As Seen On TV Quarterly submission?
function's Avatar
Linda Thomas

Just got the FAT X from ASOTV – The sequel. My question and concern is – yes my design patent item fits all the requirements for the ASOTV quarterly. But if I enter here, is this another chance of being selected based on what companies Edison Nation gets to review the final entries? Or is it based on the TV testing for its a ‘shot in the dark’ if a company thats interest in seeing these inventions are not the product inventors category.

Just what will this selection of inventors products be based on is my question to Edison Nation. This will give me a better idea of whether I should enter or not.

Susan, I haven’t uploaded a power point .ppt file, but I bet you could. I checked the upload media page and there are no restrictions to file types. You may want to ask EN support to confirm this. I believe EN uses power point in their presentations.

If nothing else, you can print the Powerpoint presentation to PDF format and upload.

I’m going to submit my idea for the ASOTV that ends on March 1, 2010. This will be my first submission, so I’m looking forward to the process.

Do any of you know if it’s possible to submit a brief Powerpoint slide presentation? I have some computer renderings that I would like to combine with text and photographs.

Good luck to everyone!

Hi all,

Just got a G4 & G3. Submitted a renovation video to the G3. I tweaked the product and made it easier to use and cheaper to produce as well as using less packaging. Hope that helps. Excited to watch them climb the green ladder. I think both ideas have a lot of potential. We’ll see.

D:

Thanks a lot for calling this to our attention. Marla correctly stated our current policy in her post above, which is that to remove your idea from a Live Product Search an inventor must follow the procedure for “removing” the idea from Edison Nation. This is one of those times where business decisions get made and implemented quickly and it takes the legal department a little while to catch up. As you correctly implied, an update to our Innovator Agreement is needed to make sure its terms are in line with our policies, and I will be working on that in the coming days.

Thank you for your continued commitment to Edison Nation and the LPS process. Happy holidays!

thx for the Celente info. that will actually be helpful to me in another project i’m pursuing. and u r 100% right abt following trends, esp w DRTV companies. I think following trends (and trying to predict future ones) are a great way to shape our ideas into what a manufacturer views as marketable – gives it that extra boost over a similar product. Thx again :)

JPLO822,
I see where I was confusing the issue.
“Your idea “must” cost $4.00 or less to mfg."

Sorry about that, Jackie. Good luck with your exercise machine. A fitness trend is going to hit big very soon as people try to start to look and feel better then their peers. These economic times are going to be about survival(not guns & living in the mountains). Look up the number one trends researcher in the world named Gerald Celente. He has been calling the times with amazing accuracy.

Thx Handymansb for clearing my comment up.

Hello Marla,
I appreciate the information and I like the fact that you step in from time to time to help us all out.

However, I disagree 100% on this issue. Section 6 of Agreement says to email or by written notice to opt out. I may have missed the part about REMOVE. I did get my return receipt today indicating EN got my opt out letter. Thank you.

Moreover, I disclosed my invention to EN for better or worse. Just because I opted out at G6 does not mean I erase my submission and or EN is no longer responsible for protecting my invention from disclosure. As a matter of agreement. EN has not disclosed my invention to ANYONE because I was never a finalists. Which means it could not have been presented to ANYONE as per EN agreement. I expect my submission to remain in edit/archive status. I kept my rights in my license agreement to pursue consumer sales by not selling exclusive rights. I sold commercial/industrial rights because they wanted a piece of my action in their market of expertise. Therefore If EN would like to make me an offer for consumer sales rights and not lose out. I am available to negotiate for consumer mass market sales and infomercials.

By leaving my submission in the system. Ensures our agreement remains valid and my IP is not infringed upon as additional protection, on top of patents and patents surrounding the IP now submitted.

My licensee visits these forums and understands EN business plan and opportunity for inventors. They like it very much and helps them in the long run, as they stated.

I don’t want to drag onnnn in this forum, but I am protecting my IP and this forum is for inventors and education with integrity towards progress as far as I’m concerned.

I hope some inventors will comment if you have a question or concern. Start a new forum with you question, would be best. Power of the people, united we must stand!

Again, I will be submitting to future LPS as long as EN maintains it’s integrity. I seen no problem.
count dwn to Xmas,
d.

I feel like an equine behind because when I posted in the Petsmart thread I was sure that it was for Petsmart because I entered that one first with this same idea and for a lark added it to ASOTV as well. It is in Final IP for ASOTV and not Petsmart where I feel it fits perfectly being a feline product.

Don’t get me wrong I would love to see it as an infomercial but to walk into your local Petsmart and see your product would have been nice ;)

Copied from the Petsmart thread…

First time I have posted for this one for fear that I might jinx it…

Had Both finished writing and submitted mine within literally minutes of the deadline. It was totally a last minute thing as I was so preoccupied with other things that when I remembered about the deadline it was in the PM of the very last day and I had nothing written or drawn up. I rushed like there was no tomorrow and used of all things “Microsoft Publisher” to prepare a very basic representation. Got the artwork done and with 2 hours till deadline I started writing. Luckily I clicked submit within 15 or so minutes of the bewitching hour and after breathing a sigh of relief collapsed with the aide of Tylenol PM. (had to shut my mind off somehow ;)

Sat at G2 for weeks and then one day it went from G2 to G4 on the same day. R&D was under a week and now it is suffering through Final IP review. Not bad for a few hours of work. LOL Wish they were all like that. ;)

Good luck and Merry Christmas to all…

i believe he’s using the 5x factor. Typically ASOTV products need to be marked up 5x to be profitable… and most products sell around 19.99 (roughly $20 divided by the factor of 5 give you $4 to manufacturer)

There’s no “set in stone” rule that it HAS to be less that $4 to manufacture but as you know the cheaper the better for ASOTV.

Good luck Jackie…

D,
where did u get that $4 from? i’m at G7 from ASOTV II still and i doubt my product could be produced for less that $4. its an exercise machine. i submitted it to DRTV bc i think it would be perfect for an infomercial. i think its obvious it would cost more than $4 to produce but its still made it this far. Not trying to argue at all, i’m just curious where u got your price point.

Hello D,

It sounds like your idea was not removed on December 16. For future reference, if you would like to remove your idea from a Live Product Search you will have to remove the idea from Edison Nation. You may remove a submitted idea up until you receive a green check mark on stage 7, “Finalist.”

To remove your idea please click “Remove” next to the idea on the following page: http://www.edisonnation.com/dashboard/ideas

NOTE: When you click “Remove” the idea will be removed from all Live Product Searches and deleted from the system.

FYI.Update 12/23/09.
I opted out of ASOTV with a G6 on 12/16/09 as mentioned on a previous post. I emailed EN support because I could not find the email to do it properly. I also sent a certified letter to EN corp office in North Carolina.

Today I got a email saying a change to my PLS. I checked the status> I was given a R7 and a red button to ACHIVE, and no more edit.

I’m glad I deleted all my media files and pertinent IP information. I left some info to prove EN and & I were under agreement and saved files of all that to my computer before it went to archive. Including agreement and digital signature.

I believe EN and affiliates have too much invested in their own production to try to underhand me and my IP. It would be a major mistake for EN to try to build or market anyone’s ideas after the fact and with out legal consent. These forums and all other media would shred them apart if a inventor comes out and proves EN & Co. gave up their integrity and pursued the invention.

I will be submitting again when a PLS is the right match for MY Invention or If I eventually pursue, as many of you do. to invent for a specific LPS.

back to havg fun.

Handymansb…you hit it with $19.99 the magic price comment especially for ASOTV pls. Everybody should go to the website and view the products. the home page has the best sellers and dwindles after that.

Your idea must cost $4.00 or less to mfg. Then x5 to get to retail price of $20.00. That is the most basic formula. Understand the complexity of your idea and simplify it as much as possible to lower mfg costs.

I hope this helps you when you decide whether or not to submit to a new PLS as a rule.

Here is the “impulse factor”. If your idea LOOKS APPEALING it will make some sale but not get return buyers.

If your product looks appealing and offers benefits over and over again to consumer. That consumer will buy it for others and tell more people. That is when you can raise the retail price/value.
$4.00×10=$40.00retail. En & EE will be passing you a check.

I just took a look at www.asseenontv.com and I see why EN decided not too put my product through. ASOTV has a new product exactly like mine. It is a product that has been on the market for years and marketers give it a new “makeover” every few years. My take on it is all natural/organic materials used in the manufacturing of it. That for one raise the price and two limits the market significantly. People just don’t seem to care that they keep filling up the land fills with plastic, etc…. I am afraid it will never have the mass appeal EN sponsors need to justify ROI. Better I just take it to market as a niche product.

Colonel:

Thanks for the feedback. I have supplied 10 or more testimonials to EN with the LPS entry. I think creating my own mini informercial would help. I think it would really help to see it displayed in that format. I think the R6 might be because unless I make a few tweaks it probably can not be protected at this point. Funny thing is this went R8 on first ASOTV and now R7 in this one I was hoping that they had a sponsor in this one that would give it a shot.

Matt, That idea just needs the perfect sponsor and search parameters. You’re close with it. It is funny to see a R6 in the mix. I always took that as something similar is already out there or at least protected. I might have to start re-submitting the couple R6s I have.

After reading your post, I agree a video would probably help, but I also wonder if a few testimonials from your customers could give it a boost. Just a thought.

Just went R7 on one of my last two entries in this LPS. This product idea has gone R8 1x and R7 1x, R6 1x and R5 3x now. I know it is a niche product but it really works so well.

I use this product every single day and love it. And I have sold several dozen (have not really tried to sell more than that because EN started up and I have had it in LPS’s almost consistently for 1.5 years) and all the customers love them. I just called one customer out of the blue who purchased 2 years ago and she told me she uses it everyday (and travels with it!). I think I have to make a video extolling its benefits and uses also I have a new tweak to it that will broaden its customer base. Just when I thought it was safe to take a break!

Hope my last entry makes it thorough to G7 and beyond!!! (need a video for that one too! Ugh only 24hrs in a day!)
