Ok, looks like the perfect mop. Someone put a lot of work into designing it. I hope they are richly rewarded. But do we always need perfection? I use mops from the dollar store (cost $1) so I can throw them away when they get dirty. And my cheap Kmart mop bucket has a suspended basket to “wring” the mop out, hands free. Good enough to get job done. Which worries me. Why? Because there might be no market for my new & improved innovations if people are satisfied with “good enough.” Oh, well. Guess I’ll keep my day job. (;^) |

Wow! Just watching that video, I am already a HUGE fan of the Easy Mop! I don’t think I could use my “TWISTER” on the window like that, haha!! That is a great and inexpensive NEW concept to an old idea of mopping!! Great Invention!! |

Okay so we all agree that mop is a way cool invention. Now about the O’Cedar search – Is anyone else in this thing? LOL I am currently at G3 Of course cuz that seems to be the holding place until the search ends. It ended last night and now I guess the dance begins. This is my first LPS so I am excited to see just how far my idea goes. Anyone out there playing the waiting game with me??? |

I put in an idea last night. Still at G1 as I just barely made the deadline. Usually there isn’t much chatter on these boards until something closes. Will be interesting to see how many enter this one however. Good luck! |

I’m waiting with you Mary. I’ve been working on an idea and finally submitted last night with 4 hours to spare. Still have to do a drawing and finish the rough prototype, but it’s in! |

When this search was first announced, I had no ideas for the and planned on taking this one off and giving my brain a break….then don’t ya know an idea hits me while I’m flat on my back at the chiropractors thinking about how much I didn’t want to go home to clean. I’m definitely out of the box on this one. Good luck Mary & Patty and all! |

I submitted an idea that I thought up at, no lie,… my Allergist’s office. Just goes to show you never know when an idea will pop into your head. (Now, I didn’t say it was a good idea, just an idea.) We’ll see how far it goes – at G3 right now. Good luck to all. |

Glad to know some are in the game with me. Yeah us crazy idea people have no control over when an idea will hit now do we. ;-) I’m seeing a pattern here someone please correct me if I’m wrong but don’t most ideas make it to G3. Has anyone ever been cut before G3. I currently have 3 LPS all at G3. One in this LPS same idea in BB & B and one other idea in BB & B. Now my other idea that is in BB & B I actually came up with the idea about 4 or 5 years ago and the other morning I was lying in bed unable to sleep yet wanting to and agruing with the clock not wanting to get up just yet and Eureka I remembered my invention. Motivation to get up cruising thru my veins I jumped on the computer and submitted my idea. Now in all my excitement I had not read all the criteria and my product doesn’t meet the price range, but I figured well I already paid and submitted so I guess I’ll just let it ride no sense yanking it. So I say all this to say I am surprised to see that one go to G3. I really thought it would check out before stage 4. So now it just made G3 today and I guess it’s in the running till the close of that search. Or maybe some of you seasoned ENer’s can tell me if a search makes it to G3 is it pretty much in it till the close or have any of you seen a G3 go R4 before the close of a search. And last question I think I have also seen that a search will not go beyond G3 before the close of a search Cuz if I understand this process correctly step 4 is a comparison of the submitted products as well as more indepth patent searching also. |

Okay so question to those of you seasoned ENer’s who have been through this game before. About how long after the close of the search before we start seeing some action. Slowly the G4s and R4s will start but did it take a week or weeks? Can you tell I’m anxious and impatient. I know the whole watched pot thing but I can’t help it. Now if I could just invent something to speed up and slow down time now that’s an invention.LOL Oh yes a little PS to my last post. I went in and edited the LPS with the pricing conflict and changed the price to reflect their price range. Figured I would give it a fighting chance that way. :-) |

It’s hard to say when the dashboard will move. Some move quickly, and others lag on. One thing for sure, it will eventually move. |

Went G2 a few days ago for my 11th hour submission. Have never entered this late so I guess I expected it to move faster as the deadline has passed. Oh well. I’ll just enjoy being green! |

Hi Mary. I know how you feel – this is my first LPS too. Actually, I entered two serches at pretty much the same time. So it’s all still very new to me too. But it is fun to be part of the game. This one, I entered about a week and a half before the deadline, and moved from g1 to g3 in about a week. But since then it’s just stayed put. Watching water boil – great analogy! ;^) Well, best of luck to all! |

Andrew, So sorry where are my manners? Welcome! Hopefully we can both ride this thing out till the end. Part of me is glad that they are being so thorough. However I’d like to see some action. Like Jan said though “It will eventually move!” Better to be G3 than R4. |

Hi Guys, I’ve been here since the beginning. Sometimes an LPS will sit there for a very long time at G3. It seems to me like they work on all of them, but the ones with presentation dates set get priority and move faster. It makes sense you’d want to do them in order of when they’ll be presented. When there is no date set they move very slowly. Typically it takes about a week to get to G3. If no date is set it’ll move maybe once every 3 weeks or so. Once a date is set it’ll start moving again usually about a week out from the presentation with massive movement and lots of eliminations in the 2 or 3 days before. They present and most times within 3 days there will be an initial round of eliminations. This doesn’t always happen but it has most of the time. PetSmart was an exception to this because they presented to multiple buyers and it wasn’t as easy to get initial eliminations from them. I’ve found for myself that the wait after the presentation is the hardest because the companies are doing their research and testing of the ideas to decide if they want to do them or not and they take a very very long time to do that. In some cases we are talking months not days. I still have one in WD-40 and it’s been over 4 months since that one closed. I tend to enter almost every LPS at the last minute to avoid the wait up front and I hope then I get to enjoy the wait on the back end as a finalist. Good luck, hang in there and be patient. It pays off. I have 2 ideas in with EN, one through an LPS and the other for the show that I presented at a casting call. I never could do any of this on my own and now I have 2 products on the way to market. Believe in yourself, be patent and keep trying and if it’s a good idea eventually someone here will see that. |

Thanks for the info Phil. Wow I am in the presence of greatness. Seriously though I hope to go to the open casting for Everyday Edisons when it comes early 2010. As I’m sure you probably do also. I have so many inventions that don’t fit any of the LPS’s. Can I ask how many ideas did you present when you attended the open casting? I have 8 ideas which I hope to present (myself and 3 others) who hope to each go through twice. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Mary S |

Phillip, Thanks for the detail on the process. That had been such a big point of ambiguity before. But your experience sounds very reassuring. Congrats on the 2 products you have on the way to markt too. That’ awesome! Once you get to a point where you feel comfortable, and the branding is establihed, let us know what it is, and where we can get it. I’d love to support a fellow inventor! |

Thanks for all the comments everyone! I was just trying to relay the reality of the process as I know it from having entered many many times. Mary, yes I have some ideas I’d like to present at the next casting call too. As far as I know there isn’t a limit to how many ideas you can present but unless you go to multiple casting calls I don’t think you’ll be able to present all 8, there just won’t be enough time. When you arrive you have to line up and go through an initial presentation. If you pass that one you are sent to the one they film before Louis and other people from the show as well an outside expert. So for each idea you have to present twice. One time to qualify to be filmed and then a 2nd time for the filming. Unfortunately to be fair you can only present 1 idea at a time. You won’t go in and present all 8 one after the other. You present the first one, if it makes it you present the 2nd time then you get back in line and do that all over again for the next idea. The casting call I went to had 2 groups of preliminary judges and then just the one for filming. I presented 2 ideas, both of which made it to the filming stage. They chose the one for the show and the other made it into a group we nicknamed the “Fortunate 124” here on EN. They were ideas EN wanted to present to sponsors that didn’t make it on the show. That idea is now a finalist with Walmart. Andrew, As I said the one idea was for the show. I don’t even know what they’ve done with that one. They keep it a mystery even to us so we can be surprised for the camera. It’s very frustrating not knowing what is going on with it. I was down there for initial filming over a year ago and have no clue what is going on or when I’ll be back down for the big reveal. It’s a hard wait, but I’m happy I’m in it. I trust EN/EE completely. The other item is the winner for the first ASOTV search. They are going back and forth on prototypes on that one and haven’t settled on exactly how to make it yet. Unfortunately I can’t tell you anything beyond that about either idea. Actually now that I think about it none of the winners of the LPS’s ideas are out there yet so for all the people that won so far no one here has any idea what they came up with. Seems kind of crazy but the site is so new that none of the products have made it to market yet! Man I write a lot…Sorry. Good luck everyone and like I said hang in there. If your idea is good eventually someone will want it. Check out my blog if you want some more info about inventing and the process and my views on it. I’ve gotten lots of good comments about them, maybe you’ll find them interesting too. |
