I’m really glad that I have found EN, because I keep having weird and wacky ideas, which jump into my head at random times, and this looks like it will be a good home for some of the better ones. However, does anyone exploit their creativity in other ways? I’d like to be able to market myself as a ‘brainstorming consultant’ or something like that – because I can generate loads of ideas and find connections between things. Does anyone have any experience or ideas?
Just until one of my ideas makes me into a millionaire and I retire…

Felicity-
Welcome to EN, you’ve come to the right place. Amongst all the confusion, doubletalk and downright con-artist companies out there EN stands above the rest!
You may want to research a man named Doug Hall- product, process and idea extraordinaire. He is also the founder of the Eureaka Ranch (among others). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Hall
He has some great books out, and they divulge a lot about the creative process in general and making it work for you. Best of luck to you on your entries here!

Greg,
Your last paragraph reminded me of James Dyson’s EN interview, where he states that he is a “believer in naivety” or wrong thinking.
6 billion dollars later…great story; http://www.edisonnation.com/video_categories/le...

There’s a Robert Heinlein story: “We Also Walk Dogs” about some company that does anything. I think that would be cool to offer a product for any problem (and retain IP rights to the solutions, muahaha.) I think there is a company called BrainStore that does somewhat like that. Here are some options:
Get a degree in design
Become an executive
Join consumer focus groups
Write Apps
Start a Youtube channel talking about your ideas
Talk to companies specializing in Innovation Consulting
It’s something I’ve pondered. There seems to be a disconnect between companies talking about innovation and actually wanting to hire pure innovators. They seem intent on wanting executives with good ideas. Brainstormer should be a well-paid position in a company. People also seem to anticipate deep expertise as being a requisite, which it isn’t always. In fact the naive mind is often the first to spot the elephant in the room.
Good luck!

Hi Felicity,
I always thought that it would be fun to do add work…all those crazy funny commercials and the like.
Welcome to EN!

Felicity, welcome to EN. I found the Edison Nation process to be an excellent way to help me prioritize my ideas. I have submitted approximately 100 ideas and through their process about 25 have risen to the top (G7). It is much easier to manage 25 versus 100 ideas.
