Hello. I am a first time inventor, looking to begin my prototype/ manufacturer search.
I am having the hardest time finding a manufacturers that produce plastic baby nursing bottles.
My goal is to perhaps land a manufacturing deal where I can trade manufacturing services for a percentage of my patent. Is this possible??
Also, are there any immediate questions or pitfalls I should be aware of from the gate???
Thanks.

Leonard and Alice, I must comment on Alice’s statement “If you came up with the idea, then you are the only one who can get a patent on the idea.”
If you came up with the idea and didn’t protect it, in any way, you are NOT the only person who can get a patent. In fact, that is why Phillip and Frank made their comments.
Good luck to you….

Hi Leonard,
EvenFlo is actively seeking ideas! www.Evenflo.com
Good luck and like Phillip said; I hope you patented this already!

Leonard,
Do you have a patent on this? If not you need to take down that video and change your avatar if you want to keep your idea protected. How long has the video been up? I believe that is cosidered public disclosure of the idea and may limit your ability to patent your idea. It started the 1 year clock a ticking to file. You have 1 year to file for a provisional patent before your idea becomes public domain and anyone can patent it.
So, while none of us are looking…
EVERYONE TURN YOUR HEADS
you should go ahead and take that video down, change your avatar and rush to the patent office before someone else that watched your video or is on these forums does.
Man I hope you patented this already.

Thanks Alilce, Gerard, Catherine, and Kamala for the awesome advice. Adding you guy to my Engineering journal.
@Gerard: I have tried the Thomas Registry but it seem as I cant find an actual nursing bottle manufacturer. Any way I could find out whose manufacturing for the big boys (Gerber, Evenflo, Playtex, etc…)???
And Yes, I have two prototypes that I include in my pics and my youtube video: The Binky Bottle

Hi leaonard, have you tried the Thomas Register, Thomasnet.com? Plenty of manufacturers there. Have you been able to make a prototype of your own with off the shelf products? Having something to show a manufacturer besides a picture helps a great deal when having prototypes made.
Hope this helps.

Hi Leonard,
If you came up with the idea, then you are the only one who can get a patent on the idea. However, you may find a manufacturer who would be willing to license the patent from you – they pay you to have the right to use your idea. You can also assign the patent right to someone else (like a manufacturer). When you do that, you do not owe the patent anymore.
I would recommend to read up some books about it. I like Nolo books best about patenting, licensing, etc. There is a lot to learn. Good luck! …and contrats on having a great idea. :D

Hi Leonard, I was given great advice when I was also looking for a manufacturer. I went through Global Sources. If you go on their website you will see that they rate all different types of manufacturers all over the world including China. They have photos of their factories available for your viewing and they also check their financials to make sure they are a legit company. It is a free service to you, so all you have to do is contact a few companies to get quotes for mfg. your product. I found a great printer overseas from Global Sources. Good Luck to you!

Also check the Blog tab, there’s lots of good articles on everything “invention”. Just keep reading, between the blogs and forums you will get knowledge from experienced inventors.

Thanks! Point well taken. I’ll eliminate those words from my approach right now! Thanks…

Leonard – Anything is possible. You just need to find someone who would be willing to strike the deal you’re looking for. As to whether or not it’s likely, that’s an entirely different story.
The best thing you can do is educate yourself. When you meet with a manufacturer, the meeting will quickly go south if the first few words out of your mouth are, “I am a first time inventor and don’t know where to start.”
Edison Nation is an excellent resource for you to ask questions. A few people here may also be able to recommend some excellent publications for you to read.
