Hello,

The following announcement was posted under Official Q&A but I want to make sure that everyone has had a chance to read it.

The Edison Nation forums have become a place of heated debate in issues ranging from climate change to the value of a patent. Several inventors have contacted me with concerns regarding the atmosphere, and others are finding it more difficult as of late to find information on the topic they came here for in the first place, inventing.

In order to keep the forums open and active I ask that you please respect our rules and keep the forums a professional and friendly place. Thanks so much everyone for your cooperation :)

FORUM RULES:

Before posting, please read the following rules:

Be respectful of others.
No profanity.
No spamming. Do not use the forums to promote your invention services. If you have invented a product, it is OK to promote that.
Do not post requests for technical support. Visit http://support.edisonnation.com for support requests.
Do not publish any telephone numbers, email addresses or physical addresses without permission of their owner.
Do not threaten or harass others.
Do not post content that is of sexual or violent nature or promotes racism.
Do not post images or other content that you do not own the rights to.
If one of your posts is removed, don’t complain about it. We’ll remove that, too.
Enforcement: Our team of community moderators.

We have recruited a team of community moderators to enforce the forum rules. They will rotate every month or so and their moderator status will not be publicized. The rotation and non-publication of their status is designed to keep any moderator from controlling the direction of the forums beyond enforcement of the rules. Every time a moderator removes a post, we are notified and they will be held accountable for their actions if the post is not in clear violation of the rules.

I don’t know why forums which have nothing to do with inventors or inventing, i.e., Global Warming, Moon Landings, etc., should even be included on EN’s site: there are many other sites / blogs where these subjects are discussed.

Maybe a maximum word or character count could be ‘installed’ in the ‘post reply’ boxes: that might help.

I’m going to hang in a little longer to see if anything improves. Good luck, EN.

Yes while we’re at getting rid of all the stuff that has nothing to do with inventing, could we also get rid of all the friendly chit chat, personal stories, TV show and movie critiques. Just being sarcastic or does that have to go too?

I think we can have almost any topic here as long as the rules Marla / Matt have posted are followed. The biggest problem lately has been the personal attacks on people and their views. If rule number one is followed, most of the other rules will take care of themselves. The “off inventing” threads help us get to know one another and also pass the time while we wait for our dashboards to move. This really is a great group of people, we just need to remember we’re different from one another in many ways.

Okay Colonel and Ralf: guess I can just not read (or participate in) those forums – that might be better than banning them. I stand humbled and corrected.

5 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is what I heard Louis Foreman and Michael Cable and investors put into this whole operation AND brought the much loved magazine Inventors Digest back from THE DEAD. ALL THIS for the inventor community across the United States and NOT prejudice against ANYONE letting all have a possible chance at making a million bucks or more, getting on TV or in their magazine with their invention, hanging out on this forum…and the education this whole operation offers the inventor.

Moreover, many ideas submitted are QUITE crude and far from a commercial ready product. all this for a lousy $25 administrative cost to get in the running?

BLESS LOUIS FOREMAN AND EDISON NATION…cause I’ll tell ya…I got 5 million bucks in my hand and I ain’t putting it up for your half completed upside down ideas which is probably mostly what they get…and they WON’T rip you off and get you legal protection with a patent!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL FOR 25 bucks!!!!!!!!!

How many of you would put up 5 million dollars to make us all inventing stars when many just don’t feel like working so hard so they leave all the hard work to Edison Nation. They did WONDERS re-designing the Emery Cat to get it ready…let me tell ya.

This is why I get upset when I see parasites trying to lure people off this forum to their forum or lure people off here to their own invention services after EN put up all the work and money to build this place.

THIS IS A MATTER OF SIMPLE ETHICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

If anybody here owned a pizza store….spent money on advertising, years of sweat equity building the reputation and trying to make the best food…if I came in your pizza store giving out coupons TO YOUR CUSTOMERS ON YOUR PROPERTY for cheaper food at my pizza store, and telling your customers your food is bad…come over to my place…what would you do to me? Shoot me? Have me arrested? Sue me? Could you imagine if I did that to your pizza store?

Thank you Louis Foreman, EN, Matt, Inventors Digest, Mike Drummond, Michael Cable, Marla and the rest of your crew for what you are GENEROUSLY doing for the entire inventing community…and I can get in on the profits…..for a LOUSY 25 BUCKS…yet people will still complain and take shots at EN…well guess what…they are TOXIC TO THE ENTIRE INVENTING COMMUNITY!

Who am I. I am nobody to EN. What I am is just an inventor promoting the sake of inventing in the United States. I am loyal to NO ONE…I stand alone and say what I wish and believe is true.

I did the best thing i could do was just to recuse myself from anymore of the debate topics i got too worked up too easily, too many varying views and we all think we are right so no one will ever see it the other way, those types of topics in here aren’t a good fit I welcome the rules but at the same time think it’s sad we need them we are adults and should all know better.

I agree with just about all that Ron said, however, th EN investment team did not start this service out of “generosity”, I don’t think I’m going out on a limb by presuming that they started it as an opportunity to make money like any other profit-making venture. In my opinion the reiteration of the rules is far overdue. Thanks Marla

Ya what Ron said but that’s a different topic, not this topic. He’s talking about Mark, that’s his topic. Was the “report this post” button not working all this time? Are we as “adults” going to ban all topics that cause disagreement? Sure I believe in responsible freedom and the penalty for abuse of this freedom should be loss of freedom. Sure personal attacks are wrong but there were funny little battles going on in one small corner of the forum which I think the combattants were enjoying in some twisted way. What we’re talking about here is the uninvolved people looking on in horror, how they felt. Yes we’re tracking mud all over someone else’s nice clean forum (sure was clean when I first got here). Even though the onlookers (who could just ignore it) have every right to be on guard against deterioration of the entire forum, it’s not the end of the world yet. It’s a simple matter of either respect or reporting and deleting abuse. Case closed no?

P.S. I sure do agree with Ron’s outlook on loyalty, couldn’t agree more. I just find it ironic that he doesn’t like disloyalty in others. I’m just saying to get some heated debate goin again.

Don’t get what you said Ralf at the end. It was more than one person trying to “rip it up here” PMing people and bad mouthing the system here and offering their services undercutting EN and some of the people who are believers in the people and system here.

Haven’t you noticed all the brand new posters with no friends asking controversial questions about EN???? They know an awful lot about EN but claim first day here with no friends…and theu know invention talk quite well. They were not who they said they were…just looking to rip it up here.

All of a sudden four invention service soliciting people came through here trying to make allies and PMing people and as I heard a few people who frequent here paid money to some of these people as they take over or influence their inventions now. I just think that is so low. I could never do that. Mark was the LEAST of the disagreement. Mark gas contributed much to this place in the past and will always be respected. The other 3 guys that I heard of were just snakes to say it best. There may have been more.

Many here get solicited outside of here after their information from here gets looked up. Hey…it’s a free world, all seems fair in business sometimes…but beware who PMs you soliciting invention services. I got contacted twice in the past couple weeks. That is why I am not posting my website after my posts lately.

Hey…I respect EN. I can “play” here, advertise my invention, they covered me and my invention 3 times in Inventors Digest all FOR FREE…and have offered me other support all when they have almost no chance of making money off my invention unless I die, then I trust them to run and make some profits for my daughter and whatever they are supposed to get. These guys here are GOOD people. They are my friends…your friends..treat them WELL AND WATCH THEIR BACKS…they would watch yours if you had an invention in their control.

I didn’t know about this situation. I thought you expressed some disappointment in people’s disloyalty to EN who has helped them. I see it as if you’re loyal to the truth you have to be disloyal to everything else, your friends, your family, even yourself and especially your beliefs if they prove to be untrue. Loyalty is a very noble character flaw because it’s weak. It takes a lot more strength to call things out and suffer the consequences of ostracism as a result. Maybe that’s all Mark is doing but I wasn’t aware of the motivations of the others. The inventor IS at the bottom of the food chain and he’s ALWAYS got to be on guard against predators.

Still…after all this there are licensing/invention promotion companies trying to slyly contact members here.

Honestly…how good can they really be if they have to snake around here and slither real quietly under EN’s legs to steal away customers. If they are any good they should be able to make their own stand somewhere and advertise their business.

I know they are always welcome to take out ads in Inventors Digest. That is the arena where all can advertise fairly.

Just BE CAREFUL…don’t get taken!

Ron,

I’m not sure who you are referring to; I have yet to find anyone quite like EN, though there are other sites that charge you a fee (much higher) send you a written review, and if they like it they offer to rep it.

I guess I was a EN basher few months ago because I wanted EN statistics and I didn’t have any friends at the time. Some of us just have our guards up; as inventors we assume everyone is out to rip us off. The nice thing is that there have been a lot of positive testimonials from people supporting EN, that has helped me lower my guard a little more.

Juan….I just finished my rough draft for what I think is a SUPERB article for Inventors Digest. Mike the editor is reviewing now. This article will answer everyone’s question why they really don’t want feedback from EN or anyone else for that matter. If you have done adequate research on your idea then ask yourself, you are the expert for your invention.

If you get rejected just let it be, walk away. You don’t want wrong or hurtful untruthful evaluations sometimes. I have received some ridiculous really stupid reasons for rejection and it’s usually because they didn’t research the concept and took some wild off the top of their head assumption.

I show this according to invention history. It may seem practically all big historic inventions have a long record of rejections..and I prove that you just never know…so what kind of feedback do you want if nobody really knows…just do the research so you know best. Trust me…it’s the best way to success.

You really believe in your idea…well then move on after rejection to find someone who really believes in it too. Trust me, somewhere there is someone that believes in your idea like you do…law of probabilities.

Information like this Juan is only here at EN. Good choice to stick around. Many people can share very important info for us all to learn from. I’m learning.
