I thought I’d start a little thread to gather some inspirational quotes. I hope this Fulfillment category didn’t mean “order fulfillment” (ha ha).
Yes, it is also an attempt to distract myself from the waiting!

From Zig Ziglar: “You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

As inventors we keep creating NEW things people want which makes it easier for us to get what we want =)!

Hello Julie,

Here is my quote for the day!!!

“In business you can’t be greedy. I much rather have 1% of the watermelon instead of 100% of the grape.” I hope you all can agree the 1% of the watermelon is much bigger then 100% of the grape and it doesn’t matter how big the grape is.

I much rather share my sucuss with others knowing their strength will help make the project more successful.

Michael

Edison had a ton of excellent inspirational quotes but one of my favorites is:

“From his neck down a man is worth a couple of dollars a day, from his neck up he is worth anything that his brain can produce.”

It’s especially important to the US as our manufacturing jobs go overseas and we are freed up to focus on being more creative.

disclaimer: they didn’t have multi-million dollar NBA contracts back in Edison’s day.

To Matt,

Of coarse I respect your knowledge but I think you are very wrong about us losing manufacturing. Not everyone can be an engineer or scientist. We have entire cities, entire states that are filled with people that are not creative or will never have the drive to make change. They are capable of being a part of the team in the American workplace. We need jobs for these people and U.S. manufacturing keeps jobs and profit circulating in the U.S. economic cycle. Why do you think that India and China have such a robust economy and they are eating better and driving more cars? MANUFACTURING! They are WORKING, fueling their economy by pumping money into their economic cycle. Around here we can’t drive far anymore and are all eating tube steaks because we lost our manufacturing base and in essence, much of the U.S. power in the world, obviously. All know we are the leaders worldwide in technology but it has not got us in this hole. That part we did right. We just all can’t wheel deal and steal around here and just sell each other stuff. We have to work HARD too. The inventor is said to be one out of every 10,000. What will the other 9,999 do for work if we don’t manufacture some things; not all, just some, providing jobs. I will be starting a post here as was planned….Made in The U.S. Please answer there. Thanks.

Ron,
I don’t want to muddy up the inspirational quote forum but I didn’t see the Made in America forum you referred to…

Just to clarify: I didn’t say all of our manufacturing jobs are going overseas. I said “as they go overseas.” There will still be plenty here but the point is that the creative types who haven’t been able to use their creativity to the fullest because of the nature of their job will be freed up to take that direction if they desire.

It’s like the book “Who moved my cheese?” (they gave that to me before laying me off of a big consulting company in the Dot Com days – and I came out much better for it). The idea is that if you lose your job, you can either seek to do the same thing you we’re doing before or seek something a little different that might be even more fulfilling.

Also note: in saying “creative” jobs, I’m not saying “inventor” per-se. Running a “make your own” pottery store is highly creative and fulfilling to a lot of people but probably not your modern day invention factory. “Creative” can also go in the analytical direction. I consider programmers extremely creative, for instance, even if they aren’t able to paint like Picasso.

Here are 3 quotes that my husband & I found to be inspirational after the 1st try in Chicago.

“The problem with most of us, is that we’d rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.”

“I have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened.”

“If you see ten troubles coming down the road, you can be sure that nine will run into the ditch before they reach you.”

Here are 2 of my favorites..

“When following your passion, No means Not Yet”

“Just Show Up and life will take care of the rest.”

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

I have two very important to me large pictures framed on my wall to inspire me with my inventions when most of the people around me will say as typical…“Your crazy…you can’t pull it off….YOU?”

The first is a big picture of Einstein. It says “Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds” This has helped me shun the foolish naysayers that are just jealous in the first place that they don’t have the b**** to take a shot like I am.

The second is a picture of a rock climber hanging in a reverse angle meaning he is hanging just by his hands on a rock way up in the air.

Underneath the picture it says “Fortune sides with him who dares”

I can’t tell you how many days I stopped as I went by to read these pictures when I was first starting. They meant so much to me. some day I will give these pictures to someone to help them as much as they helped me.
