Portable solar chargers manufacturers ???

I have developed a new type of portable solar charger for laptops and small electronics. I did a “looks like” prototype, now I need to estimate manufacturing cost. However I still wonder who to call for this information. Do I need to call consumer electronics manufactures or distributors will also do. Is it appropriate to call to China factories although I was advised not to bother with China. Is there any other place where I can obtain this information, since when I start contacting potential licensees this will be probably one of the first question they will need me to answer them.

Thanks a lot

I see this solar powered battery charger on Suntekstore, but are there any other better options? Like waterproof or made more specifically for our IncS with micro-usb.

@ Ryan Brown. Well my prototype is actually a “looks like”. It is not working. maybe I should call it just a model. It is made of cardboard. I have in mind what materials to be used to produce it ( the solar cells, and plastic and cables ).

@ Randy Edwards . Yes I checked Thomasnet they really have a good database of companies. Will be useful.

I also think of Globalsources. When I googled solar charger manufactures" Globalsources came at the first results.
But i have one question that bothers me. Will be there be significant differences in prices if the manufacturer is Chinese or USA. And what I think is yes. However what would be the advantages and disadvantages of producing the product in China.?

Call all your manufacturers for the parts you used to build the prototype and ask for pricing and production times for 10,000 parts. Do this will all of the suppliers and then add in the manufacturing cost and you should have a semi accurate number to work with to build 10,000 portable solar power systems.

What I meant was that you can go to ebay and find the people selling similar things from China. They usually are the manufacturers. You can also go to Alibaba.com and find a manufacture too. You email them and send them a photo of what you want and they will give you a price that will be fob=freight on board. That’s usually to the west coast. They usually only sell in full containers, but sometimes half containers or less.

Thanks for the quick response Jeff, but I was asking more specifically how can I figure out the wholesale price for 10 000 pieces for example.
Sorry I had to include the term wholesale.

Well I have an improvement on a design and a little on the functionality. The retail price will not have to exceed that one of the first most similar to mine, which is about a $100. But I know the licensee company will want to know the wholesale price, eventually if it is going to be licensed.

Anyway thanks for the replay

If you go on ebay and search solar charger, you’ll see some there that are from China. Just go price low to high and find the most reasonable. I don’t know if yours is different than what they have out there, but just look for one that could be easily changed to what your looking for. I also know Quirky has one out that’s called Ray that sticks to the window.
