This forum has absolutely nothing to do with inventing. I met Imogen Heap in NYC yesterday where she was doing an album signing for the release of her new album Ellipse. It is an incredible album and in my opinion Imogen is one of the most creative people on the planet. If you haven’t heard of her or her music check it out here…

The coolest thing was I was the first in line for the autograph and she told me as she was signing my CD that it was the very first copy of the disc she autographed…I was speechless.

I listen to Imogen a lot while working on my ideas and thought it would be interesting to hear what other musicians inspire you or that you listen too while you work on your inventions? Make sure you provide a link to their music if you can!

Hi Phillip,

I actually get up in the morning when it is quiet and meditate for a few minutes. The ideas may not come then, but they come at various times of day.

I do like to listen to classical and relaxation CDs.

Ah meditation…a great way to go. I find that I have a hard time focusing enough to keep the ideas from creeping in while I attempt to mediate. LOL! I’m the kind of person that needs 10 things going on at once while I focus on about 3 of them before I can get anything done.

If I sit down with one task and that’s all and nothing to distract me my mind tends to wander. Music, especially multi layered interesting music like Imogen’s gives my mind a place to go while I’m working that doesn’t take me away from what I’m doing if that makes any sense.

I tend to get inspired when I’m doing something ordinary, like washing the dishes or driving. Mostly I’m working to the sound of children in the background. And I’m sorry, but I don’t find the Jonas Brothers inspiring :). I do clear my head with classical music sometimes: Beethoven, Haendel, Bach, Pachelbel, and Tchaikovsky (music from The Nutcracker is my absolute favorite). To get energized, I like good old fashioned 80’s new wave/alternative: One of my favorites…Joe Jackson “I’m the man” I think the lyrics are pretty funny..

I like Diana Krall almost ALL of the time but once in a while just have to hear Prokofiev’s ‘Peter and the Wolf’.

big band music is kinda relaxing at times… there is a tone called the elephant walk. i`ll have to look up the band… danny david and the nashville brass is one… i used to have to endure classical music as a kid because my mother would listen to it as a kid. now and then i`ll find a station while driving and listen as long as i`m not sleepy.
piano music is great too.

Phillip, Music can be the engine for creativity, so I say your thread has a lot to do with inventing. Very cool for you to meet Imogen. Very nice music. I like Wait it Out.

Music… Man, I am all over the place. I can be inspired from just about any type. No rap or death metal though. But, like Margaret, most of my inspiration comes from listening to my “singing” children. That is the best “music” in the world to me, well most of the time.

Piano is great… I really like George Winston.

I am not a drummer, but I am fan of any drum solo. I posted this before in another thread. But Neil Peart from Rush is one of my favorites.

Mentioning Joe Jackson brought me back to one of my favorite bands from the 80’s, the Fixx.
Bad video but great audio:

Robert,

By the way, nice to have you back around the forums.
