I would think a four sock pack would work better for that guy if he actually wanted to be taken serious….or maybe he should push people to purchase 2-3 packs of the same sock. At least you’d have 3 pairs and if you lose one you still have 5 that have even wear instead of what most would do…the extra sits there at the bottom of the drawer until you need it. Not sure anyone wants to have to rotate your socks for wear in case you lose one!

I’ve seen that guy somewhere before, maybe The Big Idea? I was surprised that Lisa Lloyd gave up 60% of her company.

Can anyone post the link here…I missed the show. Lisa Loyd was on there now too? Hmmm…all the inventor people that we all know seem to be making that show. Who’s next? Not me! I’d jump them if they insulted me! Try to choke them with their tie or something!!!

Hope they were more respectful to the little guys on this episode! ALL people trying with a new idea should be respected on just their effort of trying to make something happen alone!

Just an aside on this thread. We get Dragon’s Den over here in the Uk.It used to be pretty vile with a lot of humiliation going on[good tv-right???].
I may be going soft, but it seems to have cleaned up it’s act, with little or no humiliation going on.Things seem to be more focused on the nittygritty, which makes it interesting and informative.
They have expanded the franchise by revisiting invested and non-invested projects. Some of the non-invested projects are doing well.Maybe that’s changed the tune, maybe not.
It’s interesting to see that the investors do not seem to be in continual contact, and the inventors/entrepreneurs ar really getting on with it-ie doing all the work.
Some of the projects were doing extra-well,so the investors[dragons]were making a real killing. They certainly grab large percentages of equity in the start-up companies.
If the idea is really good and presented well by a competent person with relevant information-turnover,cost,profit,[patenting is considered important],15% equity seems to be the bottom-line.Of course, they want the skin of your teeth.
That’s business,eh?
Competent, knowledgeable people with good product ideas appear regularly. You dont get a sense of ‘How long can this go on for?’ because the good ideas just spring out of nowhere. You get that ‘Ahhhh,Yes’ thing’.
Definitely competence/confidence and relevant knowledge/information on the back of a good idea strengthens the investees hand.
It’s nice to see people walking away from derisory offers too.
Definitely learn alot.

I saw the show and was surprised the guy with the belts over valued his company. Especially since his family was already i the fashion business, If he had been more realistic he had a shot with them. They liked his product, but his greed shot him in the foot.

I agree…where does that Shark get off calling (several of) the inventors awful names? Did their money get in the way of good manners and repsect? Then you have to ask yourself, would you do business with that Shark…even if he offered the deal of a lifetime….I would have to think about dealing with someone who has little respect for you and wants only to cash in on your invention. Call me naive.

Hey all, Lisa Lloyd here. Loved being on Shark Tank, had over 250,000 hits on mytcpets.com the following 2 weeks and still getting orders from all over the US and Canada! Keep in mind I was in there negotiating for over 1 1/2 hours and you only saw 10min. of it. But to the person who commented on “giving up 60 %” I say this. It’s not what I was willing to give up, but what I got! Daymond John is amazing to work with and I am so grateful to be in business with him. Keep your eyes on TC Pets:-)

Right on Lisa! Personally I’d have given a bigger percentage than that to have a partner like Daymond! Just think how cool a connection like that will be if u decide to start up more companies too! ps. my daughter is only 5 and already wants the whole collection! Thanks alot! Hahaha lol

Hi Lisa,

That was me. :) I wasn’t saying that taking that deal was a bad thing, but I was surprised. It was like a twist in a plot for me. I really enjoy watching all the different types of negotiations on that show. I find it very educational, and I’ve made mental note of each negotiation in the hopes that I will some day remember the different options when I am in my own negotiations. And wow, an hour and a half of negotiating! I’d have been in a serious flop sweat! You did great. I’m so glad that you came by here to tell us how things have gone since then. I’m happy to learn that it’s not always bad to offer up control of your company. I hope you’ll come back and keep us posted on your progress. Congratulations on your success Lisa!!
