I was woken up at 4 am today by my kid & wife and their urgency to get the latest Apple phone. Thanks, Steve Jobs. Just when I wanted to sleep a little extra…

I don’t think the genius of this man has actually been properly assesed. His latest inconmessurable success in communication technology kind of eclipsed all the preceding achievements in computing technology.

We would not be where we are today had it not been for this man. Bill Gates (Another admirable pioneer) would not be what he is (and worth what he is worth) had it not been for Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs (and also Bill Gates) are not per-se ‘inventors’. They were/are visionaries. They were revolutionaries. They were status-quo busters.

The Graphic User Inteface (GUI), that allowed “wysiwyg” (What you see is what you get), normally involving a pointingf device (aka mouse) and a keyboard was developed by Xerox Corporation. The Executives at Xerox, did not appreciate what they had. They trashed it out, due to “lack of marketability”. Xerox had an ‘open door’ philosophy about the technology they were not pursuing. Then Steve Jobs had an opportunity to see it. The rest is history.

He ordered his people to replicate what Xerox had done. Literally. A very young Bill Gates, already succesful with the DOS opderating system at Microsoft was one of the first spokespersons for the mac (I’m not sure if Apple had already coined the brand "Macintosh, but you know what I mean). There is some footage of the “Computer Dating Game”, where Jobs is the conductor and Gates is one of the Bachelors. Gates said something to the effect of "Mac (or maybe “apple” is the best and easiest in computers"

Pretty cool stuff. At that time, the industry was viewed in terms of “Hardware”

Gates, being the ultra-smart-money-savvy guy he is realized the potential of “Software” that can be preloaded into all the IBM’s of the time. That was when PC’s were referred as IBM compatible. So, he adapted what Jobs had done in Mac to be suitable to any IBM and replace (actually supplement) his own exclusively keyboard driven, with little monitoring capabilities operating system called “DOS” with his now very famous (or oftentimes infamous) GUI software by the name of Windows.

Anywho. All of this is owed to the vision and ‘cojones’ of Steve Jobs. The internet, as we now know and have easy access to is owed to Steve Jobs. Sorry, Al Gore.

Thanks, Steve Jobs.

Thank you so much for that Fairin .. I have copied it, it’s perched on my screen saver, on my iPad …

Your right on Greg, the cave walls will be filled with accolades .. It was not about the money, or material gain, or making a name for himself … He leaves the World a better place and we have all witnessed it first hand, the markings of his genuis will forever impact our World and how we see it !! He is truly inspirational !!

The best thing about the English is that I assume everything they say is clever, funny, and potentially mind-blowing whether I understand it or not. I’m not sure if my early exposure being exclusively Monty Python, Benny Hill, and Dougles Adams has any influence on that perception.

But in this case, quite clear we all dream towards leaving some legacy and perhaps the world in a better place than when we encountered it. I think Steve Jobs will be one whose cave paintings will have echoes a 100 years from now, may yours also.

The pipe line ends with me so i feel i need to bang my drum a little louder to have my name live on through what i have created. Creating products is like cave drawings to me. If that makes any sense i am English you know .

i am not sure who shared this on the famous quotes thread… but i copied it down cuz i loved it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To all my mental health clients and all the ones they call crazy like myself…..:)))

" Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently ________ they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… the push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do. "

Ditto Fleta…. i learned allot from the 3 near death experiences i have had… just one being health related… NO RISK factors… sooooo Elissa think about this angle for a moment…. Health or NO health amounts to EVERYTHING…. one chooses to contribute to this earthly realm…. When you give and give to mankind….. and work to improve HUMAN NESS… it matters not what you die from… health related… or accidental or whatever… we all face it….

What matters is how we CHOOSE to live it… how we CREATE and EFFECT…. no matter what our health is… :O))) see a different perspective of things…

but i hear you !!!!!!!!!!! BE THANKFUL for what you have…. even the little things like the smell of fresh cut grass … mmmmmm

we are not humans having a spiritual experience …. but rather spiritual beings having a human experience… these bodies give out…

RIP Steve… you worked wonders here and are i am sure working wonders from above !!!! "))))

Interesting fact I did not know about Steve Jobs… he’s principal inventor or named among several on 313 Apple patents. (Pretty extraordinary when compared to his tech rivals.)

Elissa, I just think some people are given much less time to do GREAT things. Being grateful for achieving can be the same :)

My takeaway from the news is that you can’t buy health. You can have all the money, success, fame, ect. but without health, it amounts to nothing. Making money takes work, and so does health. I’ve been focusing on inventing so much that I guess I’ve been turning a blind eye to what I’m trying to achieve vs. being grateful for what I already have.
RIP Steve Jobs.

I may not have ever entirely warmed up to his personality, but I’d be the poorer for not having learned from him… Find and trust in your vision… believe in the power of good design… and know the job of the storyteller.

Thank You, Steve… You found your work, and did it well.

We have lost a “Great Innovator”. He said often, that he lived each day as if it were his last. What a feat to love what you do “EVERYDAY”.
He succeeded in what we strive to be, here at Edison Nation. He will be mourned by many.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Great Quote from Steve Jobs

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well worn path; and that will make all the difference.”

- Steve Jobs -Stanford commencement speech, June 2005

I thought I’d bummed my wife out today when I told her REM had split up, but then she told me about Steve Jobs. My Apple II+ and IIe were good friends for a number of years.

Steve Jobs did wonders to truly make technology approachable.

What i liked about him is that his success did not affect his ego… he was the same guy…. Plus my first computer was a apple… kinda like learning to drive a stick shift… :)))

To me it is amazing what he did in 10 years !!!!

Just saw that myself. I’m no Apple fanboy, but do actually have a few of their products and like them. Basically, we all live to pay taxes and get cancer. It is certainly looking that way. : ( RIP Steve, you definately left the world a better place.
