Lordy, who wrote the copy for Ron’s ad? Good job!

An Extra Set of (Strong) Hands

Handi-Straps™

Heavy loads, fear not. These geeky looking suspenders are like carrying a Superhero in your back pocket, or well, on your chest. The rubberized strap extension secures objects just past your fingers. Then place your hands and fingers to the designated loops and you are a Heavy Weight Champion. Designed to lessen 50% of the load and encourage a proper lifting technique, it’s a great gift for anyone doing a renovation — or just to get a picture of a friend wearing these!

Maybe some computer photo savvy person can post that photo here?

Thanks! I try and I try and I try getting exposure and then it happens when you least expect it and you never expect the importance. You think it is of little and it turns out to be a big thing…and when you think it is big it turns out to be blah…don’t ask me why.

All inventors will need publicity for their invention. Everyday Edisons has publicists on the payroll. That is how inventors that get picked get some free publicity.

It doesn’t matter how important or big your idea is. There is a place for publicity for ALL innovations/inventions just the same. You just gotta keep pushing your invention under writer’s noses. It may be the only way to launch an invention too. Paid advertisement in the beginning is just too expensive until you get a big following.

Thanks…but I always get publicity….to be honest, I really want to see some here get the publicity for their inventions. This time of year it is gift guide time. Writers want to show readers what is new out there.

If I can help anyone let me know. Periodically I go to the book store and look up editors of magazines and send them a postcard/brochure of my invention. It’s a long shot but I got a few articles that way including a GREAT one in England.

That’s one good thing about Everyday Edisons contests here….getting free advertisement/free publicity is the name of the game with a product launch and probably the hardest part. They do it for you if your invention is picked.

The best way to start getting publicity is to start with the smallest little paper in your neighborhood. I started with a free neighborhood paper with a story on how Handi-Straps would help EMTs save lives lifting patients.

Once you get covered you use that to get you to the next one. I send copies of stories to editors and then they want to do a story with their own angle.

Just last night I copied a page out of a magazine with the editors while I was at Walgreens and also put about 30 cards that show my invention in paperback books..the readers need a bookmark. The non stop persistence pays off eventually if you have patience.

Ron, I have no marketing or business background, but I am a Consumer (capital C), so that gives me the expertise to advise you. (;^)

The bob villa description of Handistraps is catchy, but here’s what’s missing: How Handistraps feels as it kicks into action, i.e., as the weight is lifted. The back straps slide, tighten up as the weight that would have stressed the hands, wrists, shoulder joints, and back is immediately transferred to the large upper back and shoulder muscles. And, as I’ve said before, the pressure on the top-of-the-shoulder muscles feels good. Kind of like a hug.

I might have the mechanics wrong (been a long times since I studied anatomy). The point is to stress the almost magical feeling that occurs as Handistraps goes to work. More like an extra pair of arms, not hands

And why the heck don’t you have a video on your website? That youtube diagram-type video was neat, but howabout showing your invention in use? Call up your old construction buddies. And be sure to get a shot of the back straps as they tighten up.

For what it’s worth – (;^)

Sssshhhh Linda….you have Handi-Straps and know what it feels like. You know how amazing it feels to use and the feel and security from injury and strength

How often is a consumer so surprised with the quality and performance of a product? Where it is way more than the expected? Suppose I told you that my biggest trick in marketing was planning it that way. I want the consumer pleasantly surprised and they will tell their friends and recommend with highest compliment.

At that point, when the public takes over and tells each other, nothing I will say will change the public’s voice no matter how much I can spend on advertising, so I will let the public do the advertising for free for me….but nothing can get on a roll like that in this economy…patience.

Besides, the buzz is being created now without a video but it is quiet just enough to keep the knockoffs away…I know exactly what I am doing…

Ok, Ronny. Point taken. This marketing business is more complex than I’d ever dreamed. Thanks for the lesson. (;^)

Heather…here is a great lesson for inventors. The name of that product is called the Shoulder Dolly invented by Thomas Dent. We became friends actually a few years ago. I helped him by getting him published in the book Gadget Nation and my medical testing posted on the website was from his lead and my testing was actually free.

Tom also wanted to help me get in with his distributors but I refused because I did not want to take any sales away from him. His invention hit the market a few years before mine but mine was invented first but we didn’t know of each other in the beginning.

You don’t have to have hostile competition. You can help each other. Everything works so much better that way.

Sadly, Tom had his first child at about 27 yrs. old and passed away a year later, just as soon as his invention got on a big roll making big bucks worldwide. I would NEVER push his product over in his markets. I stay away. Those sales go to supporting his family.

Simple good principles in this business build you a solid brand. My principle here may not be written out for the public but people can just tell…they can tell who is behind the brand…and simple good principles can take you and your invention to the stars.

I talked to a women Saturday that bought a couple Handi-Straps two years ago. Her husband had 3 surgeries on his back. He just loves Handi-Straps she said, helps him so much and her son thinks they are great too. She uses to carry firewood herself.

What makes me happiest is when we help injured and handicapped. I think of that and how it makes me happy…not the obvious millions and maybe billions I will make some day soon. Principles…get some.
