What's EN's batting average?

How many idea submissions have been received by EN since their inception and how many have actually made it to the store shelf?

Hi Larry,

Edison Nation has only been hosting Live Product Searches since the summer of 2008, but we have already had 13 inventions selected by retailers!

Bringing an idea to market typically takes longer than 1 year, but when the products launch we will be sure to update everyone on the website.

I’d like to add too that of all the many LPS’s EN’s run since they started they’ve had at least one winner in each so that’s damn good in my book.

I’ve managed to get my ideas in front of major players multiple times since submitting to EN. That is something that I never could have done on my own. Only time will tell how many actually make it to the shelves, but my guess is they all will it’ll just take some time.

i dont think the number really matters . because of the 13 they would most likely would not be where they are with out EN/ so the numbers dont really matter and if the 20 or 25 you spend is to much try doing it on your own.. you`ll beg EN to do it for you but hey good luck

I would say 13 out of thousands have made it this far. I could be alone in thinking that the odds of this is pretty good, considering not all inventions or innovations might not be that good (mine included). In my world, my ideas are good but that doesn’t mean they are marketable or valuable to anyone one else.

I agree with Robert for $20 or $25 all I have to do is submit the idea to EN and they do all the leg work, which is exactly they way I want it. I don’t want to find packaging, manufacturers, buyers and so on. On the other hand, if I invented something totally awesome…I might want to pursue it in a different way. For me it is that I am too lazy some days and just too busy other days with my everyday life and love the idea of the EN process.

Larry,
You may be posing your question to test the waters and to see if EN is the best place to be… In my opinion they are hands down the best. Please realize that it is not a contest between other members. They could receive 5 or 1000 entries, if the idea is unique and is best for the LPS sponsor , it’ll be chosen. The number of entries is irrelevant, except for the fact that one may be a better fit than the other, but ultimately it is up to the LPS sponsor to decide how many great ideas they will bring to market. So, I’ll leave it at this, if you have a great idea and it is a great fit for the sponsor, it has a very good chance at being chosen.

I wish you the best.
Chris

Listen to the Colonel. He is absolutely right. This is not a contest it’s an opportunity.

EN vets the ideas and only presents the very best to the Sponsor. If you make it to G7 and the sponsor is looking the numbers drop drastically and you are talking your idea being one of the finalists which is usually a number in the low teens.

The sponsor also paid to have EN find the ideas so they are already vested in picking at least one. I don’t know about you but having a one in say 14 chance of being chosen by a company like Walmart is totally amazing and I’d pay 4 times what I’m paying for that opportunity.

I wish EN was around in the mid 90’s it would have saved me tens of thousands of dollars I spent pursuing a few ideas that ultimately did not make it to market. I much prefer to have a “partner” like EN to show the idea to and let them use their expertise evaluate them.

Joe, I think $20/$25 is close to free for the opportunities presented to us. If the submissions were free, I am afraid EN would get bombarded with dead end ideas. I think with a little investment on our part, we think our ideas through. Don’t get me wrong, free would be great, I just don’t think it is feasible with the volume of LPSs they take on and with the size of their membership.

Joe:

I think submissions should NOT be Free.

That would be terrible. It is in our best interest that the operation remains healthy, strong & focussed. Imagine just the preliminary filtering and screening of ideas. It would be impossible to handle. It would be impossible to finance the manpower, and guess what would happen then… No, not a good idea.

I think the charge is fairly low, and it also imposes some ‘self-screening’ among inventors. If it is not going to cost anything, what is going to stop the avalanches of ideas, with a vast majority of unsuitable ones. Think about it.

I agree with Joe. Submissions should not be free. The way it currently is set up gives each of us a much better chance that our ideas and inventions will be looked at carefully. If people didn’t have to pay anything, there would be so many crazies submitting ridiculous ideas. It would turn this valuable opportunity into nothing more than a joke.

I think the submissions should stay the same because the word free comes with attachments.

let me say that i think that you or any other person should feel lucky to be able to submit to EN with out being a member . i`ve been a member for over a year and i payed the full price of $25.00 to submit my ideas for a long time. then the made it so people could submit with out being a member.
to me that opened a door to alot of rift raft BS. i believe that you should be a member and you should pay to submit an idea.
your thinking is exactly why you should be a member and you should pay to submit an idea.
but then again you cant please everyone

This is great information. So my guess is that even if you make it as a finalist, you have enough interest and it says something about your product idea. Better to pay $25 or $200 + and make it to a finalist list than to never have tried! You must believe in your product! If it gets shot down time and time again, it may not be worth it to you to continue, but it sure beats spending so much time and energy doing it yourself in my opinion.

Good luck to everyone!

Hey Juan,

From memory, the first LPS had about 1,000 entries, of which some 44 were G7. From that they cut down to about 17, and ultimately 3 got G8.

Just adding to your data….and all of our obsession!
