating excessive new topics and education more simple and inviting. Growing pains in a house of dreams.

EN friends, we need some inovation to the high 5 boards…AKA Sharing & learning central!

And this too will change, in time, tic toc.

Hmmm..FAQ……..from forums history…..weekly update?

Newbies are good…….they help open more doors! Just need to dry them behind the ears! LOL!

Late, I ramble…nite all.

Julie,

This afternoon I typed in “Jarden.” One would think that the two recent topics with “Jarden” in the title would come up. But they didn’t even show up at all. Three posts, two from 2 years ago, where “Jarden” was mentioned came up. One would think the most recent mentions would be at the top of the results. Doesn’t make sense to me. I rarely have success with the search even when using 2 or 3 key words. I sometimes wonder if there is a glitch. I believe it has worked better in the past.

I just typed in my name. The first page of results was a mix of posts from 2 to 3 years ago. The last page (40) showed posts from on year ago. So if I were looking for something fairly recent, I may have to look through 40 pages to find it?? The more I think about it, he more I’m thinking something may be messed up with the search feature.

The secret to using the search button is to pick the one or two words about the topic you are interested in – maybe even three words. If you’re trying to find something you wrote but don’t remember where, then type in your name and all your posts will appear.

Anant,

I feel your pain about the search button. I, for one, don’t find it very useful. Perhaps I’m doing it wrong, but if you don’t have the exact key words, you end up with whatever. And even when you do have the exact key words, often have to scroll through too many pages to get to the right thread.

I think I can paraphrase a former response… if EN can do a little something to help it get to presentation, they might. But it is a rare occurrence. Once an idea is selected and moves in to development, like Betsy’s Eggies, then EN develops it how they see fit. Generally, the inventor is not involved in the process.

Hi Anant,
I found watching back episodes of Everyday Edisons pretty insightful on their core approach to things. I’d also like to mention, that for myself, I like seeing all sorts of questions posted. For myself sometimes it gives me info I don’t think about wondering myself. Also, like breaking the ice in a party or such never hurts to ask casual questions and get dialogue.

I’ve tried five or six times to locate threads I’ve read before using specific phrases I knew were in them and had unsuccessful search results. Not the end-all beat-all tool compared to having friendly conversation and making yourself at home.

No offense to y’all with the little green button response, but I see things differently.

Cheers

When you go to Contact Us and can’t find the answer in the FAQ’s, fill out the form asking the question you need answered: they may not answer for a few days but they will answer.

I can kind of answer your inquiry: EN tweaked Betsy’s submission and the Eggies were created. I believe that if EN runs with it, and it needs tweaking, they will keep the original inventor informed but not involved: maybe Betsy can verify this. I think this also answers your question about viewing attachments / notes.

Thanks, Julie! I have gone through all FAQs I could find. The FAQ’s are for very basic questions. They should probably keep updating the FAQ’a and introduce a more advanced FAQ kind of a think.
I understand that this would probably have been discussed be4, but there are tons of threads, and it is not possible for me to look at every thread. But yes, I’ll probably start searching be4 posting a question. That should me find answers to some at least.
Are they quick in responding through “Contact Us”?

I think that you need to do some homework before you continue starting new threads to ask questions. I say this in all kindness because we have all been through being a newbie. That little green search button in the upper right corner of every thread is a great source. Also, at the very top, in the black portion of the page, you can click on ‘Contact Us’ and ask questions and read FAQ’s.

Good luck….

No, they don’t share that info. Also, it is my understanding that it is a very rare occurrence.
