Hello! New guy Here!

Hello Forum!

I’m sorry if this is the wrong place but I couldn’t find a new members area. I am new to all this, but actually not really that new when it comes to inventing, just too slow in putting my ideas into motion.

I’m very glad to find a group of people who are just like me. And this website really looks like it makes the average person like me able to get my ideas moving quickly. I have had a few ideas in the past and simply sat on them too long and to watch them appear on the market later with great frustration. To me, inventing really isn’t that difficult. Every time I see a problem I see an invention, it’s that simple.

I once had the idea of the doggy door alongside the sliding glass door. After investigating it I found out it was already invented and for sale at Pet Smart, Home Depot and Lowes. So, I bought it …LOL

I just found out that I am losing my day job the end of March. I am a Mechanical Designer/3D CAD guru by trade. I work for Sony Ericsson (Cell phones) in Raleigh NC. My wife does not work right now because she is studying to be a nurse and will graduate this fall of 2010. So, I am currently job searching for something new. But in my spare time I decided to pursue my most current idea/invention. And luckily for me I already have 3D CAD Models and drawings describing it. I decided to take the plunge and submit it to Lambert & Lambert. I am waiting to hear what they have to say. I also consulted a local engineering /invention and prototype company and they were impressed and said it would sell. I just can’t afford to make a prototype. They showed support depending on how much it would cost to make it. I have also shown it to a total of four people (signing a NDA) and all have said it’s a great idea and surprised it hasn’t been invented yet. According to my research, similar things have patented but none have been marketed and mine is much simpler.

Anyway, thanks for reading my introduction. And if you need any help with 3D CAD models contact me and maybe I can help you out. My avatar (the Darth Vader head) is a 3D model example I did for fun for my two boys (9 &10). I look forward to meeting you all and submitting more ideas to the Live Product searches.

Any suggestions and support will be accepted.

Best Regards,
Bman

Hello Bman,

Welcome to EN. I think you will fit in here just fine. EN will be a great outlet for you and your ideas.
Here is a link to the official introduction thread:
http://www.edisonnation.com/forums/expert-q-and...

I am sorry you are losing your job. The only thing I can say to encourage you is that new doors will open. Sometimes events like this can turn out to be the best thing in the long run. You have a skill set that will allow you to do freelance or contract work for a while. The company I worked for closed it’s doors over a year ago and so far it has been a blessing… mostly. It was slow go, but I found my way and now work for myself. I don’t think I could ever go back now.

Take care and I wish you the best with your ideas!
Chris

Welcome aboard Chris. Both EN the company and EN the community are good people. If you have good ideas this is the place to bring them. Find a search you have an idea for and give it a shot and see what happens.

I find that the challenge of coming up with the ideas is worth the submission fee even if it doesn’t get chosen right off the bat. I’m a graphic designer 3D modeler and tech writer. If you ever need anyone to run ideas by I’d be glad to take a look for you, just send me your NDA.

I think you are going to like it here. You know those good people I’m talking about…the Colonel is one of them. He’s a great guy very supportive and active on the site. He’s always the first to pop in with words of encouragement. Hope to see you around the site.

Welcome Brian, many good people here and a great outlet for all things inventing. good luck with the job search. your wife shouldnt have far to look for a job when she graduates as I am a nurse working for the military on Fort Drum and though it can burn you out at times, she should never be out of work as nurses are always in demand.

Kevin, You know about the Search button, don’t you? Saves a lot of time if you are searching for Non-disclosure agreements or patents or prototypes, etc. The search button is at the top of every forum on the right side – in case you aren’t already using it.

Welcome….

You are welcome. That is what is so great about the EN forums: most of us want everyone to succeed – its not competitive and is usually helpful. Every once in a while there is a curmudgeon – not to be confused with ‘grinch’.

I am the Queen of rationalization; therefore, I feel if you make it to G7 and then get a red X, you are a winner. And the longer you hold at G7, the better.

I would say they don’t try and hold you back, but you need to be informed in what you are doing or you can get in debt very quick. Use this website and its search feature to find answers to a lot of your questions. Welcome aboard.

Example I do work for a big company and offer them a new product out of loyalty they poo poo it and mess me about. I now sell this to a distributor and they sell this new product to the company’s competitors. I gave them sole distribution rights and they will be sold to more of their competitors . My first two sales were for 80,000 units. Product is sold in packets and bulk i think sometimes that being Mr X is better than saying this is my product. I think jealousy can creep in to a decision making with some peaple.

Hi David, Taking your example further, did you design the product while you were at work? Did you use any of their equipment (parts, computer, paper, etc.) If you did, the company might have recourse – even though they were certainly short-sighted.

(my strange sense of humor is creeping in so please excuse; however, does your tagline name refer to any invention you have created? Perhaps something like a chastity belt for the bottom?) I’m sorry – just couldn’t help myself. ;-)

Okay, David – you’re British so I know you have a sense of humor and I can’t imagine that you haven’t pronounced your tagline phonetically.

Brian, I had almost suggested San Francisco and Hollywood but thought that might be going too far; however, prisons are a perfect fit (so to speak)…..

David, If you are interested in Star Trek, use the search button above and put in the words ‘star trek’ – amazing how many results. I also know there are many EN members who list "star trek innovations’ as part of their interests.

Well, I have some good news and bad news… The good news is that my job has been extented until the end of May.

The bad news is Lambert & Lambert Inc. decided not to take on my invention. They gave me a very honest opinion and I went with them before I found this website. I’m not giving up yet. I decided to submit it here at under the ASOTV and I have another submitted with Christmas Tree shops at G3. Wish me luck!

Hey Brian I am also a new inventor similar story concerning invention Ideas that a few years later I have seen in stores and the city’s infrastructure its strange how you can be inventing all your life and not realize that your an inventor.
Thanks for your offer to help with 3D CAD models perhaps you could point a beginner in the right direction as far as basic instruction.
Some of my ideas are very expensive and increasingly complex a 3D CAD model may help with presentation.
Welcome Brian its nice to meet like minded individuals like you and all of ENs Members.
