Can the EN Team Recommend an Injection Molder? - Matt?

Hi EN Team. Can you recommend a couple of good, inexpensive plastic injection molding companies? I have a few in mind, but I would like to see who other pros are using.

I need to do competitive pricing on a couple hundred thousand custom bottle caps.
Preferably located in the USA.
Preferably able to work with HDPE.
Preferably able to fulfill 100k pieces.
Preferably short lead times (about 6 weeks or less).

I appreciate any help. Thanks!

Rafael…I did alot of research on plastics manufacturing because my next invention needs many plastic parts.

I like Texas for manufacturing, I think it is the cheapest. The two manufacturers I like are Blackwell Plastics in Houston, TX. they claim to be one of the pioneers that started plastic injection.

The other is Cypress Industries in Austin, TX. They have a number of plastic injection machines. They manufacture in Texas and have operations in China but they said there is not much difference in price because of automation.

Just a thought…Blackwell does alot of small parts like that including little plastic stuff McDonalds so they know how to handle volume.

You do live in NJ…right? There’s lots in NJ too…I have connections through a well known plastics engineer.

Thanks Ron!
I live in NY. I’ve dealt with a few plastics co’s. But its usually on the recommendation of a vendor, and under tight time constraints. On this (potential) project, I have the luxury of time; so I would like to compare prices/quality between the ones I know, those recommended by the vendor, and those recommended by EN Team and EN members.

I’ll look up your recommendations on the internet and check them out.

Again, thanks!

Good…glad I might be able to help. I spent time with those companies, so it’s not like I heard about them in a conversation over coffee.

Sounds like you’re a better fit for rapid prototyping. Here’s info on injection molding.

Daniel,

Is there anyone who TricorBraun has not bought out? ugh

They bought out our guy in Denver, and then the service got so bad, we switched to another company. We figured it was because we are a super small mom and pop company, and they fired our rep from post merger restructuring.

We are a color concentrate manufacturer in NC, IL and China. We can possibly provide you with colors/matches and our lab can recommend some of our molders for you to contact.

Rafael, you could try protomold, they do small jobs with much potential and they are quite reasonably priced. Otherwise you could try http://www.mfg.com. mfg.com lets you put your rfq on the site and companies bid on it, that way you can get a number of quotes to compare.

Nicole, injection molding is one of the most common ways to make plastic parts. I think you are referring to CAD, computer aided design. with CAD I can send the file to a manufacturer in a format which lets them use it to make a part, as well as create 3D images of the part.
