My humble marketing research

So, just like every other part of my product developement, my lack of excess funds has forced me to be creative. The best part of this is that I have not made any large costly mistakes, plenty of mistakes, just ones that fit in my budget…lol

I have also, completely surprised myself at every turn of this latest part of my product developement journey. The “booth” vendor experience has been simply the best way to go out there and find out what potential buyers think of the product and it’s pricing. I would highly recomend it to anyone who really wants to get wonderful feed back for between 50 – 150 per weekend.

I get out from behind the booth and really talk to people, obviously to sell but not hard sell. To make a potential friend and also to tell them my whole company story.

I find that the more I can feel comfortable telling personal/company/mfg tidbits, the more I and my product is remembered.

In fact, yesterday I went overboard with props. I was conducting what I call, “a pricing pressure test”, I went up another 25% on my price. Two weeks ago I had went up 30% and sold more than I had the weekend before. I had decided to test it again before I hit the retailers.

Well, the result yesterday was awsome. The new price turned off sales like a light switch. Before I went back the the selling price that worked, I moved my AirTrike up right next to the traffic flow, I normally use it at the back of my booth. So then what I got was tons of people that wanted to talk about my prop but it didn’t sell any more overpriced merchandise…lol

I was also over dressed for a flea market, not on purpose. I did move my price back down and at least made, 5 times minimum quota anyhow (booth cost + gas).

So I want to hear your tricks of seat of the pants marketing reasearch before I really start chasing retail spots.

thanks, off to the markets I go,,,,again

Do you have anyone that is demonstrating the product near your booth? One trick I have seen is people using the product outside a venue and then when they see your booth inside are interested in learning more. The people using your product outside need to be the target audience you are seeking so the buyers know who you are targeting.
