This is definitely for the real scientists in the bunch….My mentality: Sources of heat= fire, bright lights/bulbs, friction, chemical reactions, and a host of other sources that are NOT EXACTLYNIGHTY NIGHTFRIENDLY….I can’t wait to see the winner of this one! We are talking about breaking down some serious Edison Nation Heavy Artillery….I love this place! One minute we are submitting plastic doggy doo ideas for Spencer’s and the next someone throws out a cold fusion powered electric blanket!…You guys rock!

Got that right,, I was thinking of something that would automatically pull the covers over her head while she was inhaling after a beer and nachos.

What that’s would be more for spencer sorry about that.

Come one, folks. There are more definitions for “generating heat” than raising temperature. ;)

I agree with Greg though. I can make heat, but all techniques that are technically straightforward and repeatable lead back to AC at some point. Running a pump. Charging a battery. Driving friction plates.

Being new in these here parts, This ia the first mention I’ve seen of another search. Where can I find more info?
And Paul, most don’t know about the dutch oven technic, but you’re right about the drawbacks!

My first reaction to the new WestPoint Home search was that it was a tough one. Definitely more defined than the other searches we’ve had so far.

Think about what that means for you guys, though. I bet there will be less competition so if you can come up with a truly innovative solution, you just might skate right on in (get it Mark?).

Seriously. you guys can really accomplish a lot when you get creative with your solutions. Make a point to think about it when you’re not online. Maybe on the drive to work or right before bed to see if you can get yourself to dream up a solution. I come up with some of the best solutions or new ideas when I’m trying to figure something out in my mind just before I fall asleep. Sounds a little transcendental something or other but it really does work sometimes.

First we need to ask WHY will the consumer buy a hot product? To lose weight? Because they are cold? Because it is the next expensive trend? Because they have money to burn?

Or is warm simply cozy and elegant. Matt, I can’t just sleep on it… or can I? Gotta do the research, That’s Martex towels origin? Heat is my topic.

I’m thinking about a microwave pillow. My two concerns would be:

1. It’ll take 445 nine volt batteries to charge the capacitor in the magnetron, which won’t leave much room for feathers, and
2. It may be hard to sleep when your pillow is reversing directions at 4.9 billion times per second.
If I handle those two issues, I’m in the running!

I asked the EN team to provide me with specifics…

OK – we know electric blankets and heating pads already exist, so is their issue with that being a fire hazard and/or EMFs?

IS DC OK?

What if the AC were not coursing through wires embedded in the material but off to the side of the bed generating heat?

I have a solution but it does require electricity and it does do away with wires.

Chemical based heating already exists and is not variable…

There really is no solution unless the criteria is to do away with wires in the material.

I don’t think my idea ia patentable [in fact I am sure it is not] but I have found that when I get into bed ‘sans’ nightwear [trying to be discrete for under age forum members] it generates ‘heat’ from my husband…thereby warming me up also, with out the ‘carbon footprint’! Hey Matt, How do I submit that idea?

This is a tough one.Their not looking for anything electrical . Anything chemical is not substainable without some sort of replenishment.I think the solution is….hmmmm…SOLAR ,, like a pool cover or maybe something that uses your existing ,,oopps , Ive got an idea ..
