I just wanted to start an Innovation Fund discussion – specifically for mobile phone & APP submisions. I’m working on one that I will likely be submitting. Anyone Else submitting or have any comments on the subject??

If you want to hedge your bets with any product you want to license, make a list of those companies who already have shelf space (with similar products/lines) and target them directly by sending them a 1 page sell sheet (with at least PPA protection). I try to contact a mid-level marketing manager (easy to find thru linkedin/jigsaw) and pitch them my 1 line benefit statement (12-14 words of product’s best benefit)/sell sell sheet. I’ve found wonderful designers on elance.com who create 3D visuals of my concept for under $50. If a company is interested in what you have presented on your sell sheet, they will usually then ask to see a prototype. Then I will either print out the prototype (3D printer) and/or send a working/works-like prototype. Spread your bets out. Take more control of your own destiny. Learn more about the decision making process (by true decision makers.. EN is not really) …and the dreaded RED X’s are much easier to swallow. Cheers. |

Hi Scott E., I was thinking the same thing about approaching other app develpment companies with my app idea since I really believe in it and Edison passed on it. I haven’t had time yet to do the research but if you could pass along any companies that seem legit to me I’d greatly appreciate it! I was thinking Edison developing apps might be them biting off a bit more then they can chew because 1- They’ve never done it before and 2- it is a very specialized industry and Edison seems to be more of a manufacturer of hard goods. But hey, for the price I couldn’t pass up the chance. At least I know it went through all the approval stages except the last to me means it is a viable idea. Good luck with your app – don’t give up! |

R7 too. beginning to wonder if EN was really committed to investing in mobile apps…hindsight I probably shouldve pitched my app idea to multiple other app development companies within the 6 months it took EN to finally make a decision. oh well. shame on me for putting all of my eggs in one basket. glass is half full, right?! live and learn. |

Thanks for the info, congratulations to all still in this. Here’s hoping they decide to pursue multiples once the Pandora’s box of software development has been opened. |

I pretty positive that no apps are built at G7 that is just another approval round. |

Read the announcements from the first fund: http://www.edisonnation.com/forums/live-product... $25 Million Innovation Fund Searches When we launched Edison Nation, we partnered with major retailers and manufacturers to help them fill specific product needs through our Live Product Searches. Along the way we’ve learned that many great ideas come when you aren’t looking for them at all. With the Edison Nation Innovation Fund, we are searching for, investing in and bringing to market those ideas that break the mold. Cost to pitch your idea: $100 (just $35 for Insiders). The pay off? If your idea is chosen, we will invest up to $250,000 development dollars into your innovation and bring it to market – just like the ideas featured in our television series, Everyday Edisons. You will have a development partner in Edison Nation for life and receive an industry-leading royalty. |

I was under the impression that the inno fund was different from the LPS, I thought EN builds the app at G7 and then they bring it to market themselves while shopping it along the way to potential clients. Hmmmmm |

That doesn’t answer my question. I was under the assumption that EN has their own $$ for this search and wasn’t needing approval from an outside company. |

G6 is a great accomplishment but it is only a step towards success. Next is G7 where they decide your idea is worth presenting to a sponsor. G8 is the one where they start working on your idea. it is a long haul still. I had an idea at G7 for 6 months but ultimately the sponsor chose to pass on it so it got a R8. at least at R8 you get feedback as to the reason(s) your idea didn’t make it to production. |
