I just spent a pretty fair amount of time developing a concept for the Bandai contest. This is work I would normally charge a fair amount of money to do, instead I went ahead and paid $25 for the privilege to show them my work. Now I understand that by charging a submission fee they’re keeping the submissions to serious entries only, but do they really have to charge so much? How about $5 or $10?

Thank you Frank, What you do is not the easiest thing either. I’m sure I could do it after an (adjustment period) but by no means would I say it would have no impact or difficulty at first as a regular job. I think people in your field are very under appreciated. I have a person living near me who is a funeral director, I told her I respected what she did and thanked her for it. Your contribution to society is of no less value than any other field. Props to you amigo. And in all honesty given what you do, your the kind of guy I would trust more than most in a fox hole. |

Ha…$25.00…that won’t even fill my gas tank. Gas in my town hit $4.18 a gallon. By this summer it will probably be close to $6.00 a gallon. I go to the store and spend $50.00 and come out with a bag the size of a napkin holder. I buy boxes and tubes and cans of stuff that are smaller in size and yet still cost the same if not more than what it was. I’ll live on the edge and throw $25.00 here for someone to look at my idea. It can’t be any worse than what is already happening around me and to me. LOL. Besides, it gives me pleasure to be here with all of you, and that alone is is worth the price of admission. Kevin :) |

Frank, I love your analogy about how Steve looks like he missed the flower stand closet and walked into the mortician’s prep room instead! Has anybody recognized that Steve is probably long gone? |

I think thats what they want you to do, spend some time and research to develope your idea I believe the cost is right and you did agree to pay the amount in the beginning . I have spent alot of time and money in my idea also . I know its original and will sell but I got a R4 yesterday in one search that just means it didnt work for that search im still G3 in 2 other searches with the same idea though. I am already prepared to go to bank and persue my idea even if they red X in other two searches . The cost to market and pitch your product is alot of time and money . $ 25 is a very small investment if you think its the right idea . Just sayin |

Steve your all upset about the 25 bucks. Just think you could have saved 15 bucks if they charged 10 bucks. Did you get a red X? Or are your seriously upset about paying 25 bucks later when you were perfectly willing to pay 25 bucks to start with? Why is this a problem now and it was not a problem when YOU decided to spend YOUR money? Yep I think your bitter about something else and this is sort of like some venting cry for help. Tell me how you feel about it. Maybe you go into to the gas station and yell at the cashier when you get done filling up the car with gas you decided to buy. I mean seriously, is the price of gas fair when you choose to pay it? |

Funny, reading the original post, I’ve never thought of the product searches as contests. I think I would see it all through a different shading if I thought of them that way. |

I have only been here a little while but have already had one of my ideas looked at. This may not seem like much to maost but it is a milestone for me. All these years I have had stuff floating around in my head and now someone actualy wants to see them. Even at twice the price I would be happy. |

i think the 20 dollars is more than fair,,,,i just developed an idea for Irwin tools, the prototype mockup cost me 10 dollars and 20 minutes to put together,,,,then it was submitted for 20 bucks,,reviewed extensively using many man hours I am sure and since going G7 two people got on a plane to fly to another location to present and promote my idea to a manufacturer,,,,for 20 bucks!!!… |

So you normally do product presentations? If so, then you should be able to breeze through this. All En is doing is looking at it and promising to devote a small amount of time to review the viability. You will still have the opportunity to show it to other companies that may never take any time to look at it. For the price of a large pizza, you are getting an opportunity to share the profit, in a potentially great product, and take absolutely no risk beyond the $25. Potential rewards could be greater going solo, but there is also a huge risk and a huge learning curve that you must endure to succeed even if you have a great idea. |

I like the idea of all the $25s (or $20s) adding up to create the opportunity for Edison Nation to exist, and therefore for a selection of our best ideas to be turned into commercial products. |

Hi Steve, I personally think this is beyond fair. You can’t even go to a nice restaurant for a meal for that amount. |

Hi Steve, $25 is close to free in my book. It is more than fair because we can choose not to submit. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am guessing you are coming over from Quirky. Most topics of this nature are started by people trying to compare the two. EN and Quirky are completely different. I prefer the protected model of EN vs the public disclosure model over there. If you find yourself submitting more to EN, I high recommend the Insider Membership. Good luck with Bandai. I am now going to the sidelines with Chappy. |

hmmm… this will get interesting… i am on the sidelines for this conversation though… become a member then it is only $20. This price is extremely fair and affordable. Have you ever tried to submit to an angel investor or to any other submission company before or is EN the first place that you came to? No, really I am on the sidelines… |
