Well…I’ve made it in Popular Mechanics magazine, got the cover of the largest safety magazine, a very special praising write up in a European magazine and a pile others….but I never made it to Business Week magazine like Roger Brown did! That ‘s the big time!!!! I’m jealous but gotta give credit when credit is due!

This is not the first time our friend Roger has received big media coverage either. Since he’s a big shot now…I’ll even post the link to his website for him so he doesn’t have to do it http://www.rogerbrown.net/

Roger….keep leading us and showing us “how it’s done” You have always been MOST generous sharing your “tricks of the trade” too!

Someone post a link to the online article please. Roger will have a larger version article with pictures coming next in print.

Last…I sincerely wish for everyone to get their day in medias like Roger and I have. MANY work more than enough here to deserve that!!!!

Roger…I wanna be like you when I grow up!!!!!

Thanks for the comments. That is one of the things I love about this site. We all suport each other. Jim Debetta was kind enough to tell the reporter from Business Week about me. She was looking for an Inventor to interview that had items out on the market with more coming next year. She liked my method for getting to market for less than $100 and thought it was very unusual. It will be interesting to see if any companies contact me due to the article.
As Ron stated I hope everyone here gets their turn in the media.

Congratulations Roger, being mentioned in a national publication for what you do is cool. Too bad or maybe it is good that they didn’t list your website. Also thanks Sir Edward for the link.

That’s ok if they didn’t list Roger’s website…it’ll happen again. Once you have one major publication writing about you, others want to also. When Popular Mechanics wrote about Handi-Straps other magazines did something on it just because they did for the most part.

I EXPECT Roger to get more exposure and make alot of money and then I EXPECT Roger to loan us all a little cash to help our inventions along.

Roger…please let us know which print issue it will be in and make sure you push them to print it! T3 did a WONDERFUL write up for me in Great Britain…T3 is like our Maxim magazine here. They released it online and never put it in print like they said they would. I have a number of editors I have to push as they never published like they said they would.

I am sorry they didn’t list the website too, but I did the next best thing and created a comment at the bottom of the article with Roger’s website address:

And ya know what else….success can’t come to a nicer guy either! Many times successful people are obnoxious jerks and unreachable. Roger will help anyone that asks in this field as well as donate time here only to help people and never to show off (like me) That’s why I want to be like Roger when I grow up.

Many times Roger has given me help and advice. None of us can ever know it all.

Chris, Thanks for posting my website on the magazines article. They told me the printed article is much longer and has pictures. I hope everyone knows that Ron is one of the most helpful people on and off the site. I enjoy the time on the phone when we both have some down time to talk. It is great to get each of our perspectives since we attack the problem from different angles.
I truly appreciate everyones comments and hope I can prove to be helpful to as many as possible. I want to see us all succeed.

Hey Roger! I thought I should look at your website. Very cool and many heartfelt congratulations to you and your success! Many questions I have… Many frustrations I have… I suppose you felt the same when you were on the other side of your success as well? One of my BIGGEST thorns is, ALL the information that is out there is SO SO daunting, confusing, contradictory and on and on… As a for instance regarding NDAs. In your interview “rolling out your invention” on your website you talked about signing an NDA of a toy company, their NDA. From my so limited view out of my window I am told to get your own and it should be professionally done. Don’t be sorry later! There goes the $100.00 bucks!! Answers to all this seem to be all over the map! See Roger I have a prototype, I have a market to go after, I have manufacturers to get prices rolling, I have a business plan in the works, I have a provisional patent in the works etc… I think more than anything, how do you keep your frustrations in check? How do you keep your vision clear? Your system seems well oiled, precise and consistent. Creativity is not usually like that nor are the people who have it. HELP! Teach oh master.

Thanks Holly. : ) The full article in print is in the October 19th issue of Business Week magazine. Tom, like Ron, I keep one aspect in mind all the time and that is “This is a business and I treat it like one.” That keeps me focused. I am not married to my idea, I look at it from a consumers perspective and I like a challenge. These things seem to work well for me to try and see the bigger picture. To often Inventors get tunnel vision and can only see what is directly in front of them. This type of focus will drive you nuts, frustrated and keep you from seeing other opportunities that are just off the path you are taking.
Ron, Jim and myself learned a lot by trial and error and are still learning every day. It is what you do with the information that will either help or hinder you.

To Tom and all the other not so sure inventors. I have a big framed picture 2ft. × 3ft. over my desk that shows a mountain climber hanging from his hands on a reverse pitch. The caption at the bottom of the picture says “Fortune sides with him who dares” This Tom is the answer to your unsureness. This poster inspired me for many years every morning. Some day I will sell that picture for a good amount of money when I am more famous.

The other thing is let’s look at the rock climber and the inventor…same thing really. Both love what they are doing and would do it even for no money (most inventors haven’t made anything yet) They do it for the thrill, the love of the game, the adventure, the challenge. If you can say that…and keep going with your invention, then you have a good chance of succeeding. If you cannot…maybe buy a Dunkin Donuts or Subway franchise…something much more sure with no risk.

So Tom…if you are still “in it”…don’t look for everyone’s secret or time to teach you. read some inventor books and just keep on going forward….don’t give up…but only if you can say you truly enjoy the journey.

Roger and Ron. Very well said gentlemen. I think I was just having a moment of sheer frustration! Funny, I am in the decorate and design business and I tell people all the time that color choosing is not that hard. People make such a mountain out of it. I am doing the same with this. I get it all and just have to “get in and drive” Thanks for the ring side pep talk!

Tom, we all have moments of doubt with things that are new to us or if we feel we are out of our element. My frustration comes from trying to get someone who is in charge of a department to understand my idea when it seems like a no-brainer to me and they just aren’t getting it. That is why I say you need to have a couple of different versions of your pitch to get the point across if one is not working. We have all had someone try and explain something to us like a math problem and no matter how many times they tell us the same description it just isn’t sinking in. Then someone else can come along and give us a different perspective and it clicks. The same happens with giving pitches. You just have to fiind that one that clicks with the person you are approaching.

Ron, very inspiring – thanks. I am presenting 3 inventions to Telebrands on Friday and am on a rollercoaster. One minute I think I have what they want and the next minute I tell my self ‘who ya kidding’. I guess you can’t win if you don’t play the game. Sometimes I think I need a break from inventing but then again I love this profession and enjoy the people in it. I don’t think I can turn it off – my mind is always searching for the next idea.

“Fortune sides with him (or her) who dares” – Very inspriring words.

Hi Michael, Best of luck with your 3 pitches to Telebrands on Friday. For folks doing minimal investment in their ideas for licensing, this becomes is a numbers game, the more ideas seen, the more chance of getting a license.

Thanks guys, just got back to MN from Telebrands. They ARE interested in one of the 3 ideas presented – they even kept my prototype. They were very kind to all the inventors – providing beverages, lunch and some great stories about the team, the process and wacky presentations. The publicist and even AJ Khubani’s daughter came out to the lobby and did a meet and greet. I am glad I went despite my self doubt. I recommend them to all inventors.

You know what’s good about you Michael? You are enjoying yourself. Enjoying this pursuit of landing one of your ideas.

Your spirit is one of the very highest here but you have not yet landed one deal. That does not seem to matter. You are having a good time and a good time learning! I had to screw up a number of idea presentations/development before I learned how to make one catch the right attention.

Many would be discouraged or jealous but you are the type to land many deals in your career and come up with multiple products out in the market.

Don’t ever let your drive and enthusiasm faulter and I will always bet on you to come on through with a big one!
