Hi Delores,

Wiki fire retardant material names:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fire-retar…

Other things I found.

http://www.arasafety.com/products/fire-resistan…
“environmentally friendly”

http://www.firefree.com/
“Firefree Coatings offers non-toxic, fire resistant and fire retardant intumescent coatings which are applied like paint…”

Below is the the link were i found the above sites.

http://isearch.igive.com/search.cfm?st=WEB&q=en…

All I ask is for you to take a few moments to look at the search engine I used (www.igive.com) an consider it as an alternative to google. It’s a great site. Your searches help raise money for the non-profit(s) of your choice.
I live in Media, PA, the “America’s First Fair Trade Town”, my searches have helped raise money for the “America’s First Fair Trade Town Committee”. See link below.

Pretty cool!

What’s the catch? Where does the money come from, and will it cost me anything?

There’s no catch: it’s free for you, and free for your cause. Our service is made possible by advertiser dollars. When you use iSearchiGive, those advertising dollars benefit your favorite cause.

Your designated cause receives exactly $0.02 per qualified search at iSearchiGive. No hidden fees, no vague percentages – just a blissfully simple way to raise money for a good cause.

Disclaimer: I am not, in any way shape or form affiliated with igive.com or iSearchiGive. My only interest is in spreading the word about organizations that are doing positive things to benefit mankind and our planet. :)

Delores
Several questions, what type of material, what type of purpose? are you looking for cloth material, treatments, or are you looking for coatings? there are many sources for materials but you should narrow it down to the type of material you are looking for it will make the search easier.

Delores this is not a lot of info to work on. How heat and fire resistant do you need it to be? Have you researched ceramic fiber cloth? Depending on what you are going to use it for the fibers can be a problem. These fabrics are fire resistant from 550C to 1050C for Fahrenheit I usually double those figures so it would be approximately 1000 o F to 2000 o F.

the best place to start would be thomas net http://www.thomasnet.com/prodsearch.html?cov=NA… this should get you in the right direction. there are many materials and coatings out there so they would depend on the function. if it is a mat would this be like a floor mat or small welcome mat, is it going to be subject to moving, bending, washing, exposed to weather. all of these may affect what material you might use. another source is http://www.globalsources.com/ they may be able to help and you can submit a request to many companies at once, just make sure you have room in your email as I used it for bamboo and got about a hundred emails the next day..lol. Good source. Will check around and see if there are other sources as well.

I believe you do, but I use them often. I would try thomasnet first though. globalsource you get a lot of answers from chinese companies and the language barrier is enormous, I have gotten replies from companies who don’t sell what I am looking for, or do not understand at all. but they are still a good source.
