Home Depot is the one everyone waits for. I read the article below awhile back on them its interesting but 100% true. Vendors products in retail like HD are designated X amout of space and thats it. Thats one reason clip strips are hanging all over the place in all stores there limited on space. You would think they would remove products that have been around for ever and replace them with multi-task products,,,,tools are a good example.

Okay so here’s my chance to ask this question. I feel a little foolish but you know how the saying goes no question is a foolish question except the one that goes unasked. So here goes in the LPS description it says and I quote (or um cut and paste) “The Home Depot, the world’s leading home improvement retailer, seeks new product innovations for paint tools and sundries.” What are sundries?

Great question Mary. Sundries are related items. For example, drop cloths aren’t necessarily a tool you paint with, but they are used when you do paint. Similar examples would be those neat plastic collars to put on paint cans, can openers, painters tape, gloves, etc.

Hope this helps.

My eyes totally lit up when I saw the Home Depot LPS. Unfortunately, I already submitted my product design to Zibra, the company Home Depot has teamed up with, and was turned down.

This may still be a good opportunity for me to get my idea under Home Depot’s nose. My product may not be related to painting supplies, organization, or sundries. However, it would definitely sell in a paint department.

Does anyone know if ideas submitted to Edison Nation are kept private and viewed only by people who have signed a non-disclosure agreement?

Mary, glad to help and welcome to EN.

Susan, I think you should still submit your idea. Even though it was seen by Zibra an turned down before, I can think of a few really good reasons to try again.

1 the people who turned it down before might not be the same ones who would make the decision this time
2. Zibra might be a company that would prefer to work with a company like EN rather than an individual
3. they may have not had the funds, capability or interest in expanding at that time – timing is everything!

And, I believe EN does have confidentiality agreements in place with the companies that sponsor the lps’s. You might want to check the FAQ section though to see if that question is officially answered there by EN.

Good luck

Hi All,
This is my first time submitting my invention, I’m a little nervous about the possibility of being chosen and giving up my patent after so much time and money I’ve put into it (like many of you have). I don’t mean to sound greedy but I know other avenues into the market place could mean more return. I suppose I have some time to change my mind if something else comes up and what EN is offering is pretty good certainly something I could live with if I was chosen. Has anyone else out there enter an idea for the Home Depot search? Tim

I’m at G3 in the Home Depot search and feeling like this was a good move. Is there anyone else in this search or what? I haven’t seen any post about it from anyone and it’s a pretty big one. Tim.

I think it was a great move Tim, these people have the ability to quickly put your product in every Home Depot in the world if they wanted to, remember any percentage of something is better than no percentage of nothing! Ps, excellent invention I just wish I had it when I painted two houses last month!….I got a couple submissions in there, one for a tape measure and one for a brush. Good Luck!

Hey William, You are right a little of something big is better than a lot of nothing. Thanks for the nice feed back and I believe my lid would have saved you some time or at least the trouble of cleaning up every day. maybe they will take both our ideas because they certainly work well together and that would be pretty cool. I think it was a good move too. You know I love your product. I don’t have anything in this search, but I’ll be going back to my brother’s next week to do some painting. Hopefully, I will be inspired and come up with something . Good luck Tim and William!

Thanks Margaret, maybe you could put in a few good words to EN for my lid(ha ha). Could you do me a favor and maybe keep track of how long it takes to clean up or wrap up at the end of day when your helping your brother paint. Also what you do with your tools when you take a break/lunch.
I certainly don’t want to add to your work load but any little bit of info in these areas is quite helpful and appreciated. I have a pretty good idea from my own experience but it’s great to get it other people. Thanks again Tim.

Tim I can tell you about my last painting experience over there. I would say that clean up usually took me about half an hour to clean the brushes and rolller (if it can be reused), etc. When I take a break I usually put the brushes in a ziploc bag or wrap it in saran wrap. I’m not kidding that I kept thinking it would be nice to have your lid so I wouldn’t have to wrap them and so I’d have a place to put the darn stir stick. EN, pick Tim’s ez lid! I need one.

Tim,
I love the idea! I painted a beach chair and bench for my home office. The cleaning, searching for tools, and mess was very time consuming. I still have a bookshelf and set of drawers to paint. I put it off all summer.
An invention that can keep me organized, has less clean up and saves me time has my vote. :)

Thanks Steve, I have a handful of other ideas(mixed bag) but being in the trades I’m always trouble shooting and trying find ways to get the job done easier and more efficiently. I just need money to apply for pantents on them, this first one broke me but I’m confident it will be on store shelves in the near future, one way or a another. Good luck to all Tim. P.S I’m think I’ve got the dashboard bug.

We used to hold those meetings here, but they were ineffective so we all gave up. LOL

Besides, Eddie Spaghetti (or Sir Edward to some of you) would show up with a syringe of “Refresh” and knock us all off the wagon. It wasn’t a pretty sight!! You’ll just have to self-manage your addiction…….good luck with that!!

Tim,

That EZ lid is awesome, good luck. The low amount of traffic on this thread makes me think there may not be that many submissions for this one. Good luck to those who have submitted, I couldn’t think of any new paint products. The one idea I had has been done.

Cheers

Hey Dale, Thanks for the kind words. I’ve started to do what you suggested but by email, one company said that on average they will contact people back within 6 to 8 weeks so we’ll see. There’s still more companies to go but it takes time describing everything. I’m hoping to submit a video of my lid being used for the search but I’m not exactly sure how to do it and I’m running out of time. I’ll just give it my best shot. By the way does anyone know if you have to retype all the info for an idea if you’ve already entered a search and want to enter another search with the same idea? Any feed back would be helpfull. Thanks Tim.

Hi Tim,

You don’t have to retype everything to enter the idea in another search. When you enter the new search, it should ask you if you want to enter a new idea or already existing idea. Choose already existing and it will show a drop down list of your ideas. Select the one you want. I think you will have to do the digital signature again, but everything else will transfer over. For the video, just use a digital camera that has video. Shoot a short video (under 2 minutes), upload it to your pc, then go in and edit your submission. There will be a button somewhere that says upload media. Upload it from your pc and give it a title. Hit the save button and you’re done. I’m still trying to think of something for this search. Maybe I’ll be struck by a flash of genius when I finish painting my kitchen tonight. :)

I would have submitted everything seperatly this way it increases your odds. They make look at it as one submission the way you did it… But thats just my 2 cents.
