I found this site from working on Quirky. EN seems more professional and better protection for your idea but I don’t really understand how if works from idea to shelf. With Quirky, it’s pretty obvious. They take your basic idea and redesign it to what sells and then manufacture and sell it.
What does EN do? I sort of understand how they shop your ideas to retailers but when it says you get an upfront $2500 royalty do you have to use that money to actually make the product and take it to market or does that retailer do that?

EN is in the business of finding ideas that others will license. No one knows what will sell so it is always a long shot. But losing sleep over who may steal your idea is the tough part. Keep your idea in your head and don’t share it with people until you are ready to do something with it. You will know when that is. Things will line up + you should have some cash to spend because everyone will have there hand out. EN will do it all for free but is a long shot to get anything going with them. IF you have time and money and believe in your idea you can go farther, faster. |

I partake in a few sites (of which EN is my first choice!!). I usually give EN my ideas first, if they don’t make the cut, I take it to other sites if it makes sense…all companies are very different…when you expose your ideas that starts the clock on any PPA to be filed with your product idea so I would just watch putting your ideas out into public…it’s not bad if you get chosen on public sites, but if not, you threw out the idea with potential for companies to take your as well…always know what your risks are… |

Welcome, Jenni. EN is not like Q at all. EN conducts searches and if your idea, even if written on a cocktail napkin, fits into the requirements of a search, then you pay $25 and enter it and then you wait and wait. It is always good to do a lot of homework first – checking to see if your idea really is original, etc. IF your idea gets chosen (the latest victory is Betsy Kaufman’s Eggies), then EN or the company which requested the search, takes over and you are out of it – except for royalties which also might take a long time. Maybe you should read some of Betsy’s posts where she has explained the process she went through. Use that little green search button and put in her name. Good luck. |
