Holiday Garage Door Magnets

We could use your help on a product of ours called Fun Stix. They are holiday garge door magnets. More than 90% of U.S. garage doors are polymer-coated steel and rarely decorated. Please check out our website www.funstix.net and tell us what you think of this new product. Thanks for your feedback. Your help is greatly appreciated. John

I couldn’t see myself using them, but here are a few thoughts.

I think if they were bigger it would be better. Driveways are usually AT LEAST two car lengths long. It would be hard to distinguish some of the magnets and details from that distance, let alone farther.

I’d also make them more cartoony. The art is ok, but looks almost clip-art-ish.

I think its a good idea if you hit on the right consumer.

Good Luck.

John,

I echo Jason’s comments. I was also going to describe the art as clip-art-ish. My decor for Christmas is more on the traditional elegant side (white lights, lots of greenery, fruit and berries), so although I like the idea of decorating the garage door, the art wouldn’t really work for me. I think you might lose some people for that reason. I think it’s a great idea though. Perhaps you could also have some larger letter magnets that are of more fancy font? I would use something like that.

One other first impression is that I would rather the art worked together better to create a scene. Some of it seems a little disjointed. The halloween magnets come closest to creating a scene, except the spider is almost as large as the house. I would buy it if everything worked together better to create a scene. I agree with Jason about the scale of it too.

And lastly, I’m not so sure your name does you justice. When I heard it, I couldn’t imagine what it would be. Maybe a better name would incorporate somehow that it’s a garage door magnet for the holidays.

You’re right. The garagae door has been overlooked. So I do like the overall idea and I wish you great success!

I also think that there are people with metal house doors that, if they use these, they might use them for that purpose too.

I’m not sure if I missed it, but is there a way to see larger images of the magnets? I think you should have that feature on the site as well.

Also, are the pics on there real pics? They look like a picture of the same garage door with the magnets photoshopped on. I think real pictures, including close ups, would be better. As someone who would buy these, I’m going to want to see them in real life…pluse, what about glow in the dark ones?

Also, a good idea is ones with the address on it. I hate trying to find house numbers when looking for a house I haven’t been to. Having bold big lettes with the house number and maybe name would be cool. Could do ones that you can personalize with last name and address like the plaques they sell. If you did them more stylish and high end looking, you could grab a larger demigraphic.

I agree with all the other replies but want to ask if the magnet material is less expensive than the gel material. I love those gel characters you peel off a piece of plastic and they just grab ANY surface. (at least I think it is any surface)

Plus, the gel stuff is transparent and looks great on windows: you could cover the wide range of uses.

Good luck….

I’ve worked with magnet and magnetic materials for about 20 years now. I’ve seen various sets of these type of magnets over the years. There are many that go well beyond the simple ones I see you are working on right now. Here’s some links that can help give you the ideas of what is out there already.

I didn’t realise how many people/companies do this. Going to be a tough market to compete with looking at some of the competitors. You may have them beat on price, but I’d gladly pay more for something that I like the looks of better.

Hi John,

I was surprised to see you here! I had visited your website before I read your post. I tried to order similar magnets from a magazine and they were SOLD OUT. When I searched the internet, I liked your site the best. I think your art work is fine. My neighborhood is filled with blown up tigers, snowmen, and other decorations like penguins for Christmas. Your product is perfect! I know it will delight all the children in the neighborhood.

I look forward to ordering your magnets. Please don’t tell me you’re SOLD OUT too!!!

I wish you the best!

Joyce,

Our goal was to keep our designs simple and fun. For example, Halloween is not about blood and scary monsters. We decided to provide our customers with something different. In time we believe we may provide more detail (i.e.,Norman Rockwell) but for now, we are happy with the path we have chosen. Thanks again for your compliments. We continue to seek advise. All are welcome to add their suggestions. Ideas are valuable. We do not ignore any of the ideas people send us. John www.funstix.net

John,

You did it just like the magazines- SOLD OUT!!!!!!

I still have two sets in my cart. I had to do some thinking about the cost of shipping – almost $12.00!

Is my cart still good, or is everything gone?

Joyce,

Sorry, Christmas Fun Pack 2 sold out faster than we expected. Holy Christmas Fun Pack 1 and Christmas Fun Pack 1 are still available. Believe it or not… people are still buying Halloween and Thanksgiving every day through December. We are not sure why people do this but we think it has something to do with giving these items as Christmas “gag” gifts. It’s possible they are giving them as “real” gifts knowing people can use these year after year. Either way, we still have plenty for sale. Sorry for any inconvenience.

John,

You may find this strange, but contact Maui Toys http://www.mauitoys.com They actually do Christmas and Halloween decorations, but don’t see them on their toy website.

Mr. Brown,

I’m confused. I visited www.mauitoys.com but find no reference to Christmas and Halloween decorations like ours. Are you saying they sell magnetic garage door decorations? How do you know they sell these items? Have you seen them in stores with their name on the packaging?

John, Maui toys does not publicize that they do Christmas and Halloween decorations as a side business. I know they do these items because I have talked directly with the New Product Supervisor. When I talk with any company I always ask if they produce any other products that I may not be aware of that I can send in submissions for review. You would be amazed how many companies have other lines that don’t match their more public line.
I will not list a company on here unless I have personally contacted them. you can others I have listed here http://www.edisonnation.com/forums/market-resea...
