hmmm… that’s an interesting thought… appreciate the vote of confidence… since it’s handoff to engineers… dang… this search could get really expensive. I thought I would skate by on just giving him twelve or thirteen buttons.

Greg, a million buttons is code for touch screen, if anybody can do it, you can!

LOL, my favorite on my list is from my five year old. I have to modify it a bit, because I’m not sure how to fit a million buttons onto a kitchen device.

This one is not easy. I read the criteria a few times and one came to mind immediately…if you have kids, ask them!

Yep, had the same question in mind. I tried to envision existing food products that might work as an alternative, should they not want to create a food line to go with it. In other words, flavored sugar coatings could be provided by using packets of Jello…etc.
Maybe they will do a Q&A for this one..?

I hope they have an answer for that as a couple of my favorites have things you would buy along those lines. It’s hard to imagine them not as you can really enhance a product’s margins with continuing purchases. Like the Easy Bake Oven we got my son for christmas where a kit that makes two chocoloate chip cookies costs $4.78.

Can I ask a question regarding the part that says “not looking for actual consumable food and beverages”?…would Jarden Consumer Solutions like a new kids and teens product (ex. machine) and also some new takes on food that would need to be bought with that product? For example, the cotton candy machine has to have packets of ‘special flavored sugar" to go along with it. Hopefully clarifying, they are not looking just for a new food or beverage, but can we put in ideas of new types of food products to go along with the innovative ’machine’ or are they specifically looking for a totally new product (machine) that can be used with everyday foods? My idea may not be innovative enough without the addition of the new type of food product to be sold with it…maybe I should try to think of a different idea than my current one. Thank you for helping and bringing this point up!

Yes Greg you are correct..if you can come up with a winning idea that suits both kids and parents it
could be a breakthrough product .

The trick is pleasing both parent and kid at the same time … LOL

Rainer,
I love this constraint set. Works for me and I’ve got a long list of different things that satisfy this. Nothing confusing or contradictory, just challenging, but challenging in a good way; the sort of challenge that can generate breakthrough product ideas.

I’ll put one I’m not going forward with as an example:
Not to sugar coat things… oh wait, to sugar coat things… I watched a show a few years ago talking to a flavor scientist working with corn chips. Key flavor comes right at the thin surface of the chip when it first meets the tongue. With a highly vaporized flavor applier you could sugar-coat vegetables enough to give a nice sweet flavor perception with negligible amounts of sugar. I see three or four ways to implement this and if I went with it I would go with the one that was easiest to clean and simplest to manufacture.

The more I read about this search I’m really not sure what they are looking for.I had a couple of things but
not so sure they fit what Jarden is looking for.

See description of Jarden Search Below.

Seems confusing and contradictory.

What say you ?

“Inside Scoop: Jarden Consumer Solutions is not looking for actual consumable food and beverages. They would only like to see new innovations – not simply adult products made appropriate and appealing to kids.”

“Kids and teens want:

•Instant satisfaction
•The “cool and hip” component
•Entertainment
•An interesting experience

Parents want:

•Encouragement of nutrition
•Ease of use and cleaning
•Durability
•Safety

I put one in this search today. The “works like” was a lot of fun, but I really stalled out on the three competitor product comparisons.
There just doesn’t seem to be a lot out there. Lots of room for new ideas!

Rachel, you may need to take out a loan for submissions if you are both inventors! This gets just crazy if you guys are creatives….but it only takes 1 and it’s very addicting! I have been here 2 years and everyone is very supportive and good luck!

Rachel, welcome to EN. I’ve only been here since May, but feel like I’ve made friends that will last for a life time! Oh ya, and then there’s the inventing…one of the greatest privilege’s of the free mind!

Thanks Rainer and Ralph :) I’ve only been a member for a few days now, but I’ve checked my dashboard about a 100 times. I’m so glad I found this site, though. My husband and I are both inventors at heart and come up with a new invention every other day or so between the two of us. Most of mine have already been done (alot of them fairly recently), but that just means my ideas are marketable. Woohoo!

Welcome Rachael!

Addicting? This is a way of life for me(and others too) A sick, sick way of life, but I love it all the same.
When I’m on my 150ft yacht off the U.S. Virgin Islands, I’ll pay a doctor to make sure I stay healthy. If inventing is an addiction, then I’m guilty as charged.

Kevin,
Here’s what I’m seeing; I have two opt ins of the same idea to two different search’s with the same serial number, so I’m thinking that the serial numbers are created only once when originally submitted.?

I just looked at my emails for Irwin Tools (I have 2 ideas in ) and that would mean there are over 50,000 ideas…how is it possible to go thru that
many ideas or is this the total for all inventions in every search ?

On the “receipt” email they send, there is a number that generally seems to run consecutively. EN has never confirmed this to my knowledge, but it always kinda seems to work that way and make sense to me, and I’ve heard others comment to that end also.

Where is this serial number located ?

I for some reason haven’t noticed it with my other 3 ideas .

g1 x 2!

This one is moving along briskly, I believe…I submitted them 1 minute apart (opt-ins), and the serial number is 9 digits further along, from one submission to the other.

Ralph,

I’ve read Kevin’s book as well…I liked the part where his dad included him in the “beer keg scam”. If I remember right, he stated that he didn’t let it effect his good faith in people as a whole.

Jarden has quite a few household names under thier belt:
http://www.jardencs.com/Brands.aspx

Funny that thy have both the Foodsaver and Seal a Meal brands. Foodsaver actually started out with one of Kevin Harringtons early companies and they made millions. Unfortunately the scope of the selling agreement didn’t include retail sales (TV rights only) and the FoodSaver guys went on make bazillions without him. Oops. It’s all in Kevin’s book entitled “Act Now! How I turn Ideas Into Million Dollar Products.” Good book BTW, for anyone that wants to understand the DRTV or As Seen On TV industry. Kevin is a sharp guy, very smart.

Rainer~
If the two ideas are that far off from each other, I would guess, yes. But I’m no authority so maybe Roger or someone else can chime in on that? My situation is a bit different wherby I have more than one product made from the same specific material.
