I am a professional Industrial Designer specializing in new product development, and existing product modification and optimization. I have over 7 years experience working with a wide range of clients from large publicly traded companies, to small privately owned businesses and individuals. I currently use Solidworks 2007 for most of my design work and I am also capable of producing highly accurate, high strength prototypes, in house, using a Dimension BST 1200 FDM (fused deposition modeling) rapid prototyping machine.
I can work with designs in any configuration or state of development, from current CAD designs in need of revision, or hand drawn sketches in need of complete development. What material does the BST 1200 use? How is the material fused? Laser?

also not sure if Star Labs does but they might offer financing depending on the project. They might also have contacts with manufactures they already work with could save time and money.

Hi,Lyman,
So if I had a working prototype converted into solidworks medium,a product developer/designer could input,it could be commercially assessed[has it got market appeal],costed,‘softened’ for consumer appeal,and presented to other designers for additional input/appraisal.
Is it common practise for product designs to have additional input from other designers?
If the design is in solid works,is additional consultancy expensive?

Sorry it took me so long to respond. Im new to this site and still working through it. The BST 1200 uses an ABS which is melted, and extruded through heads which run along a given tool path and build the prototype one layer at a time. This method is the most universally functional type for general use. The parts are strong, accurate and inexpensive. I will check out the submission contest, and if you want to discuss IP exchange for CAD design and rapid prototyping I would be willing to discuss that with you. I have done that in the past and I am open to doing so in the future.

I can take any existing file, Solidworks or otherwise, convert to igs and easily work within, modify and improve your design as needed. My services are not inexpensive, but I typically charge a contract price, therefor you know exactly what you are getting into before we get started.
