Just watched trailer. Looks brutal, but interesting. I didn’t go so far as to research how far along your idea/invention must be.

It’s like American Idol Inventor, with five Simons! It’d be great to see someone here get on that show, but they’d have to be STRONG. Maybe Sir Edward?

It’s a U.S. version of the UK’s Dragon’s Den: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dragonsden/ … And while you’re there, be sure to check out Top Gear: http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/ . It has nothing to do with inventing but it’s very innovative.

Hi from AbsolutelyNew, Inc. Several weeks ago, the Show’s staff contacted us asking that we consider introducing them to our inventor clients. Within this context, I spoke with Show producer Bill Gaudsmith and learned a few additional data-points of note:

- The show is being produced by Mark Burnett Productions (the people behind Survivor), for Fall 2009 airing on ABC-TV. The network is apparently quite keen on the show – it moved the air date forward from original timing for Spring 2010.
- Casting is already underway in order to enable filming this summer (July and August).
- The casting requirements were still being finalized when Bill and I spoke. Among the requirements he mentioned as being highly probable, which every inventor will obviously want to weigh against the benefits of the Show’s exposure: participants can choose not to accept financing from the “sharks” (ie: if you don’t like the strings attached to the money); however, participants must agree to share 2% of net revenues on all future sales. This 2% is apparently to be divided between Mark Burnett Productions, ABC, and parent company Disney.

Happy inventing!

Shark tank seems to be more like the american inventor tv show and base on what i have seen, it is inventors VS investors resulting in a big return for the investor.

I applied for “Shark Tank” about a week ago. No word yet but 2% sure beats 10% to 50% and more some of these companies charge. I had one want 90% and I get 10% when the damn product is manufacture ready and moulds are cut.

I want to see who the “Sharks” are they pick Trump, Mophet, or some ex-ENRON CEO’s. Maybe Oppera W. will have some extra time? This invention business is the dirtiest business I’ve ever been in, no wonder everything is done in house!!!!!!

Shark Tank is not just about inventions. It is also about business ventures. You can tell because at least one of the Sharks is a Real Estate person.

yes i saw last nights show, and they let the guy with the big hat and funny cards on the show and i cant even get an e-mail back from them, saying either yes or ne lol.

i think the lady with the stress book did the right thing, and the baseter lady did good, i still cant belive how rude so of the sharks are, and that they will take 100% of someones hard work, the ppl that are there because they need help, because most of use dont have the contacts or the money to get to the right ppl.

i wish there was a show out there who really was out to help the little guy

but ill keep watching and hopeing ill get on lol

wish they had a show to pitch movie and tv ideas……

anyway thanks for reading

The reason they have terrible ideas along with the good ideas is for entertainment purposes. I was on the golf channel’s invention show and it was incredible who they let on and, more importantly, how they edited the show later.

Congratulations Marian, you are where many of us here would like to be. Please share a little about the steps you took to reach this stage after you had the idea. Did you make a prototype? or get a patent or PPA? How long have you been working on this idea? Did you have the product produced in limited quanities? were you selling the product before you got on the show? Please share whatever you can. Thanks – Dond

I have a utility patent pending and a non working prototype. I’ve been working on this idea for about 5 years now. Every year I have tried to do something significant to move this process a little closer to my goal. I’ve been to the E.R.A. Trade show in Vegas a couple of years ago and that was an amazing experience. I believe it prepared me for “Shark Tank”

Yes I had a booth with signs, pamphlets, business cards and a loop running on my lap top demonstrating the C.A.D.

Marian i think your idea will make millions and when i look back at the shark tank show, you did not do your homework yet you succeeded because you had a brand instead which makes me believe that you are truly blessed.

Hi Marian, I saw your segment and wanted to congratulate you on your success. I have a couple of kitchen products on the market and when I saw your idea I knew it had market potential. Glad to see they saw the same potential. Since the show aired have they moved forward with getting your prototype to work? Did they give you any idea when they plan to launch the product?
Now that you have this one underway have they asked you that favorite question " Do you have anythiing else?"

Marian, It’s inspiring to see that you didn’t give up and were rewarded greatly for it! I saw you on the show; you did great! So much of the time people think that really good things won’t ever happen to them, so they give up. Ironically, I learned that all good things are possible through an extremely difficult journey with my son. Joshua was severely disabled and terminally ill for all his 20 years of life; 98% of kids with full Trisomy 18 die by age 2, he was the oldest boy who’s ever lived with this rare defect. Therefore, I learned that anything is possible…never give up! You are blessed and you are making the possibilities a little more relatable to Everyday Edisons :)

Hi Joseph,

I thought her flip flops were great, she is just not willing to “change” to get her products out. I think she is stuck on the happiness thing. Sometimes as inventors and product developers we need to change the direction in which we are going if we are not making progress.
I think if she changed her target consumer for those flip flops and changed the words to target teens she would have a gold mine.
I completely understand why she feels the need to inspire and change the world but it is just like the sharks said she will never get anywhere unless she is willing to make changes to succeed, and she is not willing.

I would bet that is exactly what kills lots of great ideas. Take your emotions out and look at the big picture, then and only then will you have an open mind.

Too many people think with their hearts when they are in this crazy business, and too many poeple loss their life savings and more chasing dreams.

It is business and it is just a product, not something you risk your family and life savings over. That is how we all need to think, leave your emotions out, and your mind open to make smart decisions to lead you to success:-)

I have to agree with you, I actually had the opportunity to meet with her and she is selling happiness, She does have a great concept . like others in this in business,…. offers do not come about easy. You do have to be flexible and release EGO. Meaning that….. release your beautiful IDEA . and …move on

Interesting show, especially Cowboy Jack. He said he made millions and lost them that is why he was on the show. He had to claim bankrupcty. That was not a great way to entice investors. The two guys with the software will make millions if the Aetna deal goes through.
I like the show better than American Inventor. I would like to see them do a follow up on those that got deals and where things ended up.

I agree Roger, it would give all inventors and innovators a bigger ray of hope, knowing their dreams could become a reality. I also would love to see the continuation of their concepts. Good show, even though I am terrible at guessing who might or might not get the offers from the sharks!
