How long does it typically take to move from the "finalists" spot to the "success" spot?

I was curious as to the process and the time involved in moving from the “finalist” spot to the “success” spot. It is my understanding that Edison has approved our product and it is now before the company.

What LPS did you enter?

Once you reach G7 and are a finalist your idea will be presented to the LPS sponser with a bunch of other ideas deemed worthy. EN takes anywhere from 30 to 50 ideas, plus or minus depending on the LPS and the amount of quality submissions.

After the presentation we all watch our Dashboards, hoping no Red X shows up. If the sponser takes your idea into final consideration nothing will change for a while. They have a 45 day exclusive look at it and EN asks that they respond by then, but technically they have 6 months for that is the term of the contract we signed when submitting an idea to EN (when an idea hits G7 it is in for the whole 6 month term, no pulling out once reaching this stage). It seams most sponsers are taking a long time making decisions. Philp Avery has idea still being considered by a company that is past the six months. We fear the encomy is slowing down the process.

If they didn’t want to pursue your idea a Red X will show up very soon after the presentation. Unoffically known as an R8. A close, but no cigar. We have a club where we all commiserate, see forum “R8 Collectors Club” if the news is bad.

Wishing you luck and that you idea has been presented a while a ago and no red X is ever going to show up.

Mark has it right.

My one idea with WD-40 is well past the 6 month point now. It’s going on 8.5 months since the presentation. I pressed the point about the contract at the 6 month point in hopes that that would get the sponsor moving. I was asked if I was going to take the idea elsewhere. I said no so now it’s still in limbo. I’m not under a contract technically anymore so I could take it elsewhere if I wanted but it’s designed specifically for them so I’m letting it ride in hopes that since they haven’t killed it that means they want it and it’s as Mark says the economy slowing them down.

Does the contract end after the 6 month period? Or is the sponsor held to it until they make a decison? Could they just decide to go ahead with the project without the inventor ?

We entered “As Seen On TV” and Petsmart. Petsmart has not hit the finalist mark yet but it is next.

Thank you for your posts. We will be still hopefully waiting.

The contract ends at the 6 month point. Then even if the sponsor is interested they can’t stop you from taking it elsewhere.

I just found out today my 8.5 month wait on WD40 was for naught..they fianlly decided not to pursue the idea and I got an R8.

Sorry Phil… That’s a long time to wait for an R8.

Has this happened to anyone? The forums and EN staff have stated that if your product is not chosen (Green 8) then inventors should re-submit their idea since EN has different ASOTV partners. so.. if it reaches G7 , it says, they will resubmit or present to the sponsor. However, , it suddenly turns to Red 8. without it being presented. so.. money back right? and inventors should NOT re-submit their ideas to ASOTV each quarter !?

Hi Jane,

If an idea is a G7 for one search that is no guarantee it will reach that status in the next. Your idea is evaluated just like it was before and that includes comparing it to other peoples submissions. My guess is ASOTV gets a lot of submissions. Internally at EN I guess there were a few other ideas that were in their opinion slightly better. They probably shouldn’t have made you G7 if they were planning another internal cut. Maybe that final cut wasn’t planned and was last minute.

I’m not sure what EN’s wording is specifically but I’ve had G7’s go red before presentations before. In my case though I think it was because the idea was a better fit for another sponsor I also had it in at the same time.

You should check with Marla in the official forum and see how she sees it.

Thanks. Actually, according to the forum, what EN (Marla) has stated before and
according to Dashboard, it should not be killed before presentation date nor should it be killed before the deadline. Thanks again. I deleted all of my submissions. and won’t be revisiting EN unless they correct this problem. I will pursue this issue.

Hello, Marla brought Jane’s issue to my attention and I wanted to address it. For the most recent ASOTV Q1 search, there have been no presentations scheduled; in fact I haven’t even begun to put the presentation together yet! Being failed at Stage 8 would mean that we had presented to a sponsor and they had passed on the idea.

Jane, I was unable to check the problem because your ideas are no longer in our database. However, I am assuming that there was a technical issue or a mistake was made in this situation.

Marla will be following up with an email. I hope my explanation makes sense and I apologize for the error.
