…. ideas should one have as a idea person… ? Never get beyond STAGE 4…. and think … Perhaps my ideas are just that… and not worth marketing or spending my hard earned money on…. ?

Contemplating my efforts vs reality….

Fairin, I am right there with you, haven’t even come close with my submissions, but you sure do have a lot of ENers routin’ for you! It is hard to think that I may be spending a $20 or $35 fee and not have an idea make it, but the other side is if you can get a winning submission, there is not another way that I can think of to make an honest life long change for oneself, family and friends. You are so nice and funny, I would not want you to leave EN, so keep on pluggin and as Margaret said try to buy Mr. Foreman’s book. I have read a bit and it does help in the details. Best to you!!!

Oh my that is a funny you tube clip Greg! I will have to click on it before I submit too… :)

Thank you, Count – love that poem and it is so timely.

Fairin, have you considered asking someone to sign an NDA and give you an opinion? Many EN’ers do that (I don’t because all I have is that pillowcase).

Fairin,
Do you know which NBA player did the following?

- Lost almost 300 games (that’s more games than many NBA players have court time in)
- Missed over 9000 shots at goal (again more shots than an average NBA player even takes)
- 26 times he was given the ball to take the game winning shot and MISSED

The answer is in one of the links below. The others are just a few that I found when I searched for Thomas Edison on Failure. He looks at failure as a fundamental element of inventing – it’s learning what won’t work while seeking what will work (and as importantly, sell).

Check these out for a little inspiration:

Thank you everyone for the much needed encouragement…

The ideas i have just seem to come to me at no certain time… for me it’s not like getting out the graph paper and/or analyze some concept… The ideas i get for myself just seem to work… so its great for me but perhaps not for others or perhaps obviously not marketable….

Ask me to create a program for a group on Wellness…, Socialization/interaction or Life skills… im all over it………. but just my simple everyday ideas… don’t seem to pan out…

OK OK YET… i’ll keep plugging along here for a bit…Too bad EN wont let you pay for feedback or ANY Rx..i would do that… sigh

Ralph… love that inspiration… so true…

love that quote, Ralph. thank you

Fairin, the red x’s hurt and make you wonder… but if you love coming up with ideas, just keep doing that. Someday the right idea will meet the right search and you will have all of us here to celebrate with you!

Fairin,

I can totally relate to your feelings. I felt the same way a few years ago when I was new here. It took me a good year before I started getting G7’s. Learn all you can about what makes a successful product. I highly recommend Louis Foreman’s book as a resource. Do your research, make sure the idea is a good fit for the search, and keep entering. Hang in there!

Fairin,
Inventing is very much a hit and miss venture. Some of my G7s were when I first came to EN and had I signed up just a few weeks later, I might be asking the same thing…
The fact of the matter is, you are already an inventor and there’s probably not much you can do about that. So enjoy what you love and good things will happen! ;-)

Well said Ralph.

Fairin-

I’m not really sure how to answer that question. We are all unique and we have all been given certain gifts, talents. Expecting that there is a ‘quota’ sounds kind of tough. Some (or many) here invent for fun, relaxation, just for the thrill, the challenge or the money. I’m all of the above. It is the one vice I can actually justify to myself as I try to reach the proverbial ‘carrot hanging from the stick’ and maybe make the world a better place in the process. Ideas and inventing to me are like runners and marathons. Not all runners enter marathons, but most all marathon entries are runners. Some people are ‘born to run’ and just seem to do it naturally well. Some runners endure grueling training and events just leading up to the big race. The point is: they all run, but have different levels of participation and personal endurance. Inventing and ideas also take practice and training… let nobody kid you. I certainly don’t have all the answers, neither does anyone else. But it’s not going to stop from me trying to win the race. As master Yoda says: Patience, Young Skywalker…

Since I’m feeling a little eloquent (for once) I’ll leave you (and everyone else) with this:

To Have Succeeded
To laugh often and love much:
To win respect of intelligent people
And the affection of children;
To earn the approbation of honest critics
And endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To give one’s self;
To leave the world a little better,
Whether by a healthy child,
A garden patch,
Or redeemed social condition;
To have played and laughed with enthusiasm
And sung with exultation;
To know even one life has breathed easier
Because you have lived…
This is to have succeeded.

~Ralph Waldo Emerson
