Hello EN Community…
Forgive me if there is any active thread for recommended reading, but I took the time to search and came up short… I just wanted to contribute with some high praise for a fantastic book I picked up this week: Manufacturing Processes for Design Professionals by Rob Thompson
…a fantastic resource aimed at designers, but fitting for any curious and inventive mind who wishes to learn more about current manufacturing methods.
I’ve only begun to dig into it but it seems like an incredible resource — 500 pages / 5.5 pounds of fantastic color illustrations and photos explaining over 70 modern manufacturing techniques in depth. (without getting overly technical)

Rainer… Greg.. your very welcome!
It’s a very visual book, and I’m having a tough time putting it down. Descriptions are brief but to the point — touching on costs, cycle times, design considerations, and many descriptions include real world case studies.
A recent idea submission of mine required cutting out decorative detail to a ‘deep-drawn’ metal bowl shape, but I was short on confidence and knowledge about how it could be done.
…but I just read about how they punch out details in non-flat metal shapes such as the Alessi colanders or Rexite’s ‘Cribbio Basket’ (both case studies) I love this book!
…I should say that I’m also a huge fan of the show ‘How It’s Made’

Cool, thanks Pete, can’t wait to get it. I’ve used websites and “Process, Materials, and Measurements” by Daniel F. Cuffaro http://www.amazon.com/Process-Materials-Measure...
Sounds like this will be a better addition to ye olde bookshelf.
