This inventor’s name is Mick and he is from Australia…are they all named Mick from over there or something? Anyway…nice guy that I talk to on www.youngentrepreneur.com Cool place over there…bunch of very hungry young up and coming stars and HIGHLY educated. I recommend all to frequent that forum.
Here is Mick’s invention. He said I could post it here http://www.jym.me/
I think being from Australia and wanting to crack the U.S. market I think Edison Nation would be the best place to start.
What do you think of the invention? Mick wants honest answers. I REALLY like his total product presentation and perfect production model prototype.
I have invited Mick to hang out here with us.

It looks like a neat concept, but I’m not sure how well it would sell. For me, it would need to DO something. This only seems to give a digital readout. Also, I’d like something that allowed more movement. I don’t see spending money for a static workout. I don’t mean to be negative…just trying to be honest.

I sort of thought similar but this may be good for a pro bodybuilder warming up before a show or to warm up with posing. You just never know what will sell out there. I do know from my years of lifting weights very seriously that any kind of muscle flexation can be considered exercise and can be beneficial. I also know flexing helps muscle bellies “peak” sometimes in a way that an actual resistance cannot do.

Yeah, it might be good for a niche market…but how many body builders are there out there warming up for a show? You’re right though, I’m no expert in this sort of product, so it might sell very well. However, I wouldn’t be a consumer for this particular product. It might be a neat ASOTV product.

There is a certain segment of the population (I’m in that group) that falls for every new exercise gadget. Frankly, I like the idea of getting feedback and measuring muscle progress. But would I spend $100 if I could figure out how to do the same exercises without a machine? Probably not . . .
Still, I could see this as an ASOTV product advertised in the typical way – shapely models and muscle-ly men demonstrating the Jym – you know, the ones who never break a sweat and get those perfect bodies working out only 20 minutes/week. Also smiling, health-looking seniors in wheelchairs.
Maybe pair this product with another product that does a different type of exercise – something that involves range of motion. The $100 price would be a problem, but maybe do one of those three-easy-payments offers.
Bottom line is that there is always room for one more product that sells the promise of physical perfection. There was even room for the Spin Gym, had it been properly priced ($3.99).
Ron, maybe tell Mick to read the Spin Gym’s story. Not that I’m comparing the Jym to Riley’s gadget. But there are lessons in her story. Here one link:

Anyway, good luck to Mick!

Linda…I told Mick about the Spin Gym I’m holding back my opinion on this invention because you just never know and I don’t know if my perception is correct but I think this is better than the Spin Gym and I could get Mick in contact with Forbes Riley.

Whoa, Ron – I wasn’t comparing Mick’s product to the Spin Gym. The Spin Gym was a joke gadget Riley tried to sell with her personality and sex appeal. We’ve all seen that approach work, but in the Spin Gym’s case, it failed.
Riley may be a very nice person, but clearly her judgment was seriously flawed. Why would you want your buddy to contact her? I only mentioned her because of what her approach taught folks here on the forums. In contrast, Mick seems to have a serious product that could find a niche (in my not-to-be-trusted-novice opinion (;^)*
Then again, Riley may have learned from her errors, and might succeed in pitching the next blockbuster.
Sudden thought: Does Riley have a warehouse full of Spin Gyms? Maybe Mick could use them as an upsell: Folks, order a Jym, and get a Spin Gym absolutely free!!! Just pay S&H of $29.99!!!!
*But then my exercise room has a Bowflex (bought second hand, worth the money but don’t buy new, check Craig’s List), an elyptical stepper, a Nordic stationary bike, a Total Gym, a bunch of barbells, and a box full of bands and stretchy gadgets. I should be as fit as Riley. Am I? Uh, no . . . . hmmm, maybe because I don’t have an isometric thingy . . . . (;^)

Hmmm…? Or better yet, perhaps he and Riley could team up, integrating both spin & isometric exercise technologies as one product?! They wouldn’t even have to change the name…

Not to be critical, because I am not a fitness guru, but it seems like I could put a rope on both ends of a fish scale and pull. Wouldn’t that give me the pounds of pull I am exerting?
Lindax2, you made me look :)
Sir Ed, you know when that contraption gets to spinnin’, batteries are going to fly out and hit Riley in the head!

So true there Handi-Strapper. And of course I wish Mick the very best. Obviously, his invention is designed for exercise and a fish scale is not. His presentation is very good and classy. There probably is a good market for it here in the U.S. Look at Suzanne Summers and her Thigh Master. The same type of resistance could probably have been accomplished with a beach ball between the knees. It is all about the message, motivators and image. If the perceived benefits outweigh the cost, you probably will get a sale. Though Mick might struggle with sales at $100.

have any of you tried the SpinGym I love it, works better than you would have ever imagined and these reviews are from the UK where i first saw it
check out idealworld.tv
“This piece of equipment is ideal ; it is portable and definitely improves your general fitness.
By Dudleygirl from Dudley, West Midlands on January 31, 2010 (read all my reviews)
“I couldn’t wait to try out my SpinGym and immediately unpacked it and started to spin it around expecting to be able to use it straight away without reading the instructions or watching the DVD’s it came with. Oh! I thought this is useless, I’ll be sending this back. Well how WRONG was I! I eventually played the DVD and within minutes I had mastered the technique and BOY COULD YOU FEEL IT!! I can’t stop putting it down, (I can only manage a few minutes at a time at the moment) but continue to keep picking it up and using it throughout the day. You can really feel it working your upper body and core muscles especially as you move from one position to the next and I can’t wait to see the results I know I will achieve through regular use. I also love the portability of it, how I can pop it in my handbag and use it at work and will be able to take it on holiday too. Its one of the best pieces of fitness equipment I have purchased and this won’t be lying in the corner gathering dust, waiting for the next car Boot sale!! If you are considering purchasing a SpinGym, don’t hesitate, order it now and get toning, phew! I’ warning you, you will get warm and slightly breathless! Good Luck!”

Well Ron this is my opinion :)
Nice looking, compact and portable, interesting concept.
Web site is outstanding and user friendly did not find a short clip of unit in operation though.
I would give this as a gift to support someone interested in improving there physical well being
For me the price is an obstacle perhaps a lesser price would make it more attractive.
On a scale of 1 through10. I would give the product a 4 and the web site an 8.
Good fortune to you Mike

Ron, I agree with Alberto. I love the website. The design of the product is superb. I don’t know what his cost per unit is to make so I am not sure what he can do to lower the price and make it more attractive to the consumer.

I think it has a good chance in the Geriatric and physical therapy fields. These niche markets always need to measure strength without over doing it. The website and presentation are great.

It may be good for some niche markets but I wouldn’t buy it.
This looks like a tech’d up version of Charles Atlas’ “dynamic tension”.
I don’t see where you’re going to burn any calories with this, which a lot of people are looking to do when exercising.
I do free-weights and I don’t know a lot but what I sense is that there’s more to it than just exerting force; there’s the business of balancing and steadying the weights which this device would not provide. But again a real weight-lifter or gym-rat could probably comment more knowledgeably.
But my comments shouldn’t be taken too negatively; “For every action there is an equal and opposite criticism.”

This guy I met at an entrepreneur’s forum I really like. I tell them there all the time about the forum here and try to get people to frequent both as both types need each other.
This particular guy just stopped talking to everyone so not much good discussing his invention anymore. I originally did this to introduce someone new to the forum here.

Hi Guys,
It’s Mick here. Thanks alot for all the support/feedback and the criticism it’s all needed and is a great help. Thanks as well to Ron for posting it up here. Seems like a great website just unfortunately at the moment I have been so busy and a little snowed under. I will be sure to try and contribute a lot more to the site as Jym develops.
So far Jym is going really well, as mentioned above one of our problems is pricing. When selling to personal trainers and physio therapists/professionals they can’t believe how cheap the product is on the other hand for the general public it is a little expensive. What price do you guys think it is worth??
The other issue we have is people understanding the product this is mostly due to not having a video on our website which hopefully I will have one soon i just don’t want to jeopardise my website with a tacky video. Jym was never developed to be aimed at the general fitness market it is more aimed at the millions of people who can’t use your general fitness equipment people with arthritis/ disabilities recovering from surgery or an injury. We have already had great success with stroke patients and arthritis sufferers who usually have to use stretch bands or stress balls which personally I think is a little unfair for them.
And lastly one of the biggest issues is convincing people of the benefits of isometric/dynamic tension exercise. Jym basically is a modern version of Charles Atlas yet people still believe that your joints have to be moving for your muscles to exercise.
Anyway I would love to hear more suggestions on Jym and any criticism cause often people are too scared to say it to your face but you need to hear it.
Ah yeh before I go a quick word on Forbes Riley, I have contacted her and unlike a lot of people that would be in her position she has contacted me back and is very interested in the product. She seems like a wonderful person and a great resource to Inventions.
Have a good one, Thanks again.
Regards Mick

Hey Mike your very welcome, yea its been snowing allot here in Manhattan also cant wait for summer :)
As for the price perhaps a discount (avoid using the word discount) when buying two or more considering your target market i now believe that the price is right on target as hospitals or clinic chains may decide to purchase in bulk. (Nice Idea aah)
Oh perhaps you could share how or were you put together that great web site for Jym when i get to distribution and sales that may come in handy. Also you are so right about the video that’s the kind of thing that will make or break.
Continued good fortune

Hi,
Thanks for tips.
With my website Like most inventors I guess I had to do it on the cheap, so I probable did 90% of the work on it myself. Basically I paid a designer around $100 to design the outlook for the first page and I designed the rest of my pages based on that design and layout. The only other bit I couldnt do was the Ecommerce side of things this costed me about $400 to have developed. So for around $500 im pretty happy with my website. Now all I need is the video.
Any other advice on marketing ect I would love to hear it as this is where Im struggling at the moment. THanks guys
Mick
