Hi world of inventors, hopers, dreamers…

I need your prayers and good thoughts sent out to the universe right now…

I am at step seven of the ‘As Seen on TV’ contest. Step seven! Only one step stands between me and winning.

I’m a normal full-time working person with a gnawing drive to think up new ideas daily and hopefully break them into the public one day…

I’m giddy right now with excitement and can’t wait to see where this goes—if nothing else I have tears in my eyes just knowing that I’m on the right track and that little voice that says ‘keep going’ is leading me in the right direction!

Your positive thoughts that the ‘Bottom Lid invention’ will win the ‘As seen on TV’ contest are appreciated!
Thanks, ok going to hop all over the house..

Karen let me say well G-7 is ice and i have heard of a few more as of right now, dreams are made of this stuff. we have a post for ASOTV so drop in there and chat with the others . i just want to take the time and say that these searches are not a contest. as Matt S. from EN has said these searches are serious . oe other item you should never put your idea name out there, we are all inventors here and some may be inclined to still the idea, and with a of a idea like yours it wouldnt be hard to figure it out. well anyway good luck and drop by the ASOTV forum and say hi

Great Karen! Good luck. Why don’t you copy you message and put it on the ASOTV / Pet Smart forum; that way you will be in good company.

Robert, We don’t know where Karen lives but we might be able to take circuitous route and pick her up: she might even be a good match for the Colonel’s Rabbit which I will be picking up at O’Hare – not Tommyboy because he has been a very bad boy.

OK so I typed in ASOTV/Petsmart into the search and didn’t see any of you on it? Where are you?

K, few questions as I seem to be the newbee

1) What the heck does the G stand for when you all say G1,2,3 I was calling them steps what does the G stand for….

2) same question, except what does the R stand for in the R1,2,

3) Anyone know on average how long it might take from step 7 to hear anything about the final winner?

4) I stopped hopping around, called my dad who is a hopeless inventor to tell him the news to which he said, “oh, you had to pay to enter a contest…. oh you paid to be a gold member… oh you’ve entered a few contests …yeah seems they should give you a consolation step 7 once in a while to keep you paying the membership fee….” So needless to say he burst my bubble… does anyone know of anyone who actually won any contest on edison nation?

I am much more of an optimist then old dad but he definitely stopped my hopping! ;))

Welcome Karen

We refer to each stage we pass by the color and number – G is green and R is red.

All G7’s are presented to the search sponsor who has 45 days from the presentation date to make a decision so that’s when the reallll wait starts.

There is a list of winners on the home page. Each of those people have gotten licensing deals throught the LPS’s.

Hope that helps to answer your questions. And start hopping again…G7 is great validation that your idea is unique and has great potential.

Good luck!

Thanks Carol, very kind!

Yes I’ll continue to send positive thoughts out there and hope for the best! Crazy to see the other G-7 ASOTV winners (just joined that forum) to be with the others in wait. Wonder how many G-7’s there are…
I’m going to the homepage to look at past winners and dream ;)

So from you post above you think in 45 I guess to 60 days a final winner would be known? They post all contest winners from every brand contest on the homepage?

Karen, the presentation date hasn’t been set yet that we know of. EN is probably working on that but if it is like the last ASOTV lps they had, they have a number of people’s schedules to juggle and line up.

Once the presentation takes place, the sponsor will pass on a number of ideas right away and EN usually posts the dashboard updates within a few days of that. Of the ones still left in for further consideration, that is where the sponsor has 45 days unless they request an extension, which sometimes happens.

Like I said, this is a waiting game; but you’re in really good company here!

Best wishes all.

there is something we should all remember with the ASOTV searches. now it may ot be like this for all of the ASOTV searches but PHILLIP who was chosen to be showed to ASOTV said that his idea evern thought it was chosen still had to go threw alot of different test and studies , he said he wouldnt even get the $2500.00 up front as many would until his idea had went threw all of this extra stuff. so getting a G-8 still could mean not having a hot idea when it comes to the reviews that ASOTV could bring with this search

Hi Karen,

Just to clarify a little. Yes I did win the last ASOTV search and let me tell you it will be a long wait until you find out if you win or not. They have to go through a lot to determine which ideas to make if any.

Congratulations on making it to G7 though that means a bunch of ASOTV companies will see your idea!!! That is amazing in and of itself.

My idea is going through the ASOTV process right now. If you get the chance to watch Pitchmen that is exactly what they are doing with my item. I watch the show and see what they are doing and can’t believe that that is currently happening with an idea of mine.

Once you are chosen what happens next is that the ASOTV company will make a manufacturing prototype off a real tool, work out any bugs with the product and make sure it will work. My assumption is that in tandem they will start to develop the Test commercial(s) and packaging.

Robert is right I did not get the $2,500 up front. The particular ASOTV company that chose my idea is putting in ton of money to get the product ready for market and produce and air those test commercials so they requested not paying another $2,500 on top of that until they see if it’s a success or not. They are investing more than I make in a year in my idea so I’m not complaining, they must really believe in it.

Not all companies will demand this, it just happens to be the one I’m dealing with. Eventually whether it is successful or not they must pay EN for the right to have tried it and I will get my cut of that so I will earn something off of it eventually whether it succeeds or not.

Anyway, they will air 2 to 3 commercials all at different price points with different combinations of what you get and what freebie they throw in and they will monitor how they sell. From that they will determine if it’s successful or not and at which price point or combination of giveaways to sell it at to make the most money. If everything goes to plan by sometime in October at the latest those test commercials will be airing and hopefully it’ll succeed.

If it fails I loose nothing but if it succeeds…well…who knows?

As for the extra stuff I went through Robert mentions it was a lot of extra prototyping to help the company determine if they could make a profit off of it or not. They needed extra prototype parts to test it better and to determine how to make it and how much it would cost to produce. I had a lot of back and forth with EN making and getting them what they needed and it got a little discouraging along the way because the whole time there was the chance they wouldn’t take it and I was putting in all the extra work.

In the end though it was way worth it and I’d do it all again in a heart beat. Even if this idea fails at the testing stage I’d try again if another made it to this stage. I know it won’t fail though everyone that saw my prototype wants one it’s an idea that’s been waiting to be sold for a very long time.

Congrats again and I hope you win!!! I’m out of this one and believe me it wasn’t for lack of trying. I hope you make it so I get to see what you came up with!

Phillip thank you for taking the time to write so much detail, I am better understanding the process now—never got to a G-7 before also got gonged before G-4 so thanks for helping me to understand what to expect from this point forward. I have watched pitchmen—spent one night watching episodes back to back as I related with al those inventors out there and you are right, it is so exciting to think of folks in the industry discussing my idea..

So the fact that you have the ‘EVERYDAY EDISON’ label on your profile—that is because you won an ASOTV contest in the past? Are you saying you won without being provided the $2500 but the chance to market your product?

I agree with you, like me I would not have the capital to do the prototype, packaging, advertising on my own so would welcome the opp. even without the $2500 but seems that was part of the rules and unfair if you were indeed a contest winner.

Can’t wait to see your invention become a reality—give us updates as we hold the faith through real people like you, inching towards seeing the dream become real.

Separately, anybody know the name of a movie where William H. Massey is fighting a corporation for his invention? My fried told me to rent it but she couldn’t remember the name of the movie…

I think the movie was called “Flash of Genius”

Phil and Holly are both two-time successes. Each of them has the Everyday Edison tag because their idea was chosen for Everyday Edisons Season 3, plus Phil’s idea was chosen in the first ASOTV lps and Holly’s was chosen for the WestPoint Home lps. They are the ones to really watch and listen to.

I’m glad to be a help. The more everyone understands the process the less “it’s a scam” stuff will be going around. This is real, this is business and we all want to make money me, EN, the sponsor all of us. No one is ripping anyone off here.

I made the decision not to take the advance, knowing it would pay off later down the line. It’s all part of the deal. The sponsor was sinking a ton of money into my idea in a bad economy and I was not going to kill the deal over such a small amount of money. I’m confident I’ll make that back 100 times over when the product hits the market.

I wish I could tell you guys what it is I really do. Believe me you’ll want one it’s not a gimic it’s actually useful…well yes it’s a little gimicky but aren’t the best ASOTV products a little silly? Ah, only time will tell.
