I was contacted by the Executive Producer of the ABC’s the “Shark Tank” this evening and before I call her back tomorrow I wanted to see if anyone had any good advice for me?
I just submitted three inventions to EN and they’re all are on G3.
Can I use one of these three inventions?
They sounded interested in all three of them.
**Is it possible to remove an invention from a EN product search??
If so how??
Thanks, Aaron

Thought you might want to brainstorm a bit on the Shark Tank audition process since I’ve been through some of it. If you’re interested, you’ll have to accept my friend request first!

Mark’s got a good point, venture capitalists are looking and willing to invest large amounts and expect substantial paybecks in established companies with the people already in place. Angel investors are more often looked upon as one that will invest in and idea and an individual to get them going. Also with a significant reward due to the risk factor. I did meet with a local company a few weeks ago. They called back this morning and expressed an interest. The three top executives agreed that I have something worth discussing further. Who knew, I’ve travelled thousands upon thousands of miles in the past five years, this company (although not ideal (very good though) for my products, is only 5 minutes down the road, prices their products in line with my objectives, and has been around for about 80 years. Not a bad fit if we work it out and can work together.

Jerry, VC stands for Venture Capitalist. They are people or companies with money that invest in small businesses. They seldom invest in startups. With this $25 mil. venture fund, EN may be considered a VC.
The Sharks are VCs.

Wow, sounds fun..I would agree just make sure your lawyer reads what you are signing..and a VC is a Venture Capitalist (investor)! Good luck on the show!

Hi Scott!
For us ignorant ones….what is a VC? :)
- I talked with the creators of Powerdecal and made the rookie mistake of sharing with them an idea I had for their product. They are now using my suggestion. :/

I just met someone who is in the process of readying a website for an entrepenuer that will be on the show. Win or lose with the sharks will still drive a ton of traffic to his website, plus other VC if he isn’t picked up. The first time we met was today, neither of us knew the other. When she asked about my business, I mentioned the key product. She had heard of it! Actually knew the brand and the product. She wants to meet this week and (god willing) VC might get directed my way.

By any chance did you speak with Jennifer Salyers? She was the one who contacted me. I went through the audition process but didn’t make the final cut to travel to the left coast. I’m hoping to get another crack at them if and when my patent(s) ever issue. Best of luck to you!

ooh need to make a quick correction. The girl didn’t sign with both, she signed with one and didn’t know if she could legally try out for the other, she could, she did and the other show had interest in her too—still wasn’t me. It still is a good idea to talk to your lawyer a minute. Good luck, Aaron hope all goes in your favor.

Aaron,
If you are patent peding, and the audition is very soon, go audition. TV is a product in itself and is very fickle. I knew a girl who auditioned for both Shark Tank and Mom Inc. (or homemade millionaire) and they both wanted her; had her sign contracts and then NEITHER show used her(no, this was not me). Your worse case scenario is that while you audition, you go g7 on all 3 submissions AND Shark Tank wants you. I guess that’s the gamble…fun problem. I learned a lot when I tried out and I wouldn’t have changed it even though I didn’t make it despite having a contract with one of the shows; here is my advice on my blog from my experience http://www.clipcleany.com/blog/category/homemad... Make you sure you have the best-case-scenario for you!!!!Gor for it—I hope you do really well. Maybe you should chat with your lawyer too.

Aaron, I’m with Margaret. With that in mind, I would pick just one idea for Shark Tank, and keep the other two from public disclosure. Even if you do lose the ability to patent that one idea, it might be worth it given the 15 minutes of fame gained from an appearance on the show. I’ve seen people spin a career off of those 15 minutes.

Aaron,
I believe you can still leave your ideas active in the EN searches while pursuing this opportunity. But you would probably have to edit your. submissions to indicate public disclosure. If your ideas are not protected, public disclosure would start a one year clock. If you don’t file for protection by then, your invention will not be eligible for a patent. If you already have patent protection on them, I would keep a close eye on your dashboard. If it gets to stage 6 and things are looking promising with Shark Tank, I’d probably pull it out then. Leaving them active here may be a bit risky because you really never know how fast the dashboards will move. I guess for me it would depend on how much of a sure thing Shark Tank might be. Good luck!

Finally accidentally found where Shark Tank lives on the lineup just last Friday. Saw my first episode and watched the guy with the breath mint clips get lambasted, partially for bundling multiple products in one presentation.
It seems they like an item that speaks clearly to the highest possible payout with the deepest development story.

Aaron, Congratulations!! Just curious how this all came about? Im sure there are many here that would love to hear how this all unfolds (but not sure what non-disclosurers they make you sign). You can always pull submissions from EN up to G6 as Betsy pointed out, and (As I understand it) re-submit at a later date if you want. There are many posts on EN related to Shark Tank – even at least one poster who has been on the show before (Turbobaster lady??)

Aaron you can remove any submission all the way to G6. Only when you have a G7 is it locked in.
