This is my gift to all of you who want their new product ideas to become a DRTV success story.
1.Unique-it must be different and new.
2.Mass Market-it must appeal to a large enough market.niche products seldom succeed.
3.Problem Solving-it has to solve a perceived problem that doesn’t already have a good-enough solution.
4.Priced right-it should be $20.00 or less.
5.Easily Explained-people need to be able to understand what it does quickly.
6.Age Appropriate-it should appeal to people over the age of 50.
7.Uncrowded-the category should be relatively free of competition.
8.Credible-people must believe it works as advertised.
9.Size-product size is crucial.
10.items excluded on DRTV: toys and childrens, sports, ingestibles, lotions and potions, swiss army knife type products, cosmetics(or continuity items), complicated assembly.

I copied and pasted this from an old EN blog that helped me……The following is a list of the hottest ASOTV product categories….
(From the EN Blog)
• Toys
• Fitness
• Beauty and Health
• Weight Loss
• Kitchen Gadgets
• Household Cleaning Products
• Pain Relief
• Pet Products
• Self Improvement
• Sleep Aids (Snoring remedies)
• Lawn & Garden
>>>AND——according to the EN blog…..these are questions to ask yourself about your submission……
(From the EN Blog)
When developing your submission, there are some key questions to consider – the same key questions that Edison Nation’s partners will ask as they review your submission:
• Does your product solve a common problem or fulfill a dream?
• Does your product transform your lifestyle?
• Does your product appeal to impulse buying? Does it hit hot buttons?
• Can the product be easily explained or demonstrated in a visually interesting manner?
• Does your product have mass market appeal?
• Does your product have a fascinating story to tell about its development and/or use?
• Is your product’s perceived value at retail 5 times greater than the cost to manufacture?
• Is your product an incredible value – a bargain that cannot possibly be missed?
• Does the product have the potential for on-going sales (refills, supplies, etc…)?
(End of Blog Post)
….I didn’t find this blog until AFTER I submitted my Egg idea, but it was fun to read thru. I printed it out, and now ask myself these questions almost always before I submit an idea. Key word is ‘almost’. Ha, ha

Nice list Joseph. I’m surprised by the age requirement also. I hope the twenty dollar perception constraint is not as rigid as it once was.

I think toys and children products (gyrobowl for example) have been a success and a friend just had his toy picked up for ASOTV…probably should retract that…LOL
