That’s probably better suited for the EdisonNation.com forum (http://www.edisonnation.com/forums/18/topics/969). This forum is designed to help you guys with questions you might have on developing or promoting your own Web sites.

Regardless, that’s a great idea but not a feature that is on our short-term list. It adds a whole lot of complications to the code for a fairly small target audience. We’re trying to focus on the biggest impact features at the moment.

For the time being, you will have to come to agreement as co-inventors and one person will have to submit the idea (just as other inventor groups have done in previous searches). The person who submits the idea is responsible for passing along the info to the rest of the team.

Due to the amount of deleted posting entries, which ends up leaving nothing behind but the member’s avatar and screen name/member info…

My question here is, can a Delete button be put in place, along side of the report this post / mute this person / edit buttons in order to completely remove ones (avatar & all) posting? Not to remove other member postings, but your own posting.

We talked about that internally a while ago and came to the conclusion that we would not implement that feature because it’s a bit misleading.

If you post a comment and then delete it all together after others have replied, it might confuse readers who are just checking in on the thread. At least leaving the shell of your post helps tip people off to what happened.

Our goal in adding the edit button wasn’t to allow posters to completely delete or change their comments but to fix typos. The requirement of a delete button is more of an unintended consequence of a feature being (slightly) misused.

I’d recommend that you just don’t type something that you feel you may need to delete in the future.

Understood! But this is already happening using the Edit feature by deleting the entire posting of all content…Leaving just the poster’s avatar and name behind. Maybe the Delete feature could remove everything regarding the posting, but leave a message in place of the deleted posting…

Sometimes deleting your comment entirely is necessary I think. Like in the case where Amber suggested an invention in one of Jason’s inventor game threads and everyone told her that it was too good and to delete it so she did. She didn’t know it was THAT good or she wouldn’t have posted it.

Sometimes you say things that you wished you never said and didn’t realize it until after you’ve said it. It might have seemed right at the time but then after a good night’s sleep and the comments of others, you realize it might not have been the best thing to say. I think it saves alot of people from hurting themselves unintentionally.

I just caught that… I read it hours ago but missed the spelling error! Ouch!!

now I have to take it down since Mark spill the beans.

Apart from helping with the development and planning of many of the Everyday Edisons show products, as Chic so eloquently pointed out. I’m also the lead designer for all of the web aspects of the show and Edison Nation. Basically, I design all of the websites, banners, flash video players, etc. I do more of the design and look of everything. I do some programming with flash action scripting, html, javascript, ajax, css, etc. But guys like Jon, Lake, Arcadio and Matt are the true programmers who make everything work, I just try to make it look pretty.

Oh yeah, and I wear headbands with nicknames on them…from time to time.

I did catch that error in spelling, but I decided not to correct our friends anymore.
It seems to p*ss them off. So if someone wants
to take over that job feel free. :)

Heeellllllp!! I’m trying to enter Springs Creative. Can’t get in at all. I sure hope tomorrow will be a better day. I’m assuming the server is overwhelmed. Can we get an extra day added on since today was a loss for me?

Me too! I’ve got 10 submissions sitting here, ready to go, and this is the first I’ve been able to even get on the site all day. Now, when I try to get to the submission page it locks up on me. Hope tomorrow is better. I won’t be back ‘till late in the day and will be pretty frantic to get these listed. I put alot of effort into them. I’m encouraged that I at least made it to the forums, finally.

I was able to get in right after I posted above. Managed to get my entry in, but willl need to do some edits tomorrow. The site seems to be working better now.

It really doesn’t matter to me much, but this thread is for everydayedison.com and for the websites of the products made on everyday edison.

Hi Carrie, I think if you go to your Dashboard and click on ‘view/edit profile’ under your current avatar, you will be taken to a larger avatar and then you click ‘edit your profile’ under that and it will take you to a page where, if you scroll down, you will see the word ‘avatar’ and you can click ‘browse’ and pick whatever you want.

This is the place where you can change all your info.

I used the steps you described to change my avatar image, but still don’t see how to keep my full name from displaying. If I try to delete my last name from my information, I get an error because I am actually deleting it from my account (Ithink) and it is a requred account field. So, for example, I see Julie Brown and sleepyhead under your picture. What would you do if you just wanted it to say Julie or sleepyhead instead? Is there a way to do that?

There is no way to set it not to display your name. Some users change the way theirs look by changing their first and/or last name. For example on this page there is a post by Chic. Under Chic’s avatar it says “Chic www.nospoh.com “ this is because they have ‘Chic’ as their first name and ‘www.nospoh.com’ as the last name.

I have an idea that would be entirely online. It would be made to interact with facebook, myspace, blogs and probably avenues I haven’t even considered yet.
My question is, since I haven’t seen a company checking EN for random internet ideas how can I go about getting it done. I have limited computer skills and funds but this is an idea that needs to be done.
Any advice?

If I’m reading your post correctly, you have an idea for an internet application that would interact with FB, etc. And I think you are wondering how/where to submit the idea since EN hasn’t held a search for internet ideas, right? Chances are you would have to find someone who could develop the application, since you have limited skills. And then you would have to either launch it yourself or find someone who is interested in partnering with you or in buying it. I’m not aware of any internet application searches out there, but maybe someone else on here knows of something. Best of luck!

Patrick, if I have misconstrued your idea as a method of web crawling for (other peoples), “random internet ideas,” I’m very sorry. If you are indeed looking for a place to propose your own media idea, you may want to do a Google web search on “Apple i-pod application contests”… They frequently conduct contests looking for new ideas that are compatible with their operating system. Maybe you could make yours fit?

I have looked around as much as I am able and I believe I have an advertising idea that is unique. I believe Margaret is right that I either have to partner with someone or get someone to buy it and so far I haven’t found any good avenues for either. I wish I could describe it without giving it away because I believe it will change internet marketing in a good and major way.

Also, I had a great idea for a medical web site and have some ideas for a new security system. Right now I’m focusing on the internet marketing idea because I believe it is the easiest one to launch and probably the most profitable.

I have a couple of ideas for iPhone apps. I’m trying to figure out how to get those done with no seed money :). I’m thinking I will either have to come up with the cash somehow and hire someone or I will have to find someone who will work a deal with me for a percentage. You can post a project on places like www.elance.com to hire a freelance developer or maybe you could ask around on developer’s websites? I’ll let you know if I figure anything out with what I’m trying to do. I’ve even considered checking out the local colleges to hire and/ or partner with a student. Maybe you could consider some of those avenues.
