Hi all kinda new here (a month or two). I have a reputation with family and friends for inventing things and then 6 months to a year later boom it comes out on the market to someone elses profit. So about 2 years ago I decided that I was tired of that!
So I’ve slowly worked my way around the inventor circuit I guess you could say. I see I am not alone in being just a little obsessed with critquing things and inventing. Back in March of this year after the first episode of Pitchmen aired I immediately got on my computer and did some super sleuthing and found a number to call and ended up submitting two of my products for review. This was pre infultration of 1,000s and 1,000s of ideas. Pitchmen then for a brief time in june and july had a submission form on their site to try and organzie submissions. I considered resubmitting so my inventions would go through the proper channels. Then Billy passed and season 2 was in question (or it seemed) then they made the announcement to go on. Then came the open casting call in Vegas at which time they announced that the Vegas reviews would be the only submissions considered for season 2. Well having no funds to go to Vegas I had to pass on that. So bummer on that. I don’t think my submissions were even reviewed.
Then there was the Woman Inventors open casting and you could simply submit by video and I submitted four products and well they are nearing the end of their finalization process and I guess I’m out of that one to. Boy this is not for the faint of heart.

So a couple of months ago I googled Thomas Edison and found Everyday Edisons and Edison Nation I and family and friends had never heard of it because NH Public TV did not choose to air it. :-( But that has been rectified and they will begin airing it starting Oct 3rd. Woo-hoo!

So I am anxiously awaiting the open casting calls in early 2010 and I have 3 LPS. I know my ideas are usually good ones and worthy of producing. I have seen enough of them come to fruition to the profit of someone else. LOL
Now it’s my turn!!
Thanks to anyone who read this far in my ramblings

Ralf….call this arrogance if you wish…but people asked me if I was nervous filming for Discovery and also was I really thrilled about the appearance on TV.

Know what I said? No..not nervous and not so thrilled like jumping up and down after seeing myself on the show.

Know why? Because ALL OF US deserve that day under the lights. It was my turn and long overdue! The people on TV or running companies with their good ideas…we can do that too! Everyone deserves their chance…like Eminem says…seize the moment…that one chance in a lifetime.

Well we all DESERVE that one chance and maybe more…so don’t get nervous! That one chance BELONGS TO ALL OF US…so just enjoy…and “be comfortable” in that one chance that belongs to us…we deserve…we are inventors trying to do something good! All of us!

hello all en’ers:

i attended the erad2c… met some ‘heavy hitters’ in the direct response industry…

(deborah and eva… would have been great to meet you there!)

lots of ‘’brass’ and executive decision makers at the booths, and am glad i went. it was well worth the trouble of getting to vegas.

i could have done a ‘pitchmen’ filming—- had an appointment with a time slot— but i was really red-lining it all day and a few days before that, so i just couldn’t manage to physically and mentally get it together to fill their empty time slot. (anyone here with fibromyalgia that can relate to ‘hitting the wall’? just couldn’t go no further nohow)

since i only had an animated video presentation anyway, i figured i would wait until next year and do it right and show up with a working product concept, not a just a video.
(i believe in the adage that “you never get a second chance to make a first impression”

on the second day, i did an impromptu sit down with kevin harrington (shark tank) for a brief period to show him my new calendar idea… also had an appointment and showed his director of marketing (bobby) my 2 minute animated video presentation- and he will bring it back to florida so the ‘committee’ can review it. bobby said he’d let me know in about 2 weeks what they thought of the idea.

will let you know how that goes

Don’t miss the point on Eminem. Look where he started. Look at him now. An unbelievable feat. I related to his song “Lose Yourself” because of the shear power of a REAL attempt…it was his own personal story of eyeing up a dream….and the song is about providing a better life for his child which is my main goal too.

If he can pull off his goal at a billion to one…from the going nowhere streets of Detroit….I think we can succeed with our inventions with even a portion of his will.

Note: I HIGHLY DISAPPROVE of Eminem’s lyrics, lifestyle etc. I am just amazed at the man coming from the very bottom of the barrel of chances….the worst start a person could have…to the top in a field that was impossible to crack….or so that was the way before he came along.

Got to give the man credit for his feat besides anything else.

Good Stephanie…try karaoke and STICK with it. You will find it to be probably the best self confidence builder you can do. You will also find with karaoke that you don’t have to be so good…just make it obvious that you really tried….and that counts for something….just like what happens in the rest of life.

When I started I had to sing backup. After a year or so I sang for the V.P. of Sony records in a contest in the finals.

ANYONE can sing karaoke…just have to get up the nerve…but that is a GOODEXERCISE” when you do.

Thanks for that speech Ron; definitely inspirational! I love your doable tip on using Karaoke to build confidence, as well as actual practice :) I’ve always wanted to try Karaoke; but I know I can only sing parts of songs well so…:) Maybe I should find one of those songs that is mainly one big chorus and get that down pat? :)

Great post, Ron, highly insprirational. Thanks!

But Eminem? I did go listen to “Lose Yourself.” Listened to the whole thing. Please, don’t make me do that a second time. Can that kind of music induce a seizure?

I prefer Susan Boyle, if you don’t mind. (;^)

JUST BE YOURSELF AND NEVER NEVER LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Experienced advice from a Pitchmen show inventor Season 1

OK…there’s your advice for a try-out for Pitchmen, Everyday Edisons, for angel investors , live interviews, and interviews by reporters for articles.

I guess all of you know I did pretty well on the Pitchmen show last year. To be truthful, I was so surprised they gave me no guidelines or anything to perform in front of the camera…just get in front of the camera and say what I wish…and here’s how I did it:

Right before so many thoughts raced wildly in my head trying to “on the spot” rehearse in my head what I was going to do, what I would say and then I realized it was just too much to remember!!!

I said to myself…screw it…I researched my product, I’ve worked hard on it for a long time so just BE MYSELF!!!! TELL THE TRUTH…NO BULL/HYPE. I just told the camera what I knew about my invention and inventing. No memorized lines…just get up there and report what I know about my invention! So simple!

Don’t try to win a grammy for acting…if you act you will get CUT…these shows want REALITY…the real YOU…not a Brad Pitt or Angelina like acting performance!!!

ENJOY THE MOMENT!!!! WOW…you are getting an interview…look at you! You are pretty good! So ENJOY IT! Don’t ruin your experience by being a nervous bumbling fool trying to take what is real and shine it up because you think you have to for TV….leave the polishing for the editors to do… NOT you.

If you have seen me on Pitchmen, many have said I was by far the most charismatic etc. inventor of the series. Why? Because I just SEIZED THE MOMENT TO ENJOY…it was MY turn (which we all deserve). I did not try and act a way I rehearsed in my head.

All here need to learn this as you will “pitch” your invention in many different ways…not just for TV shows but it’s all the same really.

One tip I have for ya…I am a talented singer but I had the same stage fright as everyone else. Right before I knew my invention would take off I did alot of karaoke singing in bars to prepare me for TV interviews that were coming. This REALLY helped me. If you can sing in front of a crowd you can pitch ANYTHING.

Try it…you don’t have to be good. Sing with a friend or back up another singer at first. You will never be the worst karaoke singer in your neighborhood..trust me…there are the WORST singers doing karaoke too….but that is ok…NONE are pros…just all out to have fun….but karaoke can REALLY help your confidence for public speaking, interviews or just overall personal confidence.

Last….DO NOT get your hopes up! Take it from me…I am the king of getting FREE publicity for my invention all done by myself…no publicist. What you think will come through…a magazine story, TV show…it doesn’t seem to ever come through…and the ones you least expect do come through.

The day I shot for Discovery the first time I was also filmed for the Jay Leno Show, Everyday Edisons and a local NYC news show. I had the least expectations for the Discovery channel and that is the one that turned out big.

Just enjoy your adventure with your invention!!! You can also listen to Eminem’s song “Lose Yourself” A GREAT inspiration to me about making it and like him, I wanted to mainly set up a good life for my daughter. Eminem is off the wall to me with 99% of his lyrics…but he tries his best to be a dad and that song shows RAW, INNER STRENGTH, POWER like I never heard about a person pursuing a dream and wanting to grab it no matter what.

If a crazy white guy, Eminem, can become the best rapper with just a will in his head…like he says in the song…well then we smart people can surely succeed with our inventions…so don’t be nervous…just be you for these interviews. Find “Lose Yourself” video online. It may help prepare you for your pitch.

i was there to pitch on tuesday….and it was an interesting experience…i really was not going to do it because i was over at the ABC working for Rosemarie Iskowitz and her Dipe’n’Go product, but upon the encouragment of fellow entrepreneurs, i did it…..

the pitching process was out in the open in front of everyone, which included people from other booths….so it was not a very protected environment….always a little nervous about those kinds of situations….but it worked out ok

Well to ALL my edison friends. It was a big show with lots of vendors (SHARKS)and people showing off there products. IPEX was the name of a company that was there allowing people to share there idea/invention to a panel of jusges. Didnt do that because you had to pre registare months in advance. Then there was the discovery PITCHMAN show where you was given 3 min to talk about your invention on camera WOW…Didnt know it was beig taped for the actual show well anyway within a few weeks/months it will air. I thought the company would just take a look at everybodys invention and later choose which one would be best suited for the show WRONG. Then you could audition to be THE PITCHMAN. It was a long day didnt think it was to organized for me, but I really appreciated the experience. again, thanks for all of your concerns. Lets continue keeping each other informed with information
TOGETHER WE CAN REACH THE TOP.

Thanks for starting this thread, Deborah.

In order to be considered for the show, do you need to have a product that’s already manufactured and ready to go? It seemed that way in Season 1.
