I while back I spoke with a guy from the University of Connecticut he was a mechanical engineer. He was part of a program that assisted small businesses and student engineers in getting new products to market. He told me that inventing is difficult on many levels because it was easy for people to slightly tweak your ideas and rip them off and that various types of patents do various things and he went on and on. It made me understand that even if I had the best idea in the last hundred years it would be difficult at best to bring it into being. So if I invented a little spork type of one piece object that was a hit (nothing wrong with that), I could afford to have that engineered and maybe I could save up and hire a patent attorney and have the attorney submit my idea to the patent leg of the government. Then I could try to pitch the idea to various companies and who knows, maybe it would take off. If I had an idea that would cost $100,000 to have it built and patented because it is complex, I might as well just forget about it. So in essence the whole invention market is expensive and complex and full of risk. Then I come here and for a small fee EN takes on all of the issues I mentioned above and even affords me a chance to submit to multi-billion dollar companies. Even the guy from UCONN wanted me to pay several thousand dollars for my idea to be put in the program. At the end of the day this site is the best way to give yourself a chance at success in my opinion without going on a quest to pitch an idea and loosing a ton of money. People love to talk about how possible it is to do this thing on your own. As for me, I want an invention company like this representing my interests because they know the business and they know how to protect me from predacious scam artists in a world full of them. As a Security Director I have dealt with all kinds of theft and fraud issues. In that arena and the incident management arena I’m an expert. I even know how to deal with mass casualty incidents and have a protocol for every horrible event under the sun and I know how to document them. But in invention land, I might as well be a sheep surrounded by wolves without some form of representation. So I am all too happy to go fifty with EN and compete with the inventors here, it’s the best use of my time and money when it comes to inventing, period.

Thomas Edison said, “If there is a way to do it better … find it”. What better system is there than one like Edison Nation where we get to work with companies that actually come to us and ask us to help them ‘find it’? |

Jim, That sounds right but it was a while ago. My gut told me to back out of it. I found this site because one of my guys at work heard about it on the news. I checked it out and could tell right away that this EN model would just take off. I wanted in and I’m here for the duration. I can’t wait to see what the future holds :). Another great benefit is the fact that I can see the new search appear like an order being placed for an invention and try to fill it. I don’t see that anyplace else. I love the challenge of a search like CROWN that is hard to invent for and so many others. I may never win but at least I’ll be able to say I tried! I have no idea what everyone else is coming up with but I’m sure they are pretty good ideas. |

Darrel, are you referring to the Center for Science and Technology Commercialization Office (CSTC) at UConn? If not, check it out because it’s a good example of a University ’Technology Transfer Office". With such programs, students and faculty actually relinquish rights to intellectual property that was discovered or developed using university resources. Notice in this particular situation the university takes a third of the royalties, the inventor gets a third, and the other third is split between other entities. So if that mechanical engineer was referring to these university tech transfer offices that he has possibly dealt with in the past, then he is steering you correctly to EN! However, there are obviously instances where the tech offices do a lot of good for university inventors. Most have some sort of training for inventors to learn the basic ropes of inventing. But always remember whose best interests they are working for (not yours!) Einstein made it a point to keep his work as much to himself as possible because he knew if his ideas got out into the academic arena, they would no longer be his ideas! Besides, in his case everything he did was controversial and totally against the grain to say the least. |

Darrel, I agree. I was asked to speak at the Houston Inventor’s Group about Eggies. One guy asked if since Eggies was successful, would I do my next product by myself? I just blurted out, ‘Are you kidding? That would be like flushing all the money I make from Eggies down the toilet!’ |

Good call Betsy but I cant edit the title lol. I think that even if I was rich person I would still submitt my ideas here for the free representation offered by EN. It justs makes sense. EN calls this website an invention and it is. It solves the problems I listed in my original post. |

Darrel, you’re so right! I think another title for this topic could be ‘EN is for smart people’ ;-) If your product is chosen, you’ll never have to pay another penny other than your initial $25 dollar submission fee. Yep, I’m feeling pretty smart! Ha,ha. |

Great post Darrel! And that is exactly why I believe you will continue to see unprecedented growth here – resulting in new sponsor searches, increasing membership, and more resources for us to utilize….Edison Nation is rewriting the book…and when you look at the BIG PICTURE as you so very well relayed above….it really brings home the VALUE of this model…..I have a hunch……that EN will soon be a very well known name…..that things may be happening behind the scenes….that perhaps they are attracting the interest of some very big corporations…..that we may see this place really take off like nothing we have ever seen……….All I ask is that if a mega corporation comes a knocking on your door Louis, please make sure this place stays true to the original vision and commitment to the inventor for which it was founded- Thanks! |
