Is it me…or does the LPS seem somewhat vague? I mean, YAHOO is an online search engine, right? So are they looking for internet ideas, or shelf ideas…and if this is the case – what shelves? I guess I am confused as to the idea of the product or what the sales demographic is.
Anyone care to share or elaborate?

Good morning Katherine. On this LPS they are bringing all the retailers and manufacturers in that they have. Yahoo is the sponsor of it to get more poeple thinking green. The items picked will be going to shelf, I am just not sure how many retailers EN’s has which would determine how many items are picked.

Thank you, Randall. That does help. It still seems like a very large premise – anything green, but it also opens up many ideas/options.

Katherine:
The final product has to be able to be merchandised and sold in stores (that does not exclude online sales).
I just read this and it is confusing. Why does it say that Yahoo is looking for the best “do-it-yourself” green ideas. That seems strange. I am sure it is not correct.
Later on they state:
A green idea can be anything; a new way to improve on a current product that uses fewer resources or recycled materials. A smarter, cleaner, greener way to do a task millions of us do each day. It can be any smart product idea with a focus on making our air, water, and planet cleaner and greener.

Thanks, Matt. It was confusing to me, or vague. But now I see it as pretty open-ended, which only makes more room for various types of ideas.
It’s an exciting opportunity. I just need to come up with an idea:)

Has anyone achieved a G3 or higher on the Yahoo search yet?

I’m even dreaming about my dashboard! Last night I dreamed I got a g-6 then a R-7 and a red x.
Woke me up! This is so bad!

I just received a G3 today and noticed its now on the Yahoo! Green website and available for voting. Pretty cool to see it up there!
Wonderful… now in addition to being addicted to checking my dashboard status… I’ll now be addicted to checking my number of votes!

@ Matt: I am too, confused about description: Challenge: Yahoo! Make It Green is looking for do-it-yourself ideas that improve lives and help our planet.
??
I do have a couple of do-it-yourself cool ideas, but if they do-it themselves, who would buy them????
EN, please step in with the word of help to understan better! I am just about to spend $40 on my submissions to this search, can you give me a hand what you are exactly looking for?

Irina, you may get a quicker answer from EN if you post your question on the following thread: “Official Live Product Search FAQ”. That is the best place to post specific LPS questions as EN tends to watch those more closely.
BTW, that’s a very good question and I’ll be watching for the answer too!

Ivanna,
If you hit the link below by Phillip, it will take you to Yahoo’s Green site and you can see some examples of submissions. This helped me. Kind of.
Best,

My submission isn’t there and I’m still at G-3. I’m getting kind of worried. And even if I do make it don’t the people who have had their ideas on longer have an advantage?
Oh well, there is always wal mart or ASOTV.

Phillip, read all the FAQ’s listed with this search and it should answer your questions. Just because an idea is listed on Yahoo and gets a lot of votes, doesn’t necessarily mean that it is patentable or will even pass R&D. All the ideas still have to go through EN’s evaluation process, so I wouldn’t really worry about how long your idea is on there or even whether it shows up at all or not.
Keep this in mind: a GOOD idea will go much farther than a popular BAD idea.
Good luck!

Right now, they are letting you post an invention for the contest for free. It is paid for by one of Yahoo’s sponsor companies. I think you have to go to the Yahoo Gallery site ( the address listed by Phillip [thanks Phillip])

My idea just went to the next step (G3?) I think thats what it is. I am new to the whole EN stuff, and don’t quite have all the lingo down and what and where all the stuff can be found. It is listed on the Yahoo! Green website and available for voting.
This is my first time (I’m an invention virgin) not just on EN but in general and I am pretty stoked, to see one of my idea’s up somewhere. I have a whole diary of inventions that I have come up with over the years and never pursued any of them until now.

The whole Yahoo site thing is and interesting ponderment.
As a serious inventor, I am shy about sharing my in development ideas , even in the filtered and edited way Yahoo is doing it. I might have a good kernel of an idea, when someone else hears it they might be able to add just the thing that makes the idea better. If we submit to the same LPS then they will do better than me.
On the other hand, if the real goal is to help the planet, then collaboration is the best thing to do.
I have submitted two ideas to Yahoo, but did not allow either to be posted on Yahoo’s Green site. I guess I want to save the planet, but get paid for it as well.

If I understand this correctly, the ideas shown on Yahoo can be voted on to see which ones are most popular. However, every idea still has to go through EN’s evaluation process. If the idea isn’t protectible or doesn’t pass R&D, it isn’t going to make it to the finalist stage, no matter how popular it is.
So, I’ll trust my ideas to EN’s evaluation system and not subject them to a Yahoo popularity contest.

I have 2-G3s. Remember Julie, they are not stuck, but only taking a deep breath so they can sprint to the G8(GATE) :) I guess they are moving whatever is the priority in regard to the presentation dates. It appears that would be ASOTV right now.

They are working at EN this morning. I just checked my board and had all green G3’s. Then 5 minutes late a R4 for one of my 4 Yahoo ideas.

Jan, you would only see your idea on the yahoo site if you opted to show it there. Whether you elected to show your ideas on Yahoo or not, EN will review it just the same. No need to worry.
Matt, I am glad you have more than one idea in. Sorry about the R4.

Only one entry in. It went G4 a day or two ago. Level five seems to be where I drop out but I am keeping my fingers crossed. This is a great outlet for creative energy. Even if I never get chosen I love the website and looking at other people’s posts. Good luck to everyone! If I make it past 5 I’ll let you know!

Way to go Julie…..Yahoo!!!!!
I can’t find it now, but isn’t the presentation for this supposed to be August 15? And it is being presented to many different companies right? I’m pretty sure that it was in the sponsor info with all the questions. I usually print a copy of the search info for reference because once the deadline passes, that info seems to be gone.
Anyone know?

Hi Carol, I just looked over what I printed out and couldn’t find any presentation date but I do remember Marla writing that she was going to post the dates on all the LPS’s as soon as she knew.
But, I did find the info. about them presenting to many different companies: we just don’t know who they are.
