I’m sitting at G3 on Lifetime Brands bbq search.

I’m confused…when you say “Sitting at stage 3” what does that mean. I have an offering where I have a checkmark on stage 3, and I assumed that meant that Stage 3 was completed, thus I am sitting at stage 4. I see a lot of inferences to G3, R5, etc. I assume that means currently at G3 meaning Green checkmark on stage 3, stage 4 pending. Thus I am 3G on the Lifetime Brands, but I feel I’m sitting at stage 4…as that is the process/step they are currently evaluating.

Basically Darin, When the music begins again EN will either put out another “chair” or check for you to “sit on.” Sadly, if the music stops and they, EN decides to pull the “chair” out from under you – you will then fall flat on your “red”, that would of been the next one where you had hoped to “sit on” again with another green check, or what would be potentialy the next spot. Thanks Susan, Still to confirm, if my check mark is green on step 4, they have completed step 4, and are working on step 5..true??? So if the unthinkable happens, will the red mark appear on step 5 or will the green check mark on step 4 turn to a red x or something.

Darin, once you’ve gotten a green checkmark on any stage, it will not change to red. It may go red on a future stage, but that stage is done and has been passed. So, if you have a green checkmark on 4 you would refer to that as a G4. We always refer to the stages we have either passed of failed. Hope this helps.

Interesting, so my thinking was incorrect … a checkmark at Stage 3 means that was successfully completed and we’re now on to Stage 4?

Darin, that’s really a tough question to answer, besides the obvious G7 then G8.

This is my opinion only on the stages:

Stage 4: I see this as basically number crunching – all the market analysis, cost analysis, manufacturing info and specs … basically can it be done according to the sponsors manufacturing capabilities and in a cost-effective way.
Stage 6: this is the one I worry most about because that’s the stage where the game could be over if they find another like it during the in-depth patent search.
Stages 5 & 7: I see this as a narrowing down of the field, everything that passes 4 & 6 is compared and the best move on.

So, with that in mind, I see any idea that passes stage 6 as being a viable, unique idea that has a lot of potential. If it doesn’t go to 7 or 8 in one search, try again. By the same token, don’t take a R4 as a bad sign right off. I’ve had one idea go R8 in one search and go R4 in another….good idea, just not a good fit for that sponsor’s needs. Then again, I’ve had one idea go R4 in 5 different searches…I’m thinking that one needs to either be shelved or go back to the drawing board.

I hope this helps, but I think the best way to improve your odds is to work on expanding your creativity. Keep looking for problems to solve and try to look at everyday items from a different point of view, and eventually you’ll be amazed at how often you will come up with new ideas.

Hi Cynthia, Is the 7 marked with a green check followed by a GREEN 8? If the the eight is not green also, it is still pending for approval on that stage. It sounds like you are a FINALIST and many congratulations on your progress and Good Luck!

Susan: Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, a G7 for BB&B. (I, personally know that there is many a slip between the G7 and G8.) So the complete comfort zone would be the G8 zone.

I agree with Carol. From all I’ve been reading on these forums, each invention has it’s unique “speed” through the dashboard process. It depends on how the invention or idea fits with the LPS. The farther along the dashboard, the better the odds – for that particular LPS.

I am G6 on one LPS and a new LPS was added recently, the Amazon one. Am I allowed to submit the same idea to both searches at the same time. I’m sure if I read the fine print on the site somewhere again, i could find it, but does anyone have a quick yes or no answer/ Thanks for all your help everyone!

Yes, you can submit the idea to the new LPS. No sponsor has seen it yet until it goes G7. The EN team will evaluate it and decide which is the better sponsor to show it too, or they will show it to both and inform them that there is another company also looking at it.

So you can opt out anytime before G8? So what if someone uses EN to do all the legwork to check if your idea is patentable and then you opt out at G7? That’s the deal ofthe century.

Once you get to G7, I don’t believe you can pull out. Even if you pull out at G6, you won’t know any more than you did when you entered as you won’t get any feedback from EN. You can guess that they did a patent search but you won’t know the results or what categories they covered. And, just because it makes it to G7, you won’t know if EN tweaked it a bit to make it perfect or better, and if they did, you won’t know what the tweak was.

Ray this was a search that ended July 28. We’re now just waiting for the dashboards to start moving on this.

Challenge: Lifetime Brands is looking for new outdoor cookware and innovative products for the BBQ.

If you are a g3 here (hopefully moving through to g7) with something that is perfect for this category and a g7 in ASOTV can you be presented to this one if you move up to the G7 mark before the ASOV presentation (no date yet) or do you have to wait o be presented to the first g7 you received?

19 products at G3 but I’m really pessimistic that any will move past this because they’re nothing more than one line ideas. It’s just a matter of time and luck.

Does G3 really mean anything or is it like getting one mark on your exam just for spelling your name right. Let’s say you’re the 100th person to submit the same idea. Will you and the previous 98 all get an R3? Is there even such a thing as an R3 or R2?

Yes, early on we saw a couple of R3’s, but it usually means that the person submitting their idea did not do any kind of search to see if the product was already on the market.

We also heard of an R2 but it was because someone answered a question wrong, I think it is the question about it being your idea, or not.

Basically, if you have researched your idea and it IS your idea, you can be pretty sure you will receive a G3. I believe the first three steps are automatically screened by the computer system and it is not until step 4 that humans get involved with the evaluation process.

These are all my own thoughts from observing the process for the past year, so take them with a grain of salt. I have been wrong ONCE before. ;)
