Contrary to the many doomsday books, movies, websites, etc, the Mayan calendar ends on 12/21/2012 NOT because of an impending cataclysm; but because that date (winter solstice 2012) is the end of the fifth 5,125.26 year cycle. Nothing more. Nothing less.

There is no “rare planetary alignment”. Although, on that day, the sun will rise into the patch of sky referred to as the galactic centre (the super massive black hole at the center of the Milky Way.

The only thing that’s guaranteed to happen leading up to this date is a lotta people makin’ a lotta money based on fear and misinformation.
