The is an organization called Hope for Homeless Youth that has an angle to innovation and invention that I have never seen before and was wondering if anyone could name anything similar. This organization is based in Los Angeles, CA and has an Inventor’s club; I recently made a presentation to this group as a rep from NASA – JPL, in Pasadena; they wanted someone to talk about technology. The club is made up of homeless individuals that get together under the leadership of Clayton Golliher and encourage each other to come up with ideas they can place on the market and then put the profits back into the organization. They actually have products, mostly toys, on the market! It’s a faith based group that has many faith-based contacts and individuals that help them get their products to market, including lawyers, engineers (like me), product reps, etc.

That is very nice. I will keep this organization in mind. I always had great sympathy for the homeless. I was blessed with enough brains to know how to find my own way and then some…but some are born without the ability to find their own way. No one is born to have a goal of becoming homeless. Whatever the reason, they are incapable at the time. I used to go to the race track in Yonkers, NY by my mom’s house. Fortunate to have a few extra bucks to play on horses. On the way home the homeless people would stand on the highway when the traffic backs up with a cup and ask for money. They lived under the George Washington Bridge. I always gave them money as I never forget, we all end up in this world by chance…I could have ended up living under that bridge and they could have been the inventor with a few extra brain cells and some extra cash to play horses. Ron – Yes sir, I think this group’s work is worth mentioning. Most of the guys I met for one reason or other, whether mentally, physically, or both ran into some bad situations that put them on the street. They’re using invention as a way of getting out of their situation and they’re using each other as a resource as well as the support from people that believe in them. Instead of holding out a cup, they’re stocking the shelves at Radio Shack. |
