Renee, to be honest, both of my ideas are roll-overs. I’m working on a new idea, or two, for this but they’re patiently waiting their turn. This search is a perfect fit for one of my ideas though….something I made last fall specifically for my nephew’s first year in a college dorm (unfortunately, I wasn’t able to let him use it as that would definitely have been public disclosure…I hope EN and the BB&B people like it). |

I’m glad you started a post specifically for BBB Students of Inventions; I was starting to get confused by all the BBB’s! I may have posted a response before in the wrong section, but that’s ok. I also have 2 at G3. I’m currently working on my next submission. My brain has just been working, working, working. I’m actually pretty new here as these will be my first submissions ever! I’ve never done this before, so I’m kinda nervous and excited to see where this goes… |

Kristy, welcome to EN. This is a great place and there is sooooo much to learn….we have a lot of fun too! I’m really glad to see you are working on more than one idea. It’s very easy to get discouraged when the red x hits, especially if you only have one or two dashboards to watch. I’ve found that having a lot of ideas in a lot of different searches always keeps things exciting and keeps the discouragement away. I don’t know if you know this or not, but you can enter the same idea into multiple searches if you feel it is a good fit. And since you’re a gold member, you can roll them into other searches for no additional cost. Bonus! Good Luck! |

Hi Kristy, Welcome to EN. I echo what Carol has told you. The first time I submitted to EN, I put one idea in and it went red. Bummer, because I had no other dashboards to look at. Now I have several, some doing well, some in limbo and some have passed on. But you know what, I don’t want to talk about red anymore. Here’s to you going green your first time out! You may find yourself addicted to watching your dashboard :) I like your enthusiasm! Best wishes to you. |

Hey, thanks Carol and Chris! Watching the dashboard makes me bite my nails! So, I just try to keep busy in the meantime. My dashboard has been in limbo for quite some time now. Ah well, such is life; but, I’m still pushing forward. So many things to invent…so little time. I just love it! Let me know how things progress with your dashboards and well wishes to you both also. :) |

Kristy, don’t start biting the nails yet! You’re in for a long wait as this LPS doesn’t even close until Oct 1. You’re dashboard will most likely progress to stage 3 and then it’s gonna stay there until after it closes. This really is a waiting game and patience is a major requirement. That’s why I think it is good to keep busy with new ideas….makes the time go quicker. |

October is my favorite month too! I live in PA and I’ve alway’s loved fall – the color of the trees and the smells (unless there’s too much rain…runis the whole picture). The other nice thing about this search ending in October is that it gives us all time to send our kids back to college and see what they need in those first few weeks. I’m sure the ideas will really start flowing into EN after classes start! Course, both of my kids in college stayed here and live at home….but I still have plenty of ideas and a willing nephew to be my dorm guinea pig! |

I cheated a little but my submission still made it to G3. I included 8 separate inventions as a student survival pack. I hedged my bets that at least one of the inventions in the pack would make it. But if all 8 make it, do I get $2500 per invention assuming they can also be sold separately? |

Hi there! I just joined yesterday the 28th for the college dorm contest. I spent this morning reading the history in a different BBB forum, so now I have to catch up with this forum. I have some stuff on my profile and I added a mini blog in case you need to kill off some time. I recently had to drop out of a four week CNA training class because I fractured my wrist. |

How come nobody micro blogs in their profile? There is a list of names of winners posted in the dashboard, how come when you click on their profile name you don’t see what they invented? (With the exception to the shoe lace Twist and Go guy) Any body have an answer? |

Sandra, EN has only been holding these LPS’s for about a year and the products are still in various stages of development or production. As soon as they are on the shelves, EN will let us know what the winning ideas were. I know that I can’t wait to see them. |

Thanks Carol, that makes sense, they don’t want the Poverotcy hanging around prior to shelving it. It sounds to me like they want a natural reaction from the general public. |

Sandra, the ideas are kept confidential to protect them from copycats until they are patented and in the stores. Besides, I’m sure that they have really done their research and are able to accurately predict the publics reaction. |

Thanks Joseph, I’ll see if I can find Marian Cruz. Hay… Does anyone know what the rest of this paragraph detail say on their dashboard regarding Stage 8 Success? I only show an incomplete sentence and can’t scroll down any further. What’s up with that??? Stage 8 Success – If your submission has passed this stage (the exclamation point turns green), it has been selected by the search sponsor to take to market. We will contact you directly with more details and send youWHAT WHAT WHAT! |

ray it is not a good idea to ask “inventors” about your ideas or what you are working on. it tends to draw their attention to an are of need. asking one if they know of any lap top accessory companies is an open door |

Hi Ray & welcome It is entirely on your shoulders to create an idea and do extensive research. If you think you have found a solution to a problem, I suggest you document your findings and contact an attorney and at least pay 75.00 for a provisional patent which will get registered with the US patent office disclosing the exact date you came up with the idea and the date you filed for (1) year idea protection. |

Hi Ray, Welcome to EN. You do not need to apply for a patent in order to submit an idea to Edison Nation. I choose to NOT acquire provisional patents on any of my submissions so that I did not lock Edison Nation or a sponsoring manufacturer into the time frame of having to have the full patent applied for within a year of the provisional date. I recommend hanging around here for awhile to get to know Edison Nation/Everyday Edisons/Enventys and feel comfortable with trusting them with your ideas. They handle ALL of the protection, manufacturing, marketing, etc. to get your product on the shelves. EN has presented several of my products to sponsoring companies and I trust them, as my partner, to protect our interests. It’s a business arrangement and you need to decide if this is a company you want to partner with. At least, that’s how I look at it. Blessings on your success…. Becky :) |

Renaldo, I don’t know anything about Quirky.com. But I do know that it is considered disclosure if you would publicly present your product for feedback. And that would start the clock ticking on the patentability. You would then have one year to apply for a patent (provisional application or non-provisional). Plus you would open yourself up to have someone steal your product idea. I wouldn’t recommend disclosing your idea until it is protected. I believe entering a product search for EN is not considered disclosure, and therefore you can present your idea in a search without having to worry about disclosure. |

mger80, you got me worried. I’ve been on Canadian TV with my inventions. Does that automatically disqualify me? An idea can’t be patented, only an embodiment of an idea. If I show something on TV and it doesn’t look like my final product, I’ve disclosed an idea, not an embodiment. Should I have kept quiet? How would the patent office or Edison nation ever know my ideas were on Canadian TV. Howard Aiken once said, “Don’t worry about anyone stealing your ideas. Even the best ideas need to be rammed down people’s throats.” Less than 1% of ideas make it to market. People only steal ideas once they’re proven to be lucrative and then most don’t have the resources to fight patent infringement. I think patents are a scam but that’s just speaking from experience. They’re only good for getting your foot in the door to talk to corporations. |

I have one at G3 with BB&B. I am having a blast learning and reading this forum. I don’t know if it would be helpful to submit a video of my invention to EN. Have any of you done that? I know they just need the idea…but is describing it enough? Should I patent at this point? It’s my understanding that EN does all that and you get money off the sales..then you no longer own any rights..I have a lot to learn. |

Ralf, Generally for these searches, EN will want to be able to protect your idea/product with a patent if it is chosen. If you have disclosed your idea/product, then according to patent rules you have one year to apply for patent protection. Products can be brought to market without patents, but most companies aren’t going to invest in your idea/product without being able to protect it. I’m not sure how they would know if you disclosed (besides that you just told us:)). You’re probably right that most people get around it. But if you are planning to patent your invention, it is possible that the disclosure could come back to bite you. With all that said, I’m assuming you live in Canada, and Canadian patent laws/rules may be different. |

Nothing is set in stone at this point, this is a learning experience for me. It good to be able to talk to the professionals first. So thank you all once again. P.S. Hi Ray, I have submitted 15 separate ideas to Edison Nation over the past year+. Of those 15, 7 of them have made it to G7 and have been presented to LPS Sponsors. One of them has been shown to two different LPS sponsors and one partner company that was not hosting an LPS, at the time. Two of them are currently in consideration. Although I do not yet have a license with any of them, I consider them all to be successful. EN has taken the time to evaluate each one, within the individual search parameters, and felt they were one of the best out of hundreds, if not thousands of other submissions. That gives me validation to believe that they can all be licensed at some point in time (not a bad return on my $25.00). I can either wait for another LPS to come along and resubmit them or I can pursue licensing on my own, knowing that I have a viable product. Another benefit is having them in the EN database so that they are available for EN to present to any of their partners who may come to EN for licensing opportunities at any time, regardless if they are sponsoring a live search, or not. EN’s program works for me because I do not have the time or inclination to pursue licensing on my own right now. So, instead of having my ideas sitting in a notebook, I have them in a database where they might get the exposure necessary to move forward on the path to what we all would define as “success”. Good fortune in all your decisions, Ray! Becky :) |

Hey Becky, Hope you had a good labor day. From what I read it sounds like a good success story. I have tried in the past getting protection on one of my invention during my college years. I ended up maxing out all my credit cards and did not get very far. It also sounds like EN cuts through the middle man and does everything for you, and gives you a chance to make a little profit. Not too bad at all! I would like to keep in touch with you in case I have any more questions, just cause you have more experience with EN than I do. If that’s all cool with you of course. Well talk to you later. See ya! Ray |
