Why I like Edison Nation best.

I just think it is time for this topic. In fact, I will be submitting an article to Inventors Digest on this matter.

I am an unbiased opinion simply because I feel that I am good enough at what I do to accomplish what I want on my own. I don’t need anyone to kiss up to and if I wanted publicity I would go hang out on the Discovery Channel’s forum. I’ll call it like it is.

You can submit an idea to EN with no protection and trust them. Why? Because one bad report gets out and their whole show gets called off and everyone gets sent home. That idea can be sketched on a napkin almost. You CANNOT do that with anyone in the world!

I’ve met piles and piles of people that call themselves licensing agents or of the type that get a product to a manufacturer for a percentage. Well, who do they know? They are just one person. Edison Nation’s “Rolodex” contains such an AMAZING array of the who’s who in manufacturing PLUS the largest retail buyers! These contacts are everything, and it will be hard or impossible to amass the contacts they have built with their vast team. I even called the Thomas Edison foundation here in NJ to attend the inventors show I am organizing and they said Edison Nation is a partner of theirs….THE THOMAS EDISON PEOPLE!

You will also need a publicist for your invention. Who else has their own publicist on the payroll ready to promote YOU and build a legend out of you if they can because after all…you and Edison Nation become 50-50 partners on your invention….which could be an idea that popped into your head during one shower, scribbled on a napkin in 10 minutes…and then could possibly end up an infomercial making you a superstar inventor.

Who else can do that for you? Have you ever met their staff? I have…a WHOLE BIG TEAM of professionals seasoned in this field who most bring their own very valuable “Rolodex”

Hey look…watching you all is like a sport to me…THAT IS IT…I don’t care how you succeed, I just want to see some winners and watch the excitement. If I thought another invention company was best I would be hanging there.

Now…let’s prove what I am saying here. I don’t like people talking junk. Talk is too easy. I have a manufacturer…right in the middle of the hottest U.S. city…Houston. If I gave my invention to Edison Nation they would have an infomercial already and in Home Depot and all over. How do I know???? OK…here’s how.

Almost two years ago a Home Depot buyer CAME TO EDISON NATION’ S CASTING CALL…do you know a licensing agent or invention promoter or whatever where the biggest of buyers comes to them??? There were a few other big retailer buyers there too looking at EVERYONE’S invention of they made the first round of cuts…and let me tell ya….some inventions were just CRAZY…yet those people got respect and a day of entertainment and support.

Plus Edison Nation has the one and only invention magazine. They will promote you in there too. They put me in there a few times even though I never submitted anything. They just like me and they too just want to see winners. Do you know how important those publications are to me? To my family? To my daughter forever more?

Last…I’ve been in this field for almost a quarter century. I’ve STUDIED this field intensely for years AND was “hands on” actively participating in this field. I once sat down with a pretty big toy company, Shelcore Toys with the top 4 executives at their roundtable. They loved my toy idea. I made a GIANT mistake and blurted out something that cost me 2% in royalties deducted from a typical 5% and also my invention needed one last design engineering solution. I was also invited to submit to Mattel but never did…too inexperienced I thought…thought they would “trample” right over me.

If I went with Edison Nation and split the 50% profit with them, right there I wouldn’t have screwed myself out of 2% and that would almost cover Edison Nation’s cut….from ONE simple quick mistake…how I blurted out Mattel pays 3% royalties…like an idiot….because I was too nervous and not thinking straight with 8 of the sharpest eyes on me at that meeting. Edison Nation would not have done that. They would have also brought a more complete invention to the table….I really do believe. I had a safety flaw for young children that could have been solved easily with a little more effort. Know what I got in the end? NOTHING…they canceled the deal before it could be fully written. That was the 3rd big deal with a big company I messed up…all on my own. The others with Anheiser-Bush and 3M.

The lesson here is I can’t beat the total collective of Edison Nation and I can’t think of ANYONE that can!!! Emery Cat could have gone somewhere else….and ended up in a mom and pop 2 or 3 store chain pet shop for 5 years until it got knocked off. Ain’t nobody knocking it off now!!! Cause it’s established at the top!!!! Good luck knockoff’s catching it now!

The reason I did not go with Edison Nation is because I have a historic breakthrough which I want the credit of proving but if I get in trouble with my health, Edison Nation are the ones I will look to take over everything so my daughter can get the rewards. She’ll take a 50-50 split with Edison Nation…WHAT A DEAL…she’ll go to the mailbox and then to the bank and Edison Nation WILL BREAK THEIR ASSES MAKING IT ALL HAPPEN….AND CAN BE TRUSTED…because they either have a good reputation…OR THEY HAVE NOTHING!!!

My bet is on Edison Nation. Maybe it’s a personal thing…after 25 years of intense study in this field and active in business in the field….it’s just my VERY strong opinion.

Good luck to anyone who needs more convincing that this. Very well put. One of these days I would like to buy you a cold drink (or 2, or 3), and then just sit back and listen.

In other words, your insight is appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to share it.

Cheers,
Rich

Like Ron, I’ve been blessed with success and understand the unique opportunity Edison Nation provides. You don’t see any of the experienced inventors / business people complaining about Edison Nation on the forums. I’m a huge EN fan. EN gives me opportunities to move outside my normal area of expertise in product development and inventing to pursue ideas I would NEVER have the time to take to market myself.

I’ve personally taken several products to market over the last ten years. I believe EN gives us extraordinary opportunities.

Getting an audience of decision-makers to pitch your product to is not easy. These companies are in business to make money – if we submit a moneymaking product, they’ll pick it up if it’s a good fit.

EN has the ability to put our products in front the decision-makers of legitimate thriving companies. The only thing better is taking your product all the way through the process yourself. It is very rewarding to work hard and profit from your products.

Good luck!

Thank you Rich for always showing me appreciation…and I am sure the Edison Nation people appreciate your appreciation and respect to those who deserve. There is just so much bull….and people with “pipe dreams” sometimes. Edison Nation just has the “hammer” right now. They have the leverage.

Let’s take one important thing with selling a product that NOBODY here even considers…except me as I studied intensely…shelf space and product display. There is a WHOLESCIENCE” to this.

The more leverage you have as a company like Edison Nation or a manufacturer like 3M the better shelf space you get. If you or I alone try to get shelf space we just might get the bottom shelf on the “bad end” of a “dead” aisle where we wouldn’t catch consumers, we’d catch dust, not sell the minimum amount of pieces and then get kicked out of the store with that product forever. We could probably forget about the store ever letting us place free standing cardboard displays in the front of any aisle..or any special treatment like that. Edison Nation may have better leverage to get better shelf space which really means EVERYTHING!

Edison Nation will also be respected by a manufacturer when they say they think they have a good prospect/product/invention…heck…they look at thousands of inventions and pick the best. Any idiot would respect them as a good pool/resource for new products, and if not right now because of the DEPRESSION…then when the economy comes back a little.

There’s alot to this game that people don’t realize. You have to read a pile of entrepreneur and inventor books to learn how this game works as well as try to bring some products to market and learn on your own some too before you can really grasp all you need to know to succeed…unless you are a VERY lucky “one in a million”…the rest of us will WORK HARD to see our inventions succeed.

I’ve met a bunch of these guys that will help license your invention. They have brought a few products to market…or maybe know a couple of buyers in a couple retailers….yeah yeah yeah…and they say they have the answer to aaaaallllll the inventor’s dreams….worry no more Mr.Inventor…they will take you to the inventor’s promised land…..shiny clean shelf in a big retailer…with custom lighting directly overhead too. See…I’ve heard it all…but honestly…I’ve never seen a company in this field that can help the inventor as much as Edison Nation can. I saw and met the Edison Nation team. A bunch of VERY SERIOUS PROFESSIONAL people.

Again, my manufacturer sells to Georgia-Pacific toilet paper manufacturing plant. They said they don’t know what is going on right now, their toilet paper sales have dropped way down. So how can we expect anyone to do great selling inventions? I will say this though…since Edison Nation SURPRISED ME lasting through the DEPRESSION….WATCH OUT….expect them to be the ones you wanna latch on with. Stick with them when the times are a little tough and I think you might come up with a good enough invention idea. Sometimes it takes a few ideas. It took me a number of ideas until I got one that could really “fly”
