Warning labels

As I am working on having my product manufactured, I need to decide what (if any) warning label to put on my product. I can’t say what the product is yet, but I can say that it has a drawstring and a strap to be worn over the shoulder. It is not intended for children, but can be used for children. I don’t see any time of big dangers here, but whenever there is a strap and a drawstring, there is a possibility of strangulation. I haven’t seen any warning labels on shoulder bags that have drawstrings and straps.

Do you guys know of any regulations about this sort of things? What do you think a warning label should say? Thank you!

Alice, I’ve never seen one on them. But there are so many things out there with dangerous parts—-like a Monopoly game. That would probably say "Contains small parts that are a choking hazard, and not to be used by children under 4….or something like that.

And I know that Garbage bags say something like—-not a toy…could cause suffocation. So, I think there are just some obvious warnings on things.
I would just go around Target and look at similiar products and see what kind of warning they have.

Candy can be a choking hazard, so can balloons….the dry cleaner’s bags are a danger…….so is the styrofoam peanuts used in packing….so are all the cleaning products. The list is endless—-but they are all there on the market. So, I think it’s an easy problem to solve. Good luck!!!

Chuck, I don’t know – do they?

Sir Edward :D LOL, that’s hilarious. “Warning. To be used by or under supervision of a competent adult”.

Sir Edward – that Caution warning label is very appropos – wonder if it makes the person, who is about to commit suicide, think twice.

Alice, I just went to ask.com and typed in both warning labels and warning label symbols: tons of stuff available and I bet that some of the label makers even tell you when it is required.

What about jump ropes, laundry bags, back packs, do they need a warning label?

Why don’t you search ‘warning labels’ on every product which might be similar to yours. Then I would search every Federal law (supercedes any state law) for any regulations related to similar products. And I would search for any children’s products which MIGHT relate to yours, and so on. You really need to do your homework.

My pillowcase falls under a Federal children’s sleepwear regulation: I found that out by doing a lot of searching and reading – hours and hours. None of this is easy but it really is our own responsibility to be up-to-date on our products.

Strangulation? Hmmmm – that might be an issue.
