We've stalled out after prototyping the product

This product is the brain child of my wife. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJrc-3_Rld8 I just helped design and build it. I have patenting experience as a pro’se on my first invention, and we are doing the hole process again with this idea, (lots of work). Contacting maufactures is not working very well. I’ll request quotes from the companys based on my IGS. and DFX drawing files, no responce. This product will be all plastic I’ve sent limited info to smaller mold shops. Maybe there’s bigger and better company’s that I need to look at.
Thanks in advance

So your opening my mind up to other possibilities. As you can tell, I’m not keeping this in the dark.
I use to be a traditional very guarded inventor, but not now. I’m ready to take chances. If this one fails I’ll move on to the next one. I did looked them up “ChinaForge.com” I’ll do some research on them, thank you Don. I’ve read alot of posts in the last week on this form. Wow! you people know your stuff.

Hi Todd, Try calling American Plastic Molding Corporation. The owner of the company (Floyd Coates) wrote an article for Inventors Digest in the June 2009 edition. The article was called “Reality Check”. Mr Coates says he has sympathy for inventors and knows how tough it is to make it. No website or address was given, so you will have to do some research. Please share your experience with us here if you have any luck with Mr Coates. Thanks – Dond

Hi Dond, (cool name)
I looked the article up and read it. What a tough cookie that Mr Coates. It looks like he’s just tyring to point out the obvious to the oblivious, and in the beginning I certainly fell in that uninformed category. Still trying to claw my way out of that group. Well, let the research begin.
Thanks Dond

Hi Todd,

Inventors Digest usually has a classified ad for an agent who handles jobs in Asia.

I watched the UTube video and wonder if there is some other ‘item’ your cutter could be used for. Maybe something that isn’t even food: maybe there is something in crafts which requires repetitive cutting which could be accomplished with your invention.

Good luck.

Hi Julie,
Nice! We never thought outside the food cutting box, thank you Julie. I’m not to surprised though, this is one of the biggest group of inventors I’ve ever seen. Asia’s is now on the list.

Hi Todd,

I was just browsing through ‘People and Groups’ and clicked on by State. Went to Arizona and then Tucson and saw that one of the members seems to have a connection with manufacturing in China. I am a veteran and determined to keep my product made in the USA but certainly understand why someone else would go off-shore.

Hi again Julie,
Found them, thank you. The only problem I have with China is, I “heard” they expect half down, then the rest before it ships (understandable), but if the China company goes out of buisness at any point, there’s no legal recourse for us to recoop any losses, that’s the way I understand it. Probably only here say, and may never happen anyway, but I would not want to be the first. I’m going to do alot of research. This group/forum is an incredible find for me, thanks everyone for being so helpful and motivating.

Hi Todd,

I would suggest becoming a Gold Member and get Inventors Digest magazine free. Once you are a subscriber you can go online and into the archives. I mention this only because for quite a few issues they have been following a group of women and the different stages they are in and the problems they have had: one was with off-shore manufacturing. Great magazine. Besides, there are many other benefits to becoming a Gold Member.

No problem.
Email me off-line if you decide you want to go off-shore and I’ll put you in touch with some great guys in China.

Hi Todd

I just got back from China about a week ago. I am a mechanical engineer and I worked for a manufacturing/design company there. I have experience with Chinese manufacturers. The best way to ensure you don’t get taken for a ride is to research a few suitable factories and when you find one you like start forging a good ‘relationship’ with them. In doing so they will be much more willing to help you in lots of ways.

I had a look at your video. Your product looks like it has a lot of potential! If you’re planning on having it made of all plastic parts China is a really good place to get it done at the cheapest price – you probably already know this. However, it is difficult to find a compatible factory to work with when you have no contacts to start with. I suggest you take a look at www.getyourstuffmadeinchina.com

Getyourstuffmadeinchina.com is set up to help people get quotes without a middle man. If you want to have a go yourself there is a BOM template you can fill out which you can use to get quotes from Chinese suppliers. The BOM template is set up so with Chinese translation which aims to eliminate communication difficulties. If you need more help send the webmaster a message and they are always happy to help out. They also provide other useful services.

If you would like to know more message me. I would be happy to share my experiences dealing with Chinese suppliers/manufactures.

Good luck

Sarah

Todd, one other thing just occurred to me, perhaps you should send it to some of the hot dog companies perhaps they could use it for promotional item. Another option would be some of the kitchen gadget companies they might want to get their hands on it with a licensing deal.
