Lesson # 8 I Challenge you to try This Excercise.

I have gotten some emails aboutthis post http://www.edisonnation.com/forums/creativity/t...

and Inventors laughing at the question number 10. Which is “How much time do you spend Watching QVC and HSN”. You would be surprised how much you can learn taking time to watch and really look at how they try and pull the viewer into the benefits of the product verbally and visually. Look at the difference how they pitch the product when they have just a few minutes to spend on the product versus when they have 20 minutes. You can also use this as an aid to writing your own sell sheet. Watch a product that comes up record it with the sound down and think what you would say to get a persons attention if you had to pitch that product. Write them down. Then replay the segment and see if you used any of the points they did and did they miss some points you saw they didn’t. I challenge everyone here to do it and see how well you make out. Post your experience here.

Ron, you never know what you can learn watching QVC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BiDtiY21W8
Watch this video closely and you will see what the meaning “the show most go on” means. As I said there are lessons to learn all aorund you if you make an effort to look.

So what is it we learn from this video…maybe that the guy who fell off the ladder has a lot of witnesses for his injury lawsuit??? Sorry I guess i’m missing the point.

Karl, Refer to the original forum description – that little video was just to show how the show goes on. Don’t tell me – the Grinch is sneaking back in…..

I have never watched QVC or HSN (that’s right, NEVER!) but I will try Roger’s challenge this weekend and compare it to the sell sheet I have on the drawing board.

Julie, you are right the clip was just for show. The challenge is:
Watch QVC or HSN and really look at how they try and pull the viewer into the benefits of the product verbally and visually. Look at the difference how they pitch the product when they have just a few minutes to spend on the product versus when they have 20 minutes. You can also use this as an aid to writing your own sell sheet. Yes, Cool experiment Roger. Plus I took it a step further with the volume back on and hypothetically substituted my product in place of theirs and imagined what I’d say for each line of dialogue if I had the same format to fill. Ps. it worked out wonderfully in my mind,.. (I made millions of imaginary dollars!) Thanx. Hahaha! :)

Alright!!! One down 20,000 to go. LOL It is all in how you look at things that make it have added value. Glad you tried it and found it useful Kevin. I hope you can use that insight to help with your submissions.

I do not read the bible or go to church but one passage i will always remember, the apostles were sent to foreign lands to preach the gospels,
and bawking at such a fearful task, god said (or someone)
“I will send you the holy spirit to help you”

it took me 40 years to realise this was the most important statement in the bible,
why? because whoever you meet, and who ever tries to hurt you, is not your enemy, but your loved one gone insane.

and that nuetralised any horrific situation the apostles may have encountered in those barbaric times,
apart from all the inventions, is that bible story true or what?

it’s that photo of Roger sent me off into another world again, sorry

I wanted to bring this challenge back to the front because I am getting a lot of questions on the value of watching T.V. product shows like QVC and HSN to get ideas. Try the exercise above and see what happens. Post your results here.

Roger,

I don’t DO TV in the normal sense, no cable, no satellite, no antenna, just the occasional vhs tape or dvd. I do have internet and can stream a few things, like hulu, news channels and there is always youtube and metacafe. Do you have any links that might provide the same exersize?
