Hi Toni, My name is Charlene and I am new to Edison Nation. I’ve been trying to read up on everything and figure out how this works. I’ve had many ideas for kitchen products but I don’t know how to go about anything. I did enter one of my ideas in the Lifetime Brands contest. I just don’t have any idea what else to do. I know how I feel about a product by being a mom and it will simplify my life, but how do you get that across to others that don’t understand? Sometimes I feel that I am at a loss.

Hi Charlene, Welcome to EN. I think we have all felt like
you feel when we first started in this crazy world of
inventors. There are many people on here who are willing
to help each other. If you have a specific question, just
throw it out there and someone will answer it for you.
The one contest you entered, what is your dashboard G on?
G1 – 2- 3???
It will get easier as you go on Charlene, I promise.

Keep reading the back threads on this forum to get to know
some folks on here and check out Roger Brown’s site. He has
some great stuff on his websites and home page.

Hope this helps Charlene.

Hi Toni,

Thank you for providing this kitchen Manufacturing list. I invented a kitchen gadget, so I will definitely be putting this list to good use. By the way, I finally received some good news from EE the other day. AeroLeash has been redesigned to meet the buyer’s specifications, which means EE will present it back to PetSmart to see if they are interested. Hopefully, they will be impressed and put it on their store shelves. I also must thank you and Holly because you two sent me very supportive E-mails when I was feeling a little discouraged last month. You are terrific Toni! Thank you again.

I have a patent pending for a kitchen product and am looking for someone to manufacture it. It’s simple and I have had many people tell me this is a product they would buy. Can you help me?

Thanks,

Sue, are you wanting to have it manufactured and you build a business around it or license it and collect royalties?

To Roger Brown – Please email me at grandmasue6@optonline.net with a phone number so I can call you. I’m not good with the computer so it’s easier for me to talk. I don’t understand the differences of what you asked.
Thanks, Sue Selfridge

Sue, I am answering your question here so others can see the answer and I am emailing you also. I don’t give my phone number out as a rule unless we have worked together for a while online. My reason for that is the amount of calls I used to get and the large amount that would call late at night and at 2AM. Even doing email is getting to be a full time job. To give you an example I have received and responded to 34 emails in two days from the same person. This does not include the 68 other emails I got from other individuals. I responded to those emails and have had close to 40 of them ask additional questions.
Another reason I prefer email is it forces the Inventor to think more about their question since they have to write them out. I also believe it helps the Inventor work on their pitch and prompts me to ask them questions they need to clarify before they approach a company.

Sue, when I asked " Sue, are you wanting to have it manufactured and you build a business around it or license it and collect royalties?"

I am asking are you wanting to find a manufacturer to do work for hire and build your product, you receive it and it is up to you to sell and market it?

Or are you wanting to approach a company and say here is my idea, take it, make it, you sell it, and send me a royalty check based on the sales?

I hope that helps.

Tania, thank you for this list. It is enormously helpful. Thank you Toni also for your list. I have a “little gadget” that I have been toying with, and this has just pushed me off the couch to get on with it.

Another place you can go when you have an invention or product you need to get manufactured is http://www.buildoembetter.com – they can help with some product design and will help you all the way through the process. They help with marketing and other ways that new products can benefit, even some design and technical aspects. Good luck inventors, hope this helps you as much as it did me!

Oxo.com is very open to submissions on kitchen products, I have mine in at this time. Contact Katherine Sass she will talk you through their process and they do want a professional presentation and she will tell you all that they accept. It goes through 3 departments so it takes 4-6 weeks and sooner if they are not interested. Call their corporate office at 212-242-3333. They accept video, portfolio describing your invention and pictures so they are way more open to what you can give them for evaluation. Smart company.

Jokari was awesome and got back to me within 3 days (product development manager) and emailed me personally the really liked the product had something similar 5 years ago that they presented it to their retailers and the retailers said that they would be more accepting if OXO or Kitchen Aide presented it as they have more power in this industry and more shelf space! Good luck!
