Pet Stories

Here is a place to introduce your pets and share their funny stories while waiting for your dashboards to move.

I’ll start us out:

Chewbaca, our Australian Shepherd wandered into our yard on May 1st and within 15 minutes we were in love. We posted ads in the paper and on Craigslist and called the Sherrif’s department and animal control. After 3 days of noone claiming him, we allowed ourselves to name him. The next day his owner showed up at our door….

While I stayed inside and cried, Kurt helped her get him in her truck and talked with her. It seemed that she had only had him for four weeks. She had found him in another part of the sate while she was rescuing a horse and noone claimed him during the two weeks she was there. I remember thinking…“He’s not really hers either.”

Within an hour of her taking him home, I found her email online and emailed her telling her that we were thankful he had been found and if she ever felt like she needed to rehome him, we would be interested in taking him in. She emailed back and said she would ask her husband when he got home the next day.

Early the next morning we got an email that said she felt like we were his rightful family because he howled and barked all night long and wouldn’t go into his doghouse. She brought him back to us that afternoon and we have been blessed ever since. He only barks if a raccoon comes into the yard and he never howls. We absolutely love him!

I uploaded an album of pictures on our profile. If I can figure out how to link to it. I will.

He could be the litter mate to my aussie. I got mine at Home Depot, husband and i were shopping. As we walked back to the truck, he remember he needed nails. So, back in we went. Just then a lady opened the back of her van. It was full of puppies. She said they were Aussie/border mix. Since i vowed to never take in another dog, my dog Sugar had been kill by the UPS guy just days before, i noticed most were tricolor.(I made one condition, i might take in a tri) SO, after inspecting each puppy, i just didnt get any feeling for any of them, not a one stood out. SO, as i decided i would remain puppyless, i noticed beside the van, the daughter of the woman had one more puppy. I picked her up, asked if it was also free. This puppy was smart, i could tell right off. Didnt even hesitate, i marched into home depot and introduced her to my husband. While i ran into walmart to get puppy food, she peed on my husband once and the truck seat twice. She’s 11 months old and is amazingly smart, scary smart. She’s pretty hyper most of the time, but, when i can see the wheels in her head slow down, i work with her on words….I have some youtubes of her, i need to add some, shes much better doing her tricks now even though its just been weeks..If you watch this video, shes very distracted, the cats kept fighting and we had some cars drive by and i kept dropping her treats http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ka_iRSYmpc8&...

Why, those are handsome dog you folks got. Glad the stories had happy endings.

My story (one of many): I was volunteering with a pet rescue at our local PetSmart on pet adoption day. A person who had adopted a boxer returned him; the dog just didn’t fit into their life; they had to leave him in a crate all day. Guess they couldn’t bother to feed him, either. He was so skinny, with his hip bones jutting out.

The person who ran the rescue asked me if I would take the dog until she could contact the local Boxer rescue. I’d only have him for one night, she promised. I agreed, reluctantly. I knew my hubby, Fred, would have a fit. Actually, he had more than a fit.

“%^&*(#@,” he yelled. “We got too ^%$# many cats, and now you’re bringing home dogs! No! Take him back!!” He gave me that “this is not up for discussion, just forget it” look.

Well, I know how to placate Fred. So I did. (Fed him.) And I promised the dog would go back the next day. And I meant it. Hell, I didn’t need a dog. One dog is more work than ten cats.

Problem was, I had to work the next day. So Fred said he’d take the dog back to PetSmart. But when I got home after work, the dog was still there.

And Buster the Boxer is still here. Silly fart stole Fred’s heart. See his (Buster’s) youtube video at:

Only 40 seconds long. (;^)
